One thing I love about Fools in April is that unlike other April Fools episodes where someone tries to get back at someone for a prank only to get called out on it, Squid getting called out feels justified. SpongeBob said he'll leave him alone when he sees that his prank hurt him, and he tries to keep that promise throughout the day. And the pranks he does pull on people are mostly just lame "made you look" pranks. So him making it so Squid admits he likes living in Bikini Bottom to everyone feels justified.
That's why i hated squidward in that ep so much. Like spongebob wasn't pranking him after he promised and yet squidward was still getting mad at him. Like geez 🙄 And like you said, squidward getting hated by everyone cuz of what he did to spongebob is justified.
I do love the ice cube gag in the drink. It’s not life threatening and the guy took it well. He got his cold drink anyways and SpongeBob got his laughs.
The Fools in April's episode sticks with me because it's almost as if Squidward understands that he is a sort of punching bag for the show: the quote "Why is it whenever I have fun it's wrong?" kinda makes me feel for Squidward a little bit
Squidward can get very meta. One time he said something to the effect of "why must everyone 11 minutes of my life be miserable," referring to the length of the average episode.
That’s only true in the later seasons. I think here he actually did hurt SpongeBob’s feelings till the latter decided to forgive him (after one final prank). The way Squidward looked around and winced at the aftermath of his prank suggested even he found the prank to be way too harsh in hindsight.
The thing with SpongeBob’s pranks is that they were silly and fun, Squidward’s prank was just cruel and it caused physical harm. Squidward deserved the reaction he got from others.
Oh! And of course, the "golden spatula" collectible from Battle for Bikini Bottom is from *this* episode. Of all the Spongebob items to be a "main collectible" they definitely made a great choice.
Is Mr. Krabs aware of it, that he not only almost lost his gambling money but also his frycook. And even if Neptun won he would have lost because if Spongebob couldn't be a frycook anymore the Krusty Krab would going out of business.
So great to see Patrick thinking so highly of Spongebob. Plus the whole quantity/quality thing is a good message. (If a bit ironic. What season is spongebob on now? I know we’ve reached double digits.)
Old woman: Excuse me young man do you know where the menu section is? Patrick: uuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhh Spongebob: The menu section? That's easy, it's over that way (pulls spatula from the grease) 🌩 uh oh. Old woman (with a man voice): HOLY SMOKES!
6:06 why did he deserve it? SpongeBob was playing harmless pranks which was a tradition to the holiday but squidward took it way too far and hurt the little guy. Physically and mentally
Because Spongebob is being even more obnoxious than usual. This is the same guy who invites himself into Squidward's house, thinking they are having fun, but he's just being a nuisance.
16:43 I cook burgers over a small kindlin fire just like that. mulberry, oak, maple... whatever is dry and pencil+ thickness, build a pile and throw on a couple thicker peices... once the flames die down you're 2 mins from the best burgers ever! 30 seconds each side twice for a cris-cross sear and you're done! perfect medium-well burger.
Funny thinking Patrick is always challenging Neptune and Flying Dutchman. Neptune here and in the movie: "he can do it in 9! 8! 7! 6!" Flying Dutchman in episode Shanghaied, "make it 5! 4! 3. Take it or leave it"
Just so you guys know, the continuity on the King/God of the sea is basically nonexistent. One episode it's Poseidon, next it's Neptune, and they never look or sound the same. Without delving into spoiler territory, I'ma just say that now is a pretty great time for the movie. It technically came out later, but it genuinely doesn't matter.
6:38 “Why is it whenever I’m having fun, it’s wrong?” Kinda sympathize with Squidward with the line, and it sucks more because while that prank was a bit too extreme and - to a greater extent - part of SpongeBob’s plan, it’s like the show is telling Squidward can’t have any genuine fun on HIS terms.
You said it yourself though: Squidward’s prank was extreme. All of SpongeBob’s pranks were at best harmless, at worst annoying. Squidward was intentionally trying to hurt if not embarrass SpongeBob. Squidward’s “genuine fun” was him being a complete jackass.
The fact that actually looking at the aftermath of his “prank” actually made Squidward cringe when the moment settled says a lot. His prank was out of line and he knew it. Also I don’t think SpongeBob was faking being hurt by the prank. He decided to forgive him after seeing his earnest attempts to apologize… once he’d gotten that revenge prank anyway. And honestly getting him to admit in front of everyone that he likes living with them isn’t exactly a bad thing
I’m definitely not on Squidward’s side in the April Fools episode. See, the difference between his prank and all of SpongeBob’s pranks was that SpongeBob’s pranks were all fairly lighthearted and didn’t hurt anybody. None of his pranks even had the capacity to hurt someone’s feelings, except maybe the one at the start with Gary and the one with the artist for Squidward, but even then, he basically immediately said “I’m kidding”, whereas Squidward’s prank was borderline assault.
I like how the Neptune episode is an allegory of how well-cooked quality burgers made at local restaurants or at home, are always better then mass produce fast food burgers from corporate businesses like McDonalds
I miss the days when SpongeBob and shows like that would teach lessons like the Neptune’s spatula episode. It taught that in life, it is quality over quantity. A lesson a lot of people in life need to be re-taught
did anyone else notice Neptune put potatoes on his burgers? I was always confused about that as a kid. The only potatoes I want on my patties are fries!! 🤤
Team Spongebob for sure. All of SpongeBob's pranks were so tame in comparison. There are moments where I am Team Squidward, but this is not one of those moments lol
Cutting your ingredients with wild (dirty)swordfish seems unsanitary, King Neptune isn't just a lousy cook, he's also reckless. Also lots of good food is mostly made by people who are 'commoners' it's not always Culinary school stuff.
Honestly, I feel like the prank SpongeBob pulled on Squidward at the very end of the episode it like ten times worse than the prank that he pulled on SpongeBob in the middle. Bro got the whole town together to make Squidward feel like he had ruined his reputation and his relationship with SpongeBob. He was ridden with guilt for the whole second half of that episode, even to the point where he saw visions of his mom dissaproving him. He feels so bad that he even spilled his deepest secret to SpongeBob in hopes that he would forgive him, only to find out that none of it was real and that the deep secret that he just painstakingly revealed to SpongeBob in secrecy was just revealed to the whole entire town. This causes him to imedealy deny this claim and then disassociate mentally from the situation, running away. So, essentially, SpongeBob embarreses Squidward in front of the whole town, puts him through loads of emotional turmoil, makes him reveal his dearest secret in front of the whole town, and deeply traumatizes him. Smh my head.
Me was thinking Neptune was chosen by Poseidon, he wanted someone to watch out the seas for him. So Neptune like the king for Poseidon. Im sure he doesnt look like that anyway. XD
I always say this on the first part that squidward went way to far. Spongebob is annoying at times but his jokes were harmless. He litraly swung him across the whole building and caused physical harm. He needed to apologise.
Of course, everything is much easier when you have magic powers. I have a question for English speakers. What is the difference between joke and prank?
Quality refers to the characteristic or feature of something, whereas Quantity refers to the numerical value of something. SpongeBob carred more on Quality of the Patties, while Neptune carried more on the Quantity of the Patties. However, Quality is more important than Quantity, so that's why Neptune's Patties were horrible.
Fun fact: The guy that was in the shower was actually Tom Kenny, the voice of SpongeBob and the French narrator.

I don’t like how the writers do him like that like SpongeBob and Patrick can be so annoying and he still gets punished.
@@ZRecords-0 I agree with that completely, sometimes I feel like SpongeBob and Patrick deserve a punishment and they hardly get it
Squidward can get very meta. One time he said something to the effect of "why must everyone 11 minutes of my life be miserable," referring to the length of the average episode.
