I saw it in his face when he and his wife were walking thru the tunnel to the winners circle. The BOY cheated thinking he may make up a few lengths on Rock Your World and that might let him hit the board. When Rock Your World didn't get out of the gate, he was caught. He knew these tests were coming, he wouldn’t willingly jeopardize his reputation on the biggest day in racing. My guess is that a syringe was used to administer this (legal) drug to another horse, and not cleaned properly before being used on Medina spirit.
The vet can go back and see which horses in the barn were administered Betamethasone on the same day Medina Spirit may have been treated with something else using the same syringe. You may be onto something here.

21 picograms is the equivalent to less than 2 milligrams. 1 Baby aspirin has 88 milligrams of pain reliever in it. This is so minute a level it is questionable why a racing commission would make such an issue over that amount. Personally I think Kentucky horseman hate Baffert shipping in and beating them year over year. Something stinks here.
I'm usually happy to pile on Bob but in this particular case I'm just too confused. I think there is a possibility someone outside his barn either nefariously messed with the horse or there is a mistake at the lab. That stuff can be administered by just rubbing it on the skin, how easy is that.
You could rub betamethasone all over a horse and it wouldn't show up in a blood test. For that it has to be injected. And I guarantee you Baffert has a night watchman. Baffert has skated close to the line for years. But the tests are much more sensitive now. He is using drugs to close to the race and the horse isn't clearing them. And betamethasone is often used to mask other drugs.

That the test result was made public--however that happened--before the 2nd part of the test was even administered is simply t-o-t-a-l-l-y unacceptable.

I definitely think it would be some tampering with the tests. That man is just gifted at managing the horse to its peak on that day. It would be different if it only happened a few times that he won. He has won consistently. Drugs, however good they are, are not going to affect 7 horses in a way to win like that.

This is an ongoing problem for the sport. Many every day people are scepticle of Western medicine. Many people who would ban racing believe in all sorts of food fads, alternative medicines & assorted 'quackeries'. IMO we are dealing with massive consumer fraud. Look at Lance Armstrong, MLB & to some extent the NFL - people cheating for large sums of money along with stolen prestige. There seems to be no end to it.

Jones' great horses were dissappointing as stallions. Whirlaway & Citation don't have the impact on the breed that Jim Fitzsimmons has had with Nashua & Bold Ruler. Old timers have told me that trainers were using heroin (or an opiate) in the 40's but I've not been able to confirm that. I've often wondered why the 3 TC winners of the 40's had such little impact on the breed. Nashua is the dam sire of Mr. P & Bold Ruler is in every pedigree in the USA.
At least the Otomax story is plausible; it does in fact contain Betamethasone and could, theoretically, be used topically for fungal dermatitis. But the veterinarian who prescribed it is a dunce for recommending it for a competition horse that has to pass drug screens. And ultimately, Bob is also a dope for using it without reading the label first. Trainers responsibility. Should he be stripped of the Derby? Everyone runs under & is aware of the zero tolerance policy. Again, trainers responsibility. He should be taken down. Then a frank discussion should start about altering the zero tolerance policy to make it more realistic, if possible.

Then, instead of filing a public complaint as it usually does, the board made a series of decisions behind closed doors as it moved to drop the case and lighten the penalty for any horse found to have the banned substance that Justify tested positive for in its system.

The reason y it's the amount it is in kentucky is they don't want you to tap horses the day before the race in calf it would not have been a violation meds vary state to state I think he loses this one but I don't see how it changed the outcome. About 10 years ago a horse I owned got a positive for caffeine because coffee was spilled on his hay bale. In the 80s I'd feed my horses m and m s these are 1000 lb animals minor traces are a violation but not cheating or doping

21 picograms is the equivalent to less than 2 milligrams. 1 Baby aspirin has 88 milligrams of pain reliever in it. This is so minute a level it is questionable why a racing commission would make such an issue over that amount. Personally I think Kentucky horseman hate Baffert shipping in and beating them year over year. Something stinks here.

I'm usually happy to pile on Bob but in this particular case I'm just too confused. I think there is a possibility someone outside his barn either nefariously messed with the horse or there is a mistake at the lab. That stuff can be administered by just rubbing it on the skin, how easy is that.
You could rub betamethasone all over a horse and it wouldn't show up in a blood test. For that it has to be injected. And I guarantee you Baffert has a night watchman. Baffert has skated close to the line for years. But the tests are much more sensitive now. He is using drugs to close to the race and the horse isn't clearing them. And betamethasone is often used to mask other drugs.

That the test result was made public--however that happened--before the 2nd part of the test was even administered is simply t-o-t-a-l-l-y unacceptable.

I definitely think it would be some tampering with the tests. That man is just gifted at managing the horse to its peak on that day. It would be different if it only happened a few times that he won. He has won consistently. Drugs, however good they are, are not going to affect 7 horses in a way to win like that.

This is an ongoing problem for the sport. Many every day people are scepticle of Western medicine. Many people who would ban racing believe in all sorts of food fads, alternative medicines & assorted 'quackeries'. IMO we are dealing with massive consumer fraud. Look at Lance Armstrong, MLB & to some extent the NFL - people cheating for large sums of money along with stolen prestige. There seems to be no end to it.

Jones' great horses were dissappointing as stallions. Whirlaway & Citation don't have the impact on the breed that Jim Fitzsimmons has had with Nashua & Bold Ruler. Old timers have told me that trainers were using heroin (or an opiate) in the 40's but I've not been able to confirm that. I've often wondered why the 3 TC winners of the 40's had such little impact on the breed. Nashua is the dam sire of Mr. P & Bold Ruler is in every pedigree in the USA.

Should he be stripped of the Derby? Everyone runs under & is aware of the zero tolerance policy. Again, trainers responsibility. He should be taken down. Then a frank discussion should start about altering the zero tolerance policy to make it more realistic, if possible.

Baffert has been dirty for years. He violates the rules that many others follow. Better's love him because they know they have AN UNFAIR ADVANTAGE betting on his horses. The race tracks use to love him because he would help the handle. I would call it a Dead Heat between Baffert and Richard Dutrow as to who is the most crooked.
Baffert himself will not attend the Preakness - says he would be too much of a distraction. I feel Medina Spirit should not be allowed to run either, because it’s a no win situation. If he loses - he wasn’t good enough without the substance, and if he wins more questions will arise and the situation will be even more damaging if that second test comes back positive.
