Is it me or does it seem a bit jerky when running?
It was the very first time it started running since it hadn’t been broken in at all yet. It got smoother running with time. That is more of an issue with steam locomotives since there are a lot of moving parts and you have to get all the lubrication spread around and such.

You got some binding with your loco. They did not put yours together properly. You should contact Lionel to see if they can replace it. Doing this work on your own is not something I recommend.
It was fine once it got broken in for a while. Runs smoothly at low speeds now.
Are live steam gauges same as electric ones? Can I operate accucraft on an electric track?
There are at least some live stream that will run on G gauge track. You may not be able to run them at the same time while running an electric one because they aren’t likely to have insulated wheels and so would cause a short if there was power to the track.
What happened with the o gauge switching layout you had started on?
I’ll be building it next year

All Lionel engines still run in conventional mode from what I have seen in the past. If anything, as long as the voltage is high enough you should still be able to operate it using the wireless controller.
