I worked as a school support staff member in Calgary. Since 2004, the hourly wage has not even increased by $5 an hour since then. That's 20 years with minimal pay increases. I was a single mom, raising my child with no child support from a deadbeat dad. My wage would have been a challenge just to support myself as a single person. For those saying support staff are uneducated, support staff isn't just educational assistants. It includes psychologists, library technicians, secretaries, and every other job that isn't a trustee, teacher, administrator, or caretaker/custodian. All these jobs require post secondary education. Learn about what you're talking about before giving your ignorant opinion. When support staff hardly make more than minimum wage while working with special needs kids, English second language learners is a travesty! Give them a raise already. We were always told we were lucky they didn't cut our jobs while giving school trustees, administrators, teachers, and caretakers raises. Also, support staff are stretched thin with not enough of them to properly provide the help needed to the students. Education is a broken system, just like health care in this province. A province this wealthy can do better.
This is not true. Educational assistants need to take courses to do their jobs. Support staff includes psychologists, social workers, librarians, caretakers, and more. All these positions require post secondary education. Some positions aren't paid much higher than minimum wage. Have you ever worked with children with severe disabilities? It's not an easy job. They deserve more hours and higher pay.
Let them - they are glorified baby-sitters who want to make $50000 a year plus for seasonal part-time work. Time for parents to take on their responsibilities!

Find another job then duh
Right! This is just the perfect example of why people do not want this vocation.
Emotional support teachers😂
And what is also true is that there is an extreme shortage of EA’s because no one wants the job. The question is why do people not want this job?
😂😂😂😂😂 this is a real thing??? 😂😂😂😂😂
I'll take a paid afternoon coffee ☕️ break and summer off. Where do I apply. The epsb website?
Please feel free! Who doesn't stop you?
Education assistant is not a high skilled job so it doesn’t deserve to be paid as much as real educators.
So low skill job workers deserve what, a tent on the side of the road?
So you can come back and complain about all the tents on the side of the road?

It's not part time nor seasonal. Also there is an Educational Staff shortage, sign up if you think it's a good deal.
Tell me you don't know what you're talking about without telling me you don't know what you're talking about.
@@gillianessien7417Education assistants are not needed. Teachers are needed. The assistants are not teachers and not even close.
@NaviSall-rr The difference between an EA and teacher is approx 6 months of post-secondary education.
@@carlspack18 EA education is 8 months of training.
Wow, that’s crazy
Homeschool in Canada
Run the classes without these workers as they used to be.
that wouldn't stress the full-time, under-paid school staff at all...
There didn't "used to be" students with so many needs, including severe special needs, in classrooms.
You obviously have no idea what's going on in schools.
