I am 27 years old and from Germany. I have no ties to the US whatsoever, but I watched a lot of Football growing up. Mainly NFL because my father is a Packers fan. Ee actually went and studied abroad at Wisconsin for a year and lived in Milwaukee. At some point I got introduced to College Football because my father watched some of the Badger Games. And then in 2012 I watched the last game of the season: Wisconsin at Penn State. I instantly fell in love with the atmosphere at Beaver Stadium. I never looked back. Have been a fan ever since. I've been watching pretty much every Penn State Football game for years. Last year I fullfilled a long time dream of mine and went to the Ohio State at Penn State game. Even tho we lost it was an experience I will never forget. And I'll come back and gladly chant "WE ARE" again, even tho I 'can't be' a 'real' fan.... This kind of gatekeeping has no place within the greatest sport on planet earth.
I'm born and raised in NYC. Never been to Tallahassee ever, don't have one connection to fsu but I been a fan for 30 years now. I can't imagine someone trying to tell me I'm not a real fan because I didn't go there lol
19 years old, live in Ga but feel guilty for being a Bama fan since they win so much, but the first football game I ever watched was Bama V Seminoles in 2018 and since then I’ve been in love with Bama, Roll Tide
For college football, you can enter the transfer portal at the end of the season, you can't transfer in the middle of a season, and under no circumstances can you celebrate, when your team loses and you are suited up as a player on the losing team, Jake Pope-Georgia.
I respect any fan who has true loyalty. The only thing I don’t understand is when someone is a fan of a team they have no connection to. Whether that connection be that you played for them, attended the school, home state/town team, or if you were just born/married into it. It’s the main reason why I never got into the NFL a whole lot. I understand it’s the best football in the world, but I’m not from a state or a city that has an NFL team. It seems unreasonable for me to just arbitrarily pick a team to be a fan of or just pick the team closest to my place of living. The latter there would just feel like a “cop out”, for lack of a better term.
Here in Alabama, you have to choose pretty much from birth: Alabama or Auburn. Then, loyalty is a BIG thing. No fair weather fans allowed!!! ROLL TIDE!
I was giving a friend some some grief about him being a band wagon Oregon fan his response was great if he paid for his son to go there for 4 years he could be a fan, I could not argue with that
I get that but I was born and raised in Charlottesville, Virginia. I my mom went to UVA my mom ended up working for UVa my dad worked at UVA at one point. So I’m UVa through and through, but that means we’re never going to be on the level of the top tear programs and it just makes me mad that my close friends like schools like Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon and they get to cheer for those teams even though most of them have no affiliation. And then they bully me for being a UVa fan.
I have been a fan recruiter for decades. I just ask, are you a champion, do you want to be a champion? Then I present the argument of becoming a Crimson Tide fan. I put a coaster on the table, because we are in a bar,😂 with a written commitment offer. I close the deal like Coach Saban. I recruited a girlfriend of an auburn guy right in the front of him. Coach Saban, put me on the trail! I love sharing the championships! Roll Tide 🐘🐘🐘🌊🌊🌊🏈🏈
I got two schools Washington Huskies and LSU but I root for Washington if they both play each other which has happened once. I will always root for Washington, if there is a playoff scenario I always root for Washington. I have strong family ties to both I mean like family that attends LSU games and has LSU gear around the house like a ton. They have similar colors, east coast and west coast it works perfect for me because they hardly play each other and they usually play at different times so after one of them plays I can usually catch the other game before or after.
I meet a few of those qualification metrics but I think that is nonsense just root for the team you love and be respectful of others. Accept Florida State fans ,Georgia fans and Miami fans you can be as rude as you want to those people😂💙🧡💙🧡🐊🐊🐊
I'm from Spain, I root for the Carolina Panthers in the NFL, just because when I discovered the NFL was the one with the coolest logo and jerseys (imo). I have no clue which college should I root because I have no links with any of them. What should I do?
Choose a team that you like just like you did with the panthers but be loyal don’t change! I’m assuming you are very loyal to the la liga club you watch also!
Lol the only criteria is being a fanatic about a team. You say you’re a fan of George R R Martin? Then why the hell are you saying you’re a fan Stephen King?
I’d say if you are a fan since childhood (aka raised by a die hard fan) or raised by relatives that are from that state/area of the college. Also you can’t pull for different school in different sports… that stuff is so annoying.. those “I’m a duke basketball fan, Ohio state/USC football fan, cowboys NFL fan” makes me sick to see such wuss fandom out there. I’ve been a part of VOL nation since ‘96, dad was raised in Johnson city TN, I grew up in western NC and then Atlanta for 20 years. boy do I hate the dawgs! And I love watching the Heels cut down the nets 🍊🍊🍊🦶🦶🦶

Only rule is you have to be loyal. Represent even when we suck! 💪🏼
I was born in Texas, but Michigan has a place in my heart, I lived in Michigan for 8 years and became a Wolverine 〽️💙💛!
Being Canadian I picked 2 teams that I follow heavily. Tennesee Vols and Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Go Pokes!
Completely agree with you JD. Just be a real fan is all it takes. That’s from a fan that fits (fit) all three criteria as a USC Trojans fan! ✌🏻
One rule pick your team and stand by them
Here in Louisiana we are LSU. All 4.624M of us.
Them Ragin Cajuns got some fans to though bro😂

If school is the only division 1 school in your state…then yes (aka Nebraska)

captain collins sounds like an aggie. LOL
I’m from Oklahoma but I got the Nebraska genes from my dads side of the family.

I’m from Wyoming so I don’t watch professional sports.
The []_[] vs everybody !
I know many people who graduated from universities and do not like the team. Many of them like other school teams.
I meet a few of those qualification metrics but I think that is nonsense just root for the team you love and be respectful of others. Accept Florida State fans ,Georgia fans and Miami fans you can be as rude as you want to those people😂💙🧡💙🧡🐊🐊🐊
I passed the first three criteria. GO NOLES!!!

@@RyanFro It's not hard to be loyal being a Real Madrid fan hahaha. I cannot say the same thing being a Panther! These are some hard times in NC😂
GO BLUE!
As long as you root for my team...you're alright.
Can I be loyal to 2 teams though? WVU and FSU fan here
How about international fans who don’t have a college team but an NFL team
Lol the only criteria is being a fanatic about a team. You say you’re a fan of George R R Martin? Then why the hell are you saying you’re a fan Stephen King?
How does content like this even get published?? Be a fan for who you want!!
GBR 🌽🌽🌽
