    I love your videos. Thank you for sharing with us. I noticed you did not use a "high sheering" tool with the preservative.. I know it is not a thick product. Is this why?

    • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401
      @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You only need high shear where low shear is not sufficient to break droplets or particles into a small enough size and/or to ensure sufficiently homogenous distribution of all ingredients. The low viscosity of these products means high shear is not necessary to achieve this but don't forget this could alter depending on other materials you may use, different input rates and final batch size. I hope this helps, Belinda

    Great video.Is hydroxyethylcellulose heat sensitive? I just try to make an emulsion with it, so had to heat the water phase to 75C and it split around 60-65C. It formed lumps... I used Geogard ultra and sodium citrate in the water phase, as well so I am not sure if could be the Geogard that could be responsible for the lumps..

    Hi Belinda..thank you fo sharing..it is a very informative video.. I have tried many times to prepare the mist but i have obtained a cloudy solution after a few hours. I have used polysorbate 10x than the w/w% of the oil phase, initially i got a clear solution, however after few hours the solution turned cloudy. Can you give me some suggestions on how could i make a stable clear solution for the entire shelf life. Thank you.

    • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401
      @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401  ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends how much oil and polysorbate you have used. If you have tried with 1% oil, it may be too much for the formula. Also consider your final pH. I'm having sensory difficulties with hydroxyethyl cellulose. The product appears to leave behind a dry whiteish patch that settles into all lines in the skin. It also rubs in tiny bit white if a large amount is used and when it dried it starts pilling off if rubbed. I'm worried that these problems will appear with other gelling material as well. What do you think about combining different gelling items?

    • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401
      @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HEC is normally very easy to use with little residue however it is hard to say without seeing your complete formulation. Are you using too much perhaps; or too little humectant and/or emollient in combination - that could be the problem. Try those fix its first, or you can study our Certificate in Advanced Cosmetic Science or Diploma of Personal Care Formulation to get more detailed training in this area. Happy formulating!

    Hello Belinda. What are the different effects other than color would you possibly get when using more solubilizer than oil?

    • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401
      @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure what you mean, you only use the solubiliser to solubilise the fragrance or have delivery of another oil; or more solubiliser can be sticky or can be used for cleaning, but does not suit this leave on mist or gel form. Hi, how can i eliminate the formation of soapy effect for water base serums and toners?

    • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401
      @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Vanessa, the point of a solubiliser is that they are very high HLB - very surface active loving which means they also form bubbles easily. You could reduce the input of the solubiliser but it is a fine line between reducing it so as to reduce soapy effect and then not having enough to solubilise your lipids - you will normally get some soaping just because of the materials they are. But play with the input/ratio to reduce it, just be careful of then not using enough to solubilise your lipids! Alcohol reduces the soapy effect too but is often not desirable for your consumers. Hope this helps, happy formulating!

    What do u mean by nutrilizing the polymer ?

    • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401
      @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, some polymers need neutralising to fully hydrate and achieve full viscosity and stability benefits - while others don't. For example, carbomers need neutralising otherwise they won't provide their full gelling benefits. You can learn more about polymers and their selection with our Certificate in Advanced Cosmetic Science or Diploma of Personal Care Formulation - please email us info@personalcarescience.com.au for full course details.
