After leaving Harley in the dust, I’m interested to see how it compares to my challenger and the new wing. Last Harley I test rode was a 2016 ultra and compared to what I have now, felt heavy, top heavy, and just uncomfortable.
You can’t compare the Road🏳️🌈 Glide to the Challenger you W👀D have to spend thousands of dollars 💰💰 just to make it keep up with the gold wing & Challenger Harleys haves Got cheap antique suspension .. they are beautiful antique replicas Love from Mississippi USA 🇺🇸
M8 114 is a whole other world compared to a 2016 w/ the Twin Cam 103... there are many changes between the bike you rode now and what Mengy rode in this video.
@@schmoofadoop my buddy rented the 114 road glide special. He had zero good things to say about it. He has a Road glide with 131 and aftermarket suspension. Embarrassing he called it. He said the challenger should be a head to head with the 131 comparison rather the challenger VS 114. Something to be said about that comparison
@@Sodiumfreeriding glad you like your Challenger and yeah a 131 is a whole other animal... i would never upgrade my M8 114 beyond my Stage 2 w/ the torque cam, etc. Hell my 2006 Vulcan 2000 rolled out of the factory with a 125ci (2053cc) motor 15 years ago! So I definitely laughed at Harley's for years for this among many other reasons. Also I too dislike the Special! Totally different setup, seat height, front rear wheels are different sizes, lousy stock seat and the travel suspension on the Special's is terrible... none of these apply on the Limited, which also has lowers and a twin cooled motor on top of king tour pack, surround sound, much better rear lighting, double the suspension travel over the Special, matched 17" rims, plush touring seat stock, touring windscreen stock, rear passenger boards, adjustable lowers, etc... Just for fun you should go ride a Road Glide Limited and come back and tell us what you think then! If you would be willing to do that, I would be willing to go back to that Indian dealer and test ride a Challenger, then we can compare notes!
I just traded in my 2018 GW Tour for a 2021 Road Glide Ultra Limited. The Goldwing bored me to death, I was not even riding it anymore. Yes, GW are more mechanical reliable, no heat from the engine, super smooth and light, but it was missing the joy of the rumble and the community feeling and culture. I am loving every second riding on my new Harley.
Congrats on your new Road Glide! I'm the opposite though, riding the new Goldwing excites me more than any of my Harleys ever did. Thankfully we have a wide variety of bikes to choose from! 😎
I laughed at Harley for the first 15 years of riding street motorcycles... laughed at their performance, nicknamed them "Screaming Beagles" and all the usual jokes. Over that time, I've bought and sold many powerful bikes, Vulcan 2000, Yamaha Raider, M109R, ZX-14, Street Triple R... I've test ridden literally dozens of others too like the Rocket 3. I first test rode and then rented a Road Glide for a weekend... ended up with a 2020 Road Glide Limited, did a Stage 2 kit for fun and 99% of the time when I roll out of the garage it's the glide. Anyone saying Harley's are "antiques" or outdated are ignorant like I was myself and should go ride one... For those who say buy a Challenger? Buy one and then bolt on all the upgrades you'd need to make it equivalent to a Road Glide Limited and then see how the $ lines up! I also dislike the sound of the Indian motors, but that's entirely my opinion only of course. I rode all the big Victory bikes too before they went under, same deal... I didn't like any of them. I stopped in to the one and only Indian dealer within hours of me and the fit and finish, paint quality and cockpit were all inferior in my opinion. There was ONE person at the entire dealership... I also asked them to go for a test ride and the salesman said no b/c "...it's a Sunday and our service department is closed... if we break down we'll be stranded" WORST SALESMAN EVER! lol I literally rode from there over to two other HD dealers nearby... 50+ bikes in the lot, test rode multiple bikes back to back no problem... then rented and bought one from there. I love all bikes and don't care what other people ride and have a variety of bikes myself... anyone saying Harley's are shit in 2021 should go ride one!
I think the Challenger is a better performing bike than the Road Glide, but you are correct that no one matches HD's fit and finish. I love my Goldwing but Honda's fit and finish pales compared to HD. Harleys aren't the "best" bikes on the road, but they still offer a lot of great stuff and in some ways are unique to the market, and that has value too. 😎
We are very happy with our '20 RGL. That's something I noticed when we bought our first Harley ('18 Ultra Limited), like you said, there's nothing like riding a Harley. Sounds like you are having a blast on this ride! Thanks for a great video👍
My first Harley was a 2001 RoadGlide I bought June, 2013. Thought I upgraded when I traded it for a 2015 Limited in December 2015. Missed my RoadGlide. On my way to Sturgis last year I wrecked and I'm on a 2017 RoadGlide Ultra now. I really enjoyed the upgraded HO 103 that was in my 2015 Limited but this new Milwaukee 8 is an absolute dream. Really love my RGU and I'll never part with it. Great vid and ride safe.
Just bought my Road Glide standard 2 and half months ago and loving every bit of it. I had to install a heel shifter on mine. For a second I thought you were going to switch over to the dark side.
Congrats on your new bike! I owned Road Glides for 10 years so I know full well how awesome they are! I did miss the heel shifter though, if I ever bought one again I'd need to put that back on.
When I test rode the Challenger last year I literally stalled it right away, totally forgot to pull the clutch in. Even caught it on film too and kept it in my video on the Challenger, lol. Damn Honda and their awesome DCT! 😁
I have the 2021 RGL after having a 2005 Goldwing and find the rider comfort comparable to each other but the passenger comfort is way better on the Road Glide for my wife. I find the handling better than the Goldwing and after some getting used to the Harley it feels lighter to me while moving and much more nimble, thanks for the great review I agree with most of your observations for sure ..........................JB..
Congrats on your new bike! The Road Glide is a very nimble bike for it's size and weight, certainly feels more nimble than the Street Glide does, at least for me it does.
I’m having a hard time deciding on a new RGL or GWDCT. I’ve been on Ultras since 1990, and about 250 thousand miles have been logged on my 4 Ultra Classics. I haven’t ridden the GW yet, or the new RGL, but just sitting on the RGL I can tell it feels right. The new bars and seat fit me just right, and I love the sound of the VTwin, I’m almost afraid to ride the GW. I am getting older, and my Ultra at 950 lbs. is getting hard to muscle around, especially when I have to back it into my garage. I may like the lighter weight and the reverse gear of the Honda. Nice video.
Definitely ride the GWT first. The RGL is an excellent touring bike, but the GWT is better in many ways. HOWEVER, it all depends on what is more important to you, and you won't know which bike suits you better until you ride them both. The GWT rides nicer, has more power, is quieter, has the great electric windshield, and is more modern, BUT the RGL has a very pleasing sound and IMHO has better storage and a much nicer GPS. Ride them both and you'll know for certain which one you want! 😁
@@MotoMengy I’ve ridden a few 2nd and 3rd gen GWs, and coming off a Harley, my legs felt cramped, and my wrists felt twisted in a weird way because of the bars. The Harley you know is like sitting in a recliner, and that GW riding position has to take some getting used too.
@@Donfleebie1 After 20K miles I now prefer the riding position of the new Goldwing over the Road Glide. It is more upright but I'm finding it more comfy on long distance rides.
Copied m8 from my 2012 Victory cross country 4 valves per cylinder in 2017. Yeah they gone though. I have that and recently purchased 2022 Gold wing DCT, come on summer.
Honestly no I don't. Someday I might buy a used HD as a 2nd bike just for fun, but the Goldwing has converted me and I doubt I'd ever buy a touring bike again that wasn't a DCT or didn't have an electric windshield, and sadly Harley has neither of those things. 😞

@@MotoMengy The dealer nearest me has a lot more used than new and I have to wonder why there are new ones they've had for months that aren't selling and the difference in price between the used and new isn't much at all, BUT, my comment is more about standard experience that will take hours while they figure out just how much they can fleece someone. I was in this particular dealer a few weeks ago and while discussing my experiences buying the motorcycles I've bought new, I could tell they were a little uncomfortable. I work straight forward on price OTD and I look at the fees and other ways they go for ADP, but it has to be based on total cost, not monthly payments and usually I have got in and out with the bike in an hour. I don't go for the Steve Richards/Andy Elliot routine. If you don't know who they are, look them up.
