    Martin Mystery may seem like your average action-adventure horror comedy cartoon, but it actually has a backstory spanning decades. Many fans of the series are aware of the comic iteration of the concept, Martin Mystère, but very few have discussed them outright. Today, we'll go through the history of the comics, how they stack up to the YTV cartoon and explore how we still talk about this iconic character 40 years later.
    Also, there's a Totally Spies crossover. Marathon Media was on that grind.

    It's so nice to hear people talk about this show because this was one of the first "serious" shows I got into when I was younger. I think this, Courage, and Billy and Mandy were what got me into horror fiction, so I appreciate it a lot! I wanna watch this show again, but man it would be so cool to see this remade in the future as a closer adaptation of its original source.

    I'm glad that Martin Mystery is getting some recognition these recent months. Of the shows I've watched, this is one that stuck with me. There was much to take from.

    19:52 The 2-part finale starts off with the Center showing footage of her screwing up or tripping, it goes for minuntes and then in the second part the Center computer is like "That was a glitch you totally have cool moments" and they show less than half a minute and most of her cool moments came from the finale.

    With this and Jordan Fringe, Martin Mystery has been popping off on youtube lately. I happened to re-watch the series a little awhile ago and it was fine. I mostly just really like these episodic spooky monster of the week stuff where anything can happen and that was basically carrying it. I too was let down when the thing with him and the girl just went nowhere. Still, it on the level you'd expect for something like this at the time.
    I knew the comics were different, I'm used to slightly obscure things like this being basically in name only to whatever it was adapted for lol
    This is something I wouldn't mind a reboot of, it's prime for it.

    MM is the proof that you can do everything right and fail anyway... It was 10/10, but got cancelled due to totally spies hype. - TS is a great cartoon too, but you know, they could coexist in a perfect world.

    In this show that features monsters, demons, aliens and all kinds of beasts mythological, the least believable thing about Martin Mystery the Tv Show is that there's a school called Torrington in Sherbrooke and the students are anglophone. Absolutely and completely unrealistic if you're Quebecois and know that there are like 0 anglophones in Sherbrooke it's like the most Franco-Quebecois city ever lol I remember telling Jera that and they were like "really?" But yeh. Not a single anglophone private school there, let alone anglophones to attend.
    Anyway, good video so far, Delhi.

    For some reason in the Totally spies crossover episode "Totally Mystery Much" Diana & Java aren't in it and there's no explanation on why there missing.

      I like to think MOM just wanted Martin to go solo on this one. Its just a found frozen Yeti and it doesnt have any threats that happened around it. It would seem the Center wants to have the frozen Yeti to their facility.

      @@chimaeraarts they could have mentioned that. It never made sense why Diana couldn't be in it.

    Ah, I loved this show as a kid, and while I still do have a soft spot for it, I do understand your disappointment with the show. I've been vaguely aware of the existence of the comics for some while now (not until many years after the cartoon ended though), but I never realized just how different the Monster of the Week cartoon I knew was from the gritty conspiracy theories comics I'd only heard of.
    While personally, I prefer to think of the cartoon and the comics as mostly unrelated entities for the sake of my sanity, you have a very good point about how it is impossible to enjoy the adaptation once you've gotten into the source material if the adaptation is too different or in-name-only (I myself have difficulty enjoying Disney's Jungle Book because of how drastically they changed Kaa's superior book incarnation).
    Would definitely be cool to get a more faithful animated adaptation of the comics in the future and maybe instead redefine the Marathon cartoon as its own separate thing. The Godzilla fandom basically did that with the Tristar movie, lol.
    Excellent video as always though.

    20:41 Why doesn't Diana have her own U-Watch?, like Java's probably stronger than a regular human, Billy has his hover-chair that could be loaded with weapons, but Diana's a normal human, Martin and M.O.M. are regular humans and they've got U-Watches, (I know that M.O.M.'s got a different better type of watch I don't remember the name), but my point being why not give Diana a fighting chance? Heck, why not have 2 U-Watches in the field, at least for analysis purposes that way if Martin ever got incapacitated, the team had a backup? If anything this makes it look they the Center, either has limited resources or just screwed over Diana for no reason.

    • @chimaeraarts
      @chimaeraarts ปีที่แล้ว +3

      For me since the trio are on the same place and usually assigned together on mission, it could be MOM doesnt need Diana having her own U-watch as Martin is nearby and if ever he is incapacitated, she seems to know how use it well in her hands at times. It could be a Center rule thing that agents in groups or pairs only has 1 U-watch wearer as seen on that episode of the lost tribes where 2 field agents are captured and only 1 of them has a U-watch (an Ultra U-watch at that and Diana mentions only agents who served the center for a long time can have it). Theres also Marvin having his own U-watch when he joined, that episode Marvin and Martin using the I-cutter was bit repetetive as 1 cutter can do the job. Whats weird is when Marvin was reassigned to another Center area, he doesnt wear a U-watch anymore. It could be taken away from him by MOM or that Center untold rule of only 1 agent in pairs or more can wear 1.

    • @hafidbense4934
      @hafidbense4934 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes it never made sense. Because she was also an agent and whenever Martin gets kidnapped she needs the U watch and they make it seem like he dropped it or something

    Martin Mystery is a French comic, not Italian, although I'm assuming that comic is translated in Italian.

    • @DelhiWacky
      @DelhiWacky  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      the only thing french about it is the protagonist's last name, which is literally just 'mystery' in french. italian character; created, written and illustrated by italians; distributed by an italian publisher. the cartoon is more french, although quebec was kind of taking the lead on actual production.

    Come on you know this video can't roast peoples childhoods. That would require Martin mystery to be a part of someone's childhood that they cared about. In all seriousness, it's interesting to think marathon wanted totally spies for boys, when two different shows were pretty much already filling that role when totally spies started airing.
