Why are the regular countdown clips so short, but the comedy version they unload the entire show? I don't know the rules ( and maybe since I only know wheel or fortune) but it seems like 4 vowels and the rest consonants are a standard was to go.

I'm beginning to get a bit suspicious about Countdown these days. On the 9th Jan 2019 episode, both contestants got a 9 letter word in one particular round. The word was "Elasipods"! Isn't it strange that both would get such an unlikely word? It's like they're just learning that "scrabble words" book off by heart, without really knowing what the word means.
For a while I have wondered if contestants should know and be able to explain the meaning of a word if they want points for it. I know that's not the game but it would sort the men from the boys (i.e. the people who have a genuinely good vocabulary from the ones who just memorise words)

And even then one player beat the other by 40 points which is a thrashing. 2. Both players are good at stemming. The letters that appear on Countdown are very "predictable". It's likely both contestants saw ADIPOSES (an easily spottable Countdown word) and knew that L is one of its 4 possible stems. ADIPOSES + L = ELASIPODS. It's not that hard to remember once you've seen it hundreds of times before.
