Smh resisting will tire out the wrestler. In UFC if your only being defensive they'll stop the fight. My conclusion because it's illegal and your opponent will become tired. Street fight it's no rules...
Thank you again, Prof. Knight, for sharing your techniques with the world. You video shows techniques seldom taught during regular training sessions. Usually they would be taught mostly as tips from higher belts after training. Once Gordon Ryan said he had not good BJJ before training with J. Danaher because of poor escapes. He said the fear of failing an attack and poor escape skills gave him little confidence. He said Danaher improved his escape skills and therefore had no fear of counter attacks. And you addressed my escape issues right off the bat. I am very appreciative of your BJJ contributions to the community. I wish more professors would be thoughtful of the beginners as you are. Again, thank you. God bless!
Anybody watching this this is a wonderful analogy as it pertains to jiu jitsu but medically speaking please nobody push anything all the way through you so that you can clip it off on the other side who knows what vessels or organs or whatever you might destroy on the way through wrap it in place and go to the hospital! Thank you Eli for all of your great content I love your channel but I had to say something.
I was just referring to the way you remove a fishhook - having to push it through. Which that’s not going to hit any organs or anything viral typically if it’s just a fishhook. But I get it and appreciate it.
Love it! Seems very Aiki in concept. Principles are so valuable but often underutilised. Seem so obvious once they are pointed out! Would be nice to see some more principles as many other channels focus mostly on technique.
@@KnightJiuJitsu I don't think it should put you off, you could always try make a few? I found this one engaging enough. To be honest I think it's what helps to define an art to a deeper level. There is an infinite amount of possibilities with techniques when considering variations but it's the thought process that underpins everything and links it all together. Otherwise people are just accumulating a rather than consolidating. Obviously technique is important but principles are what enable creativity.
Great video!! Thank you for sharing the thoughtful approach! If you decide to make part two on this principle, I would vote to see escapes from the triangle, rear naked choke, omoplata, and americana. I feel like each of those has a similar balance point or barb, and as a set, those 4 would basically round out most of the ways I find myself in trouble as a beginner!
Man, thanks for cutting through the BS and breaking it down to this basic concept. One of the things I hate the most about other online trainers is how they keep repeating phrases like "Most people teach this wrong" or "this is fine for white belt". Like, why isn't there a consensus on what to teach beginners (and if it's correct or not)? And why are people teaching techniques and escapes that only work on other beginners and people who have no idea how to fight to begin with?
By far, some of the best instructional BJJ videos out there. Even people like me, who seem to be incapable of doing well in Jiujitsu can learn and apply these techniques 🙏🤙
Thanks Eli. Really helpful framework for thinking about mistakes. Your explanations are very easy to follow. Keep that great content coming, (but find a new barber shop)
This is great, I see lots of videos that talk about to get a submission but there aren't that many on how to escape a submission. This is basically a part two of the video you made a year ago on the First 5 Submissions beginners need to know. Extremely helpful. Thank you.
Me and a couple friends tried to get into bjj late 2019, but before we could get into it covid hit and the clubs and places we were going to all had to close down. We only just started getting back into it (and we are staying safe only rolling with one partner so as not to spread things) but Im so pumped to try all this cool new stuff with my friend. We only got back into it a couple days ago and each day we're learning new moves to counteract each other's submissions and get into more advantageous positions. Definitely gonna keep binging videos from this channel and others. Also if you have any helpful tips for beginners other than your basic "stick with it" by all means I love new info.
I’m glad to hear you’re back training and rolling. I hate that places are still closed down, but grateful that there’s still training. Obviously keep at it, be patient and all that. Drill lots of reps. Focus on positions. Defense first and foremost. Lots of other advice but too much to write. Thanks for watching!
Thank you. Always see video on how to do these move but since I newer and get caught in them I've been interested in escapes. Be great if you could add an attack after the escape. Great stuff though. I've watched a bunch of your vids and follow you on IG. Thx man
You have to retain a good position (position before submission) if they have a weak position they can’t apply the submission. But if they have position, you have to escape before they sink it in. I
Love your fish hook analogy. Helps with deeper understanding of concepts. Is that straight footlock position the outside ashi or standard ashi? Please confirm, thanks!
@@KnightJiuJitsu Thank you for taking the time to respond to me. Appreciate all of the videos you have posted so far, especially the one with all the kimura variations!
@@KnightJiuJitsu I concur 100% on the timing part! The first escape, getting the elbow to the ground is a must! I was taught to get the attacker's back leg between mine. That creates the space for pulling that elbow down and out. Timing! When swept, flipped, thrown, etc, follow and roll with a roll, follow a sweep with a sweep. I'm not being cocky, or, disrespectful, Give this a shot, Have someone from the guard "hip bump" sweep you. Don't fight it, follow it! See where you land? Marcelo Garcia show me the perfect back step pass from half guard. Back step, yet don't allow your butt to touch the mat. Quickly pull your trapped leg out while based on your back stepped foot. Done with speed it will have you mounted on your partner. Sorry if this is not articulated via my words. I'll try to find a video of it? Anyway, to your point, Timing!
That’s a good question, and it applies, just a little differently: the wrist is the tip of the hook, the elbow is the barb. When the arm is wrapped, your chin typically needs to face the wrist and you need to chase the connection to open space. If you turn into the elbow, often (not always) it make it worse.
Curious if you could a video talking about controlling your breathing? One my personal pitfalls if when someone is bearing down on me and their body is physically on my face or something like that. I have an issue with mentally combating "Perceived danger vs real danger" i panic and run out of breath.
With your fancy medical words... jokes aside, I wish I would have watched this before I trained/sparred last night. Can you do one escaping a knee bar?
Last year, it was forbidden during six months, I think it will be the same this year and we have a curfew at 6 pm... I hope we can return to training soon. I become a fat and rusted purple belt ! Ha ha ! :-D
The bard usually always will refer to the hinged joint of the limb (with exceptions), so in the case of Americana it would be the elbow still. If it’s too deep to pull free and there isn’t space to push through, then tap or snap. Any submission fully locked should be inescapable. This is just a principle for escaping when possible, early or late.
@@KnightJiuJitsu yeah thats one definition, and no doubt it is the one that you intended.
