It's just a ship. I haven't read the books yet, but according to reviews there is no romance in the books. In the dramas they are also friends, but some scenes are shot in a fanservice way.

In some part if seems in novel wuxie cannot live without xiaoge and for xiaoge he only indifferent to wuxie. I would say in novel theres absolutely somethin more than brother or friend
