"The Day of the Jackal" refers to a well-known thriller that has taken several forms: * The Novel: * It originated as a 1971 novel by Frederick Forsyth. This book is a classic of the thriller genre, detailing the plot of a professional assassin hired to kill French President Charles de Gaulle. * The 1973 Film: * The novel was adapted into a highly acclaimed 1973 film directed by Fred Zinnemann, starring Edward Fox as the "Jackal." This film is widely regarded as a masterpiece of suspense. * The 1997 Film "The Jackal": * There was also a 1997 film called "The Jackal," starring Bruce Willis and Richard Gere. While it shares the "Jackal" name, it's a very loose adaptation and differs significantly from the original story. * The 2024 TV series: * Most recently there is a 2024 television series, starring Eddie Redmayne. This is a new adaptation of the Frederick Forsyth novel. Therefore, "The Day of the Jackal" can refer to the book, the 1973 film, or the new 2024 television series.
