For those concerned about the alcohol, fragrance, and dye in this product, Laneige makes a hypoallergenic one called Cica Sleeping Mask, which is free of all these ingredients :)
I would love to hear your opinion on K Beauty in general. It’s known to be affordable with decent formulas but just like most skincare, they like to add fragrance to the products.
@@KennaWhitnell Have you tried Krave Beauty? The Krave Beauty Oat So Simple Water Cream and Laneige Water Sleeping Mask were actually formulated by the same person (Dr. Kim Do-hoon). There's an interview here if you're interested! th-cam.com/video/_NXvM96tWS0/w-d-xo.html I'm curious what you would think about the Oat So Simple Water Cream as it has under ten ingredients and was made to suitable for absolutely every skin type.
I'm in my early 20s and have combination acne prone skin. I have been using this for over a year and I absolutely love it! Keeps me well hydrated without making me oily. I also use a light layer of this under my make up in the winter & summer (greeting from hot & humid Texas) and it does not make me oily. Thank you for this detailed review Kenna!
They just came out with a Cica (centella asiatica) sleep mask which sounds even better for dry, sensitive skin. I believe it is fragrance free too. I just ordered it!
I’ve been using langiege since middle school before the k beauty thing really hit the US. So around 10 years. Yes! It’s great! You should try their entire line.
Been using it for years. There is a new one that just came out in a green jar that I want to try. Their serum, lip balm and other moisturizers are fantastic. I have super dry, sensitive skin and it’s great
I have been searching for a product like this and I just bought it because of you! My skin is dyinnggg down here in Detroit and I can’t wait to get this now! Thanks, love!
Have you tried the Laneige Water Bank Moisture Cream? It's not a gel cream, it's heavier, and it feels absolutely lush. I use it as a night cream and it just feels so dreamy.
I absolutely love this product and have almost used up my first jar! I was looking to repurchase, but noticed on the Sephora website that Laneige has come out with the Hypoallergenic Cica Sleeping Mask. For my very sensitive (and also Toronto!) skin that is prone to redness around my nose and irritant breakouts, I'm intrigued! The ingredients list looks pretty different, so I'm wondering what your opinion is on the new Hypoallergenic Sleeping Mask? And is Cica worth the hype?
I have not used the laneige one because I bought the Missha (pretty sure it’s a dupe, just a different k-beauty brand) one like a year ago and I still haven’t burned through that yet. I am planning on trying this one next! I do LOVE the laneige lip sleeping mask and the lip balm!
Kenna! Laneige has a beautiful BB cream foundation with 50++ spf! It’s amazing, and even the lip mask is amazing. It’s a beautiful brand, I really love it. And even for me the sleeping mask had done wonders
I’ve been using this product for over 3 years and I love it. I usually get a pack of samples because are cheaper (amazon). My skin is sensitive and very dry specially during winter but the product is amazing! I keep buying it every time. It feels great on my skin
muskan malek I use it every day when I wear make up everyday during weekends not so much and less often if I don’t have to wear make up (vacations) but even if I use it everyday I don’t feel or see any adverse reaction on my skin
Omg! Try the laneige lip mask and glowy lip balm. My bf hates glosses (he calls them sticky lip crap) but the glowy balm is smooth and super hydrating. And the lip mask is great at night.
I wonder how this compares to the Touch n Sol Waterful Glow Cream, I've tried both and the texture and consistency feel the same. I like them both however out of curiosity I'd like to know...
Hi Kenna, its Keena :D I'm testing out some of The ordinary products at the minute to see if they work with my skin. I got a La roche Posay creme about two weeks ago and it made me come out in a rash all over my neck and eyes. I made a video about my experience :') Thank you for your videos they're very useful !!
Hi Kenna, my primary concern with silicone is just that it tends to not layer well with other silicone-based products. Like if I layer a moisturizer and an SPF and a foundation and two of them contain silicone, they roll together and just crumble off my face. I tried this sleeping mask a few years ago and I liked it but my skin is too sensitive at the moment for the fragrance. You should TOTALLY try the lip mask from Laneige, in my opinion it's the best lip balm I've ever used.
It can definitely be trial and error when mixing products containing silicones. Some of them work beautifully together and others not so much. Other ingredients in each formula can impact how they layer as well! Definitely will check out the lip mask as many people are saying it's their fave!
I love this mask in winter. I use it at night and love to use their sleep mask for lips (specifically apple lime). The lip mask has been my holy grail as I have chronic chapped lips. In the daytime I use Belif True Cream Aqua bomb.

Definitely try more korean skin care lines! As someone whose lived there I can tell you this is just ONE of their many products that wow and dazzle like this. You'll love it.
Awesome review! I LOVE THIS PRODUCT! I stopped using it recently (after 2 years I think?) when I went fragrance free due to sensitivities, but I am thinking I might give it another go now that I have removed other fragranced-items. I totally agree about the instant results. It really helps with redness and hydration. I have been so sad not using it because of that.
Hi Kenna! I know there was a brief section where you talk about silicones. So you talked about how the molecule itself is a ring and does allow movement. But I have noticed when I use products that have any silicone it causes my face to breakout with cystic acne and turn bright red. I’ve cut those out of my regimen and I still have the usual breakout but not like when I use silicones. Could this be an allergy. I always thought it was because I clogged my pores? Very excited for the silicone video. ❤️
I love these videos. I get a kick out of hearing you pronounce the multi syllabic chemical names. Tongue twisters for sure. I have this product and this video was so helpful. Now I know what all the ingredients are accomplishing and I used it last night and my skin is very soft this morning. I have oily, dehydrated skin so I find the hydrating, gel based moisturizers work best for me.
I love this one, it feels so good on the skin. I have really dry skin and this feels so hydrating and the feeling last which is amazing. You and me have the skin type, also I get blemishes, redness and texture in the same spots as you, and this product does for me everything you mentioned.
Thank you for the great info and dissecting all the ingredients. I have a question though. Why sleeping or overnight products are called masks (masques)? When in fact they can be just called moisturizers as they perform just like that. Is there a difference or just a marketing ploy to make them sound fancy?
YES! I got this about a month ago and I love it so much, as a dry girl I can REALLY tell the difference in the morning. Also really happy it does not bother my sensitive skin♥
My skin is super dry and sensitive. Most of the time when I find a moisturizer that is moisturizing enough to calm my dry skin, I end up getting milia. Do you have any recomendations on what ingredients I should either look for or stay away from?
This is one of my favourite skincare products of all time. I was gifted it and I used it UP. But I’ve stopped supporting all skincare brands that push whitening products. And Laneige has a completely whitening range.
I'm severely allergic to fragrance. And I'm getting so tired of finding products that seem really good and then I look them up annnnnnddd....fragrance.
idk I'm disappointed that she even recommended this due to the fact that it has fragrance. When people promote products with fragrance it gives companies less of a reason to take it out from future products. So it really breaks my heart that she didn't at least make a big disclaimer about the fragrance.
Hey Kenna! Thanks for informative video! I plan on trying this mask soon. Do you mind making a video on hydrating lip masks/balms? My favorite lip balms are being either reformulated or sold out at Sephora so I am still looking for new products. Thanks! Also, congratulations on the engagement!
I'd love to know your thoughts on the LaNeige Lip Sleeping Mask! It's my go-to, but I'd love to know if it's actually good and clean-ish (especially since its going on the lips).
I got this in my ipsy bag once I loved it because one thing I'm scared of is braking out and this didn't. I woke up in the morning and my skin was always super soft.
Wait Kenna... Did you say you HAD your own skincare line? I must've missed it but what happened to it? I thought it was a wonderful concept with the special ingredients 🥺
I just love your channel!! 👏I was wondering about this product and waiting for reviews. I plan on picking this up based on your recommendation. I know how thorough you are when analyzing a product formula. ☺️☺️
As I just watched your Hyaluronic acid video- here you seem not to be bothered by sodium hyaluronate which correct me if I'm wrong, is a lower molecular weight than HA. I'd love some clarity around what forms or derivatives of HA are a problematic molecular weight (in terms of the inflammation correlations you cited in your previous video) and what forms don't pose that risk. Thanks for any additional info you can give!
Hi Kenna, could you explain how you incorporate this into your evening skincare routine? Do you use it alone, as a final layer to your skincare, or underneath other products? I always thought this wouldn't be hydrating enough for my dry/eczema-prone skin because it's a gel but your review is making me consider giving this a shot.
I use it on its own after cleansing! I don't follow up with anything else. In my extremely dry areas I layer it on twice (around the mouth and cheeks).
So many science based people say that silicones can’t break you out, but the fact of the matter is that some silicone-heavy products do break me out, especially some specific foundations. Could it be the type of silicone? Thanks for this review!
There are a ton of different types of silicones, some of which are harder to remove and can be left on the skin. It could also be other ingredients in the foundations that are contributing to this issue!
Kenna! Keep doing what you're doing, your videos are awesome and I really enjoy watching them. I love this mask, I purchased recently and love how hydrating it is for my dry skin. I am wondering where I can find your #sciencebabes merch. I have seen you wear it and I'm loving the designs. Saying hi from Ottawa and sending good vibes your way 💕
Thank you for these videos, they're so helpful! Would you recommend this for people using retinoids? I noticed the vitamin C which makes me wonder if it'd be ok to just use it at a different time of day than the retinoid, or if it's best to choose one or the other. Edit: your 5 common skincare mistakes video answered this for me ^_^ Looks like different times is the way to go. Thanks!
OMG Just yesterday I requested this on your Best Cleanser video, feeling lucky today!!! Could you please make this a series? Sunscreen, Serum, Toners, Essences etc.... Thanks so much
I have not tried the lip mask! I am not a huge lip-product person I just stick to a balm and try to keep myself hydrated with lots of water throughout the day!
Thank you for the video, so helpful 💖😀. I got the water series travel pouch of this brand from a friend, which contained a face wash (foaming), water bank toner, water bank serum, water bank moisturizer and this water bank sleeping mask, it lasted more that 2 weeks, the toner and the sleeping mask lasted much much longer than that. They were the best ever products I used for treating winter dryness for facial skin. Every single product felt amazing, this mask included. I do have a question though : in given instructions for the sleeping mask is to use twice a week where as you are comfortable to use it everyday as you mentioned. Is it really fine to use it everyday though? I mean since it's a mask or since the instructions read to use it twice a week, could it be any trouble at all using it everyday? Thank you for your time! :))
After looking through the ingredients there is nothing in there that could be damaging if over used. I think they market it as a treatment rather than daily product perhaps to not compete with other products in their line but it is essentially a very hydrating moisturizer and is safe for daily use!
@@KennaWhitnell thank you Kenna, extremely helpful :)) thank you for doing this, it helps us all greatly, looking forward to so much more that you will create!! ♥️♥️
Hey, that's the best review out there for this product . I love my skin the next morning. Can you please suggest whether to use it daily or twice a week as mentioned in their instructions
Hey Kenna, Thanks for the review❤️. On their website it says to use it just about 2-3 times a week? So is it okay for everyday use? And would you recommend this for the day time.
I wear it everyday and no issues! There’s no ingredients that wouldn’t be ok for everyday use. Sometimes I do wear it during the day - again no issues there :)
Will you do a review on Biosance please? 😄 They don’t use fragrance and they just came out with a water cream like that one I think but without fragrance 💙
Can you please talk a bit about retinal? Is it something that should be used everyday? Lots of youtubers are talking about retinal and Id like to know if it is needed in skincare? Thanks x
I'm surprised this is approved considering how highly scented it is I will definitely keep using. I love it but thought fragrance was bad How do you feel about their moisture bank cream?
Beautypedia has this to say, and it's all rooted in published science. I'm so confused on how you can promote this product as a scientist. "Whether or not you're a fan of the scent, the fact that this mask is strongly fragranced means it's putting skin at risk for inflammation, both on the surface and below the surface (see More Info). How's that for revitalizing?! "Ironically, even some of the hero ingredients Laneige calls out in the claims, such as orange flower, rose, and sandalwood, are known skin irritants. Interestingly, however, those don't actually show up on the ingredient list. We can only guess that perhaps those ingredients contribute to the fragrance (although even then they should be listed by their plant extract name), or perhaps Laneige used a synthetic blend that smells like those plants. Either way, the fragrance factor isn't good news for skin! "Further complicating matters, Water Sleeping Mask comes in a jar, which allows the beneficial ingredients (such as antioxidants) to break down more rapidly, including the highly extolled apricot extract. (See More Info for a deeper discussion on why it's best to avoid jar packaging.) "The fact that this mask contains several water-binding agents to help skin retain moisture adds a tiny bit of redeeming value, but because those good ingredients have to fight against the detrimental effects of the bad ones, the merit is lost. Likewise, even though the cooling gel texture of this mask may feel therapeutic on skin, what it's doing below the surface is anything but."
I have spoken about packaging and fragrance in previous videos. I do mention in this video jar packaging is not my favourite but when treated carefully it is manageable. Fragrance is a personal choice and if you need to avoid it, you probably know that! It is an oversimplification to say that known skin irritants are irritating. For example alcohol is extremely irritating when used at high concentrations in extremely low concentrations it can help active ingredients penetrate into the skin better. It's not as black and white as "free-from" marketing makes it out to be. Formulation chemistry and toxicology can not be simplified to studies where ingredients are tested at 100% repeatedly to look for irritation. In this video I run through the ingredients, the known uses and you can make the decision whether this is right for you or not.
@@KennaWhitnell Interesting. My understanding was that fragrance is tolerated differently by different people, but that it's still damaging pore lining behind the scenes, even if you tolerate it well. I'll go find your video about jar packaging, too, because I didn't know it could be managed in a way that kept antioxidants stable (I'm still skeptical of that, if I'm honest). Thanks for the response.
Wow that was a great informative video ... I’ve been trying to find a great cream/gel for my dry tired aging face and this one sounds spot on, I don’t really care if there’s a little fragrant in it, as you said, its that far down the list, it really wouldn’t do any damage at all ...
Hey Kenna, i Luv that u show on thé screen thé list of the ingredients and explain us what does it mean
Thanks!
Hi, Kenna. Can you do a hada labo review, pleaseee 😭😭😭
Spoonie Girl omg I love hada labo! I use their face wash and cream 🥰
@@browneyedgirl1542 Is it good?what cream do you use, the hydrating gel or which one?
You’re supposed to use this as the final step in your routine (after moisturizer) and you can use it as a primer too!
OMG Just yesterday I requested this on your Best Cleanser video, feeling lucky today!!! Could you please make this a series? Sunscreen, Serum, Toners, Essences etc.... Thanks so much
I have been wanting to try that mask and that webstore for a looong time. Perhaps time to make the jump.
Did you like their lipmask?
I have not tried the lip mask! I am not a huge lip-product person I just stick to a balm and try to keep myself hydrated with lots of water throughout the day!
the lipmask is ok. it doesn't do anything revolutionary and i much prefer the Bite beauty lip balm.
Hi kenna!! How do you feel about dr bronners castile soap?
I’m going to be trying this! My skin needs hydration! Thank you for the very informative video ☺️
Hey, that's the best review out there for this product . I love my skin the next morning. Can you please suggest whether to use it daily or twice a week as mentioned in their instructions
Began great but the fragrance killed it for me. It makes eczema flare up on my skin, especially my face😔
it mentioned on the packaging to only use it once a week, is there a reason for that? i know you mentioned in the video you use it every night
This stuff is essentially a jar of hydrating perfume. VERY strong scent if you're at all sensitive. And potentially sensitizing if you're not.
Yep! That's a fantastic product!
I really enjoy your videos!
@@KennaWhitnell Thanks so much for you response ☺️ Im definitely gonna buy it. Sending my best regards from India. keep being awesome
Will you do a review on Biosance please? 😄 They don’t use fragrance and they just came out with a water cream like that one I think but without fragrance 💙
Definitely interested in trying it out!!!
Can you please talk a bit about retinal? Is it something that should be used everyday? Lots of youtubers are talking about retinal and Id like to know if it is needed in skincare? Thanks x
can you review 'hakone's q10 mineral water cream' please. it feels bizarrely amazing but it kind of weeps water which i'm wondering if its a gimmick?
I'm wary of this. I know these ingredients aren't in high concentrations, but the alcohol, fragrance, and dye listed at the end bothers me.
Totally is a personal decision whether those ingredients are OK with you!
I think you're amazing! So glad I found you!! 💕
hi Kenna! I love your videos and was wondering if you could talk about fungal acne in a future video. 💙
You look gorgeous! I use the lip sleeping mask all the time and recommended it in my videos
I just looked this up and they also have one with lavender. Do you recommend that?
brb gonna go order this, sounds exactly like what i've been looking for!! and your shirts so cute😏
They got anti age Time Freeze Sleeping mask. Is it great too?
I'm surprised this is approved considering how highly scented it is I will definitely keep using. I love it but thought fragrance was bad
How do you feel about their moisture bank cream?
(See More Info for a deeper discussion on why it's best to avoid jar packaging.)
"The fact that this mask contains several water-binding agents to help skin retain moisture adds a tiny bit of redeeming value, but because those good ingredients have to fight against the detrimental effects of the bad ones, the merit is lost. Likewise, even though the cooling gel texture of this mask may feel therapeutic on skin, what it's doing below the surface is anything but."
Wooow now I'm really confused. I was wondering if the price tag is worthy,, thanks for the info.
Can you please explain silicone in hair oils/products? Ok or not ok?
Wow that was a great informative video ... I’ve been trying to find a great cream/gel for my dry tired aging face and this one sounds spot on, I don’t really care if there’s a little fragrant in it, as you said, its that far down the list, it really wouldn’t do any damage at all ... So in saying that I’m onto this one Kenna 👍🏼 Thank you for sharing this video.
I need one of those T Shirts, are they available for purchase Kenna ?
#sciencebabe right here 💕🌺💕

Kenna wooooow I hope you have bigggg sizes 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 I’d proudly wear one of those Kenna. 💜
My face is so dry, im going to try this. Thank you
Hi! can you please recommend a good eye cream that is safe? i have long lower lashes and alt of times product get in my eyes bc they get picked up by my eyelashes >.
Is this better than the hydra boost neutragena cream? (I'm a lady on a budget)
I'm wondering what you think about using Aloe Vera gel for this purpose?
You would want to also add in some emollient ingredients to lock in the moisture such as a facial oil or squalane oil!
Just curious do you use this product alone or do you use it in conjunction with other skincare (eye cream, toners, serums etc.) each night?
I use the product alone at night! Just on bare skin after cleansing.
that's a really cool eye look! You sort of remind me of Shalene Woodley :D
