You know it's funny or cool or whatever for a while. Then you realize it's just a guy who can't get a girl, barely makes rent, and spends all his money on booze.
When it's someone like Jeff Bridges (young) it's appealing, but when they get into their 50's, 60's, 70's and still living the same lifestyle it's just sad.
My home town is full of "cool" people who do the same shit every single weekend. You end up working in a factory your entire life and never seeing the world.
I would say that Mr. Dowd has accomplished more in his life and seen more of the real world than the vast majority of folks that you might consider successful.

It's all about moderation. If you go through life with a "fuck it" attitude all the time, you'll be a lonely and poor son of a bitch for your whole life. However, it's actually beneficial to go through life with a "fuck it" attitude towards things that you can't control.

I like this Dude. Certainly not as much as Bridges' Dude, but I gotta hold respect for him. He can provide a good amount of energy when he feels it and otherwise could care less about the world around him now.
The real 'Dude' seems like Donnie, Walter, Maude, and the Dude all mixed into one.

I got to perform on the 3rd Annual "Chromic-Con" with Dowd and Peterson last year. The Dude was the guest of honor (It was his Birthday). He's actually a super nice guy, and very entertaining with his stories....like how he once dropped acid with Bob Hope out in Twenty-Nine Palms!
