@@quentinultramegadroiteradi7345 It's just so non-meta that it's funny. Conventional wisdom dictates wg asap.
With these builds you never need the gateways, so you don't need warp gate. That fifty gas is huge in how fast you get void rays.

I've always thought that for a guy who has dedicated himself to cannon rushing, PrintF is an incredibly likable and decent person.
Watch his 7-partite tutorial where he makes CR out to be a science - whereas there's nothing new after a couple of details he stretches over the the 1st and the 2nd part - and keeps on rambling about how dumb his opponents are. This guy has issues.

Its pretty cool of PrintF it explain how to completely wreck his play style so well.
I think he's willing to do it because you need micro that people in his mmr range don't have. He even briefly mentioned it, that at his mmr he waits for someone to slip up. So even if you know exactly what to do one mistake and he wins. Really interesting video, and props to printf.

This was so cool to watch the learning process. Lots of laughing and humility. Printf comes at the game from a totally different perspective, I really appreciated listening to the dissections of the game and how you took the information and adapted. TY this was fun.
I love the idea of that mini series. You could call it "The Captain's Cannons" or something cheesy like that. Maybe you make an MMR goal for yourself to reach by only cannon rushing on one of your lower ranked accounts.

Good stuff! There was one glaring mistake that was very strange during your Death Aura games - if you've gone reactive forge like you did and kill the high ground probe, you can just hold the ramp with your first cannon by placing it on the not-cannoned side of the ramp (print's low ground cannon doesn't reach it and his first pylon doesn't allow him to build a cannon where it could - this is the fatal weakness of starting on the ramp). The way you place your first cannon actually doesn't achieve anything (it doesn't hold ramp, and it doesn't deny high ground cannons as you saw in the first few games), and so you end up having to waste a chrono (= 10s slower SG unit) and a stalker (50 gas is especially relevant) to achieve what the first cannon should have done. This change alone would put your stargate ahead by such a large margin that your first unit out of the SG could be an oracle that wipes Print's mineral line (or at any rate deny his gas mining for his own SG units) and end the game. Or just get ahead by a voidray and win in the head on engagement (especially with a super battery reaching so far into the nat). Print's first pylon there is the 'pub-stomper' which kind of says 'you won't be able to kill this high ground probe so I win' which against higher level players is definitely not as good as just starting low ground on this map. Pylon/Gateway/1st gas scouting to deny the one good low ground spot is the cheapest non-meta way of ensuring not insta-dying on Death Aura.

Yeah I generally don't think you can often get away with high ground on this map vs a really good player, and thankfully you don't need to per say. Also nice to see your face around here grimmy.
I like how the first void vs void, it looks like harstem can't ever do anything to win and then the next game it looked like it's impossible for printf to win.

It should be mentioned that, unlike stated pretty much everywhere, *4 workers are not enough to kill a warping pylon before it finishes* . It's 5 if they are there right the second it's warped in, so most of the time it's *6 per pylon* ! Note that Harstem, here, talks about pulling 12 probes against a 3 pylon wall - not enough at all.
Btw, only 3 probes are needed to kill a cannon before it goes live (4 if you're late).
Wow this is such an important video for any Starcraft player. This is probably the most educational video I've ever seen on Starcraft, so thorough from the professor of cannon rushing. Every starcraft player needs to see this! You guys are the best for sharing this information with us, 10/10.

No joke, I watched this and the first game I jumped into I got cannon rushed on Becket. I didn't panic-I got a defensive cannon on high ground, took my gasses, built a couple voids, and walked through my opponent. This video was insanely helpful, thanks!

In a tournament, (the sea duckling one, bronze - diamond) got to the semi finals and I look at my next opponent's match history and see that he is a cannon rusher. Most effective way to beat cannon rush.
9 pylon scout.
If you see forge (or any other shady build), take both of your gas, build your 2nd pylon with your scouting probe and rush a voidray to their base. You will win 99% of games.

In the second two games- you micro'ed the stalker away from the ramp... like 20 times! You allowed that probe to run up the ramp and reveal your high ground to the cannon, so much damage could have been prevented by just "hold" position of the stalker at the top of the ramp!!!!!

Game 2 definitely had some opportunities for a warcraft 3 style surround on the probe, that actually shuts down cannon rushes quite often on my games.
i didn't expected u didn't know to never push more than 4 probes on pylone or canon for this cheese build. Seeing u with all your probe losting time and eco to not destroy the probe inbase and the pylone inbase was very surprising. That's why I always build my 1st pylone and gate near the ramp in order to wall in case of cannon rush.
Lol, using that building placement will get you crushed by a decent cannon rusher. Proves you are in a low league :)
@@codyheiner3636 of course im in lower guild , im not gm: that's the point! Every decent players knows the 4 probes/building and have a sight on ramp, that's the basis on this cheese. Harstem didn't do this on the 1st parties, it was surprising. He did that since the 3rd party. It's like he's searching or experimenting that while as gm he should already knows that.

That game three you were not nearly aggressive enough with your void rays. You had a lot of shield batteries, you could afford to take some shots before you backed off

I know I would do it a lot worse, but it was pretty hilarious watching you repeatedly use 6-8 probes to chase around one probe.

Back in the day, the spawning pool was 150 minerals, and every zerg player was opening 6 lings, the 50 minerals expense changed all that. But since SC 1.0 they dont seem to mind nerfing this stupidity. It even became stronger with the addition of starting with more probes. Sick and fun killing (cheeses should be prevented by Blizzard).
Nice series. Maybe Harstem could optimize a bit by: 1. After getting a cannon, build a fast shield battery near the ramp to quickly use offensive battery overcharge, 2. In case of many voids, make one oracle to harass his base and force a recall if you can't attack low ground, 3. Make only three shield batteries for the void ray battle?
An oracle seems like a poor idea. The game is completely decided by gas as printf explained, and by going oracle you're investing gas into something that can be countered by minerals.
@@codyheiner3636 Well, building a pylon and a cannon at the gas takes a very long time. If he doesn't recall a void, Harstem could snipe a lot of the probes and stop all of the mining. Even before the recall finalises Harstem can probably kill several gas mining probes. The opponent might not even have recall due to chrono boosting.

Imagine how much better printf would be if he smerfed and people couldn't blind counter him.
In the first two games it is very clear that Harstems miro of the probes is lacking. To be more precise: he should lead the probes much more; while they can't overhaul the other probe... & probes react slowly/ with lag. So always try to do the pincher move (2 sides).

Since this I've won every canon rush thrown at me ( ~3300MMR don't expect this reaction at all). I used to win most of them still with immo + batteries but it's just so efficient to be able to defend and then send the void Ray's straight up to the main, no need to deal with a stupid canon battery full wall

Most cannon rushed are "all-in". I always have a probe outside and if I see a cannon rush, I build a 2nd base, pretend I am panicking, and then recall all my probes to the new base. The cheeser never has a follow-up planned and I can whack his base with a couple of zealots.

When I successfully defended the rush recently, I flamed the player for cheesing me though we became friends after. You can even use your opponent's gateway as part of a wall for a cannon rush.

I think Harmtem chased with too many probes throughout the sessions. I think for a diamond and below player, you could follow set probe chase and building destruction counts. 2 probes on the worker at all times, 3 probes on each turret/pylon without worrying about too much micro, other than keeping those numbers consistent once things are killed, and getting probes back on the mineral line/gas.

wouldn't rushing cannons as a defensive measure beat an offensive cannon rush?
If both players rush a forge, the defending player is greatly favored, this video explains it th-cam.com/video/PMSDkZ0bEwY/w-d-xo.html . However, if you were to rush a forge without making use of it to cannon rush the opponent, you get behind in case they opened with a macro focused build order.
