- Sun political columnist Brian Lilley talks with Toronto City Councillor Brad Bradford about a colleague on council levelling accusations of racism towards him when he asked about the cost and process of the renaming of Yonge-Dundas Square to Sankofa Square.

All true. What many people fail to remember about Shelley Carrol is that she had a known violent activist assistant, one Leah Henderson, who did time in prison. Carrol also quit to run for Provincial politics, but lost and then scampered back to City Hall. For that I blame the people who voted her back in. It is though most people just vote based on name recognition. Ya, I have heard her in public trash mouth and all. She is the last person to accuse anyone of anything. But that is how it is now with the our elected misrepresentatives. When they lose the argument they will just call you a racist. Socrates was right.

Money IS an issue. A big one. When the mayor spends her days complaining that the city is broke and begging the province and feds for money, a million bucks could have been far better used for something that is actually needed.
Chow is like a parrot with one line: "we need the province and the feds to give me more money......" That's basically all she ever says.

The city's own mandate for existing limits "helping the people" to providing better and more efficient roads and mass transit, reducing crime by funding a police force, preventing and fighting fires by adequately funding a fire dept., providing a tax environment that promotes business operating in the city, providing services that the people need. IT DOES NOT INCLUDE funding drug programs, homeless programs, affordable housing programs, health programs, social welfare programs or any program designed to redistribute wealth. THOSE PROGRAMS are the mandate and responsibility of the FEDERAL and the PROVINCIAL governments. The city's involvement with those type of programs is only supposed to be limited to administering them on behalf of the two other levels of government. The city should not be financially contributing to any of those programs. However, present and past socialist councilors and mayors have built a financial top up to these programs, which is now approaching $2 billion of homeowner's taxes. The city has to get out of the social welfare game.
What a waste of taxpayer dollars and a moronic name that conjures up thoughts of coffee.

I saw some of the presentation of the petition and it was beyond infuriating. I am in Brad Bradford’s riding. He has got it right. No-one wanted this except the knuckleheads at City Hall.

As Torontonians were NEVER CONSULTED about the name change of Yonge-Dundas Square - and a 30,000 signatures Petition against changing the name 2as ignored and ridiculed - so clearly Torontonians are NOT BEING LISTENED TO BY THIS CITY COUNCIL.

They clearly had zero interest in listening to how >70% of Toronto voters feel (we don't want it). The saddest part is where else this money could have been put to practical use. Housing, repairs or food programs.

Lots of people with mental health issues seem to be put into positions of power. What the hell is going on? So many people who can’t keep their heads on straight. It becomes a ridiculous goal that doesn’t serve any real purpose in our lives today. Let’s talk about getting more doctors, getting support for business, get food prices down, not renaming a street.
I think the problem is the overwhelming number of sanctimonious activists elected into office. Activists don't care about the boring, hard work of keeping things functioning and the unglamorous work of taking care of if people. They want to advance their pet ideology, get accolades for splashy pointless bs and lots of social media likes so they can keep on living the dream...their dream.

Since John Tory, these councils have been wasting tax dollars on these ridiculous renamings, removing statues, renaming of subway lines as well as some of the stupidest things such as bike paths on roadways thus shrinking those roadways, lower the speed limit and rainbow crap. Deal with the actual infrastructure issues, homeless issues, crime issues and enforcing laws on cyclists and pedestrians. Yeesh!

With John Tory, we got not only the killing of transit projects such as subways, but money missing, blown budgets, the war on the car, ignoring police studies results and then of course the whole rainbow thing including little boys. So far, Olivia Chow has not sat for an under age striptease of the same gender. Since the 1960s, the entire city, Metro Toronto later amalgamated, has had nothing but garbage NDP and Liberals on council and as mayor. But John Tory was the worst, until Chow revs up her agendas, other than taxation extreme.

I hear Carroll on 1010 every week, she is a moron who doesn't say anything at all. Dundas st runs into Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington and Hamilton. None of those cities have any plans to rename it. They have more competent city councils.
Ford should cut the city off until they get their act together.

I have seen this many times in different countries, it is what socialists / Marxists do it.
Take every one by surprise with their intent, force it threw the system (in this case call those that resist "Racist"), tell everyone it will cost nothing.
One town I know in Africa, they changed it from a white man name, black people still call it the white man name 20 year later, that shows the blacks in that town have no issue with the white man name. If you are a foreigner visiting, you will call it what the locals do not call it.
