God political campaigns should not be allowed to be longer than 2 months. How is the incumbent supoosed to do their job when they spend 60 hours a week campaigning for 6 months? You elect someone in november, they dont start until january and then they start campaiging for re-election by the may at the end of their term?
The problem is, we don’t have laws limiting that or how much you spend like the United Kingdom has for example example that keep the campaigns shorter. Also, both parties are so used to this longer election cycle and the United States is so much bigger so it takes more time to go everywhere for both parties to campaign, including the primary process that takes forever and takes fundraising, that I don’t think that will ever happen. The United States is just a bigger country so we need more time to get everywhere for both candidates.
The campaigning for primaries even starts much earlier, like summer of the year before the election. Most incumbent presidents don't have to worry about that, so it will mostly be other people with other jobs funding themselves, but if it was say a vice president running after serving a 2 term president, then they would basically be campaigning while being vice president, getting a decent portion of the travel expenses paid for by the government, for up to a year and a half. They likely won't have to campaign nearly as much as they would in the final few months, but right before the primaries, they would be flying all around and campaigning just as much, and travelling potentially even more.
the thing is, how do you classify something as a political campaign? even if you make a law preventing early campaigns, who's to say that an electee running high profile charity and volunteering options prior to campaign time isn't out campaigning for themselves, just under a different name. a law limiting campaign length wouldn't help, because parties would just put on displays under different premises, with the same end goal.

I love all of Sam's content and have great respect for the research that goes into it, and the legal/technical elements are obviously highly important. But there's a degree to which I feel political campaigns can be overcomplicated sometimes. Ultimately it's about being more popular than the other candidate in exactly the right places.
As a presidential campaign junkie every four years, found this to be a fascinating, behind-the-scenes feature about campaigns never talked about in traditional media coverage. Thank you!

You can thank the Electoral College for that. :)
If you don't live in a swing state, your vote is so worthless to the presidential race, that there's more value in paying to ask you for more money that can be spent elsewhere than there is in asking you to vote.
Edit: That said, still make sure you're registered to vote. It's your duty, not just something to do if you feel inspired.

don't kid yourselves. marketing professionals will be studying the biden to harris transition for _centuries._ in terms of branding and iconography, the harris campaign was the quintessential perfect storm. they didn't have time to mess it up, and as a result, it's inspiring in its overwhelming simplicity. blunt without being brutal. inclusive without being descriptive. perfect as a stone in a pathway. completely new like it had always been there.
really, if you understand project management at all, the entire biden harris transition was just beautiful. you really love to watch these kinds of plans execute. it's really something special when it works.

I’m right.
@benjaminjones8782 I agree with you about Bush 43, who was notorious for his light work days - even so, the stress of the responsibility of his work as president generated the premature graying and aging that affect most presidents.
Unlike Bush 43, Bush 41, Obama and Clinton were known for diving into the details of policy.
Trump was notorious for refusing daily security briefings, and for lightening his workload by asserting that he doesn't need briefing or prep because he already knows everything.

That's essentially what the trump campaign is doing. Tens of millions are unaccounted for in their spending and millions are being paid to companies controlled by the trump family for apparently no benefit to the campaign.
