Hearing that sound of an 87 humming around at euston and crewe is strangely nostalgic even though i was born after the last 87 was retired with virgin trains
The infamous hoover sound of the 86s and 87s. Loved the sight of these as a kid whenever spotting at Wolverhampton, Birmingham NS or Crewe. Shame the majority have been scrapped or exported to Hungary and Bulgaria 🇭🇺 🇧🇬
I was a Trackman for BR from 91-93. I ended up being a PICOW. I remember some great train names. Goliath, Phoenix, Sir Clywd & the county of Clywd.. wish I could find a list coz I know I've forgotten some.. 86's, 87's, 90's and I think 92's ? I left in 1993 after our Ganger got taken out on the up fast....
Many, many happy day returns from Stafford to Euston in the late 80s behind 87s. Always almost full trains on the outbound, virtually empty on the return by the time I was aboard. Never cancelled and always on time.

Look on the bright side: 87002, 87401, 87101 and 86259 are preserved in operational condition- and 87001 and 87035 are non operationally preserved
also some class 86s went to Hungary as well as Bulgaria.
86/87 my favourite electric locomotives. Give me one of these beauty’s over any pendolino on WcMl
So many memories of these (plus 86s and 85s) lined up at the buffer stops at Euston. I used to love hearing them humming to themselves!

Excellent Kevo, only about three left of the 87's.👍

Good collection Kev :)
Looks like 87002 and 035 are the only survivors and 87002 is the only one still here on the mainline
87001 is at York.
Nice collection
To paraphrase the motto of the USAF . "No Pendolino comes close".
For those that don’t know royal sovereign ering s also a lighthouse.

This must be an old video cuz whe see a pendolino with still the virgin livery.
Did the 87 take the sleeper all the way up to Scotland?
