This is why Marvel vs. Capcom 1 had theme song for every character whereas Marvel vs. Capcom 2 doesn't and only use generic tracks for each stages. Reason for that was cause there were just no way they would be able to afford 56 songs for all 56 characters in MvC2.

Not only that Capcom took a lot of pages from SNK and just make that game a dream match title with night, day, and dusk stages meaning it had no story or the story that did happen in Alpha 1 is not canon. This is why it carried the subtitle, Warriors' Dreams and why characters shared stages. They even had 2-on-1 battle (Dramatic Battle) similar to the first Fatal Fury game and even include a joke character (Dan Hibiki) poking fun at Art of Fighting. Like KOF, Street Fighter Alpha also include characters from their other game in the same universe such as Sodom and Guy from Final Fight similar to how KOF include characters from two series in the same universe: Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting. If you put all these stuffs together you know that Capcom was trying to go against KOF at the time.
