Absolutely a great video. I appreciate all of your reviews on your boat. I am seriously considering one of these based on the incredible seaworthiness you have shown using this in everything from skinny water to offshore. I was born and raised about 100 hundred miles south of you, so I know the fishing and the variety of water you encounter and appreciate what you do.
@@NorthFloridaSaltwaterFishingI have a 2022 Wellcraft 162 man I'm telling you guys think you have to have a big boat but the smaller boats are just as good and better on gas😂
I absolutely agree. The only thing my boat can't do is take me out far enough for Wahoo, Tuna and Mahi. I like to charter a trip or two a year to reach out and catch those. That is a lot cheaper than paying the big boat payment and fuel. I love to kingfish and my boat is perfect for that and I can go all day for less than $20 😁
@@NorthFloridaSaltwaterFishing - Agreed. I would rather have a small boat with low costs and more days on the water than a big boat with big gas bills. I can catch bigger fish inshore than a lot of offshore guys catch and spend 1/10th of what they do on gas, bait, and time. Well played sir and well said. 😏
@@NorthFloridaSaltwaterFishing sad thing is most big brand boat company know this and have stop making smaller boats Wellcraft stop making the 16-18 trying to make people go bigger really sad for the company because they are going to lose more business than they are trying to make
Awesome video, Great perspective. I'm Running a 2016 258 DLV and its a great boat, it can be a little wet if you don't know how to drive but all boats can, and its a little rough of a ride but you cannot beat the bang for the buck. I can scuba dive or fish 30 miles out and come back and fish in 2 foot of water, not to mention pull it from north Alabama to the keys with a 2015 Tundra no problem. Thank you for the real world review!
Hey Shawn. I love all of the extensive reviews you’ve done on the 162 JLS. Your reviews made the decision pretty easy for me and I was fortunate enough to get one gently used for a song on FB marketplace. I just have a couple of questions. First, did you opt for a SS prop? If so, what brand, size and pitch did you go with? I also have the Suzuki BF90A. Secondly, how much did Waylan Bay charge for the hydraulic steering and Lenco trim tabs. I’m also in St Johns Co. Mine leans a little to port, which I’m sure is the offset fuel tank. It’s also sluggish out of the hole so I’m sure the tabs and a SS prop will resolve those issues. Thanks again for the great videos. Be safe out there.
Hi, Thank you for watching. Yes, I opted for the SS prop. It is Solas 9431-133-17. The hydraulic steering was already installed on the boat so I don't know what that cost separately. The Lenco trim tabs were around $1000 installed if I remember correctly. I highly recommend trim tabs on the 162. They make all the difference in the world. The boat listing to port is 100% the fuel tank. You will never notice it once you get the trim tabs. They will also stop any porpoising and give you a much better hole shot. Load balancing and leaning away from weather are also benefits of having the trim tabs. I hope this helps. Congratulations on your new boat. Hopefully we meet out on the water. Tight lines 🎣
Thanks for the videos on the skiff. What size is your trolling motor shaft? I have the same boat and I’m trying to figure out what shaft size to get, 60” or the 72”. Thank you!
Thinking about picking up a 178 or a 192 depending on how good of a deal I can find. I wanna use it on the gulf coast of Florida crystal river area. If I pick my days right o think this is the boat that I can fish the flats and also head 10-15 miles out on the right days what do you think?
It would absolutely work for that. Like you mentioned, keep your eye on the weather and pick your days. I have had mine out as far as 20 miles and routinely fish inside 10 miles and I fish out of the 162 JLS. Tight lines 🤙 🎣
A 19' JLS should fit a family of four with two small children just fine. This obviously depends on what boating activities you are engaging in (fishing and what type or just out boating) and more importantly conditions. The JLS is a great gulf, near shore, beach boat in good conditions. I hope this helps. Tight lines 🎣
You handled that better than most guys on boats twice that size. Nicely done!
Thank you! I appreciate that.

i am considering getting this same skiff, now this helps seeing how it handled the spray and conditions! Thanks for sharing

Whats your opinion on a 19 jls for a family of 4, 2 young kids 4 & 6 for same area plus the gulf?
