      I feel bad for her birth parents too. I understand the ones abducted have their connection to this “other” family, but damn, have some consideration for the REAL parents who suffered, and are now STILL suffering. They were robbed of their child and the bond with that child. Being that Carlina is a mother, you would think that she would have a better understanding.

      @valenciaarnold6065 Just because they gave birth to her doesn't mean they will get along, blood isn't always thicker than water. Maybe she actually realises she gets on better with her kidnapper. Anyway she can't help how she feels, no one wins in this situation

    Couldn't finish the interview cause it was terrible but THESE COMMENTS. People, where's the compassion? I know my mom is my real mom, BUT if I went through what she went through, I would still be connected to my "fake" family. That "fake" family has been around her since she was 19 days old. HER WHOLE LIFE. Nobody knows if it was really the money, but has anybody considered that she was overwhelmed, mentally and emotionally exhausted? Show some compassion people.

    before Carlina realized the trust fund was gone she was talking to her biological mother about taking her trustfund money and moving closer to her and starting her life in the same town where Joy lived, then after her biological mother (Joy) told her the money was gone, she got upset and went back to the Pettway family. I believe her motives may have been for financial gain. She seems to be extremely selfish!

    • @San47di
      @San47di 9 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      I have to agree with you. If "money" makes you change your mind about wanting an association with your blood relatives, then perhaps you should continue to stay away from them .. maybe never should have contacted them in the 1st place. If nothing else, there is definitely a "character" flaw at work here. How can you resent an issue of money that you never had?? No amount of funds would make me want to distance myself from my family once I've found them. What?? Because your story has made headline News, all of a sudden this case is about "money?" Too sad!!

    • @San47di
      @San47di 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      sunny hoote Another thing... Now she's "Old News," a passing headline that went cold immediately following the story and that fly-by-night movie. What's she gonna do Now for money, and who's gonna give damn when the need arises? If her birth parents cut her off completely, I say, No Better for her! All she's doing is setting an example that her very own daughter will follow.

    • @ghoote92
      @ghoote92 9 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      San47di right, I just hated her attitude about it, like they didn't even know she was coming back to save the money , and the most important thing which is she was reunited with them went ignored

    • @Dawnswebdesigns
      @Dawnswebdesigns 9 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      I watched the movie. And towards the end she said it wasn't about the money. It was about the fact that her real parents didn't tell her it was gone. I don't know what they was supposed to do though. "Hi...we're your parents...& we had money saved up for you but for the last couple of years we've been spending it so it's gone now". I don't think they were hiding the fact that the money was gone. I think they were mind blown that their baby was finally found & money was the last thing on their minds.
      They're gonna need time & possibly pro help. Parents who lose a baby expect a baby to return to their home. But she's not a baby...she's an adult w/ her own home. And like Joy said towards the end...they've known her, loved her & dreamed about her for her whole life. Carlina didn't know they existed 'til 2011. They are strangers. There is no bond. They're gonna have to build one.

    Too many bad things in this interview from both sides. For one, why are they showing the radio hosts, but not the person being interviewed, we don't want to see the back of her head, that alone shows that low success rate of that station. Secondly, she was very dry and undetailed with her answers which led to a boring interview out of an interesting situation.

    I hope Carlina/Nedra is in a different place now. But to not understand how foul it is to steal someone else's child is mind boggling. She seemed to (at this time) have no concept that no matter what the reason, she was, in fact abducted.

    • @dray0720
      @dray0720 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Kiki Doll I so agree with you. The issue is we are looking from a mothers point of view, I definitely feel as thou this lady should have gotten 23 years no parole. Now what I do think is that this girl was raised by this woman was surrounded by her entire family, and at the time that's all she knew was them. She was not abused or mistreated, but the curiosity of her wanting to know who her biological parents are killed the cat. From what she said basically she just wanted to know where is was she came from and the way she said it, sounds like she didn't really care to have a relationship with them because she didn't want to betray her abducting family. I think she needs to put herself in the same mind frame "What if it had happened to her and her little girl"

  • @TakemeasIam79
    @TakemeasIam79 9 ปีที่แล้ว +53

    I hope Joy White knows that a nation mourns with her, not bc she lost her child once, but bc she lost her twice. I hope she has found peace after discovering her daughter is a ghetto, weed smoking idiot who would rather spend time with criminals and kidnappers over getting to know her real family. Carlina is a mother and by that alone, she should understand the devastation that comes along with someone stealing your damn child. That leads me to believe she is not a good mother. Carlina is sick and Joy has been through too much to have that sickness in her life. I hope she was able to find peace after discovering what she really lost.

    • @kittykat837

      I am not sure about the ghetto, idiot, weed smoking, love to be around criminals, and the possibility of not being a good mother, but I certainly agree with the other parts. The mom and dad has suffered tremendously. I cry listening to the stories of her, as I have binged watched them to catch up... My heart mourns. I wonder how things are now. I wonder if it has gotten better. I saw her briefly on Iyanla Fix My Life, and she looked great. She didnt speak much on the show. It was brief. I hopes she writes a book.

    I saw some comments about how can Carlina abandon her family and that she is selfish and so on. People should really look at the big picture here. Ann Pettway was wrong yes, Carlina';s parents went through hell yes, however, from Carlina's point of view, she cannot just turn her love on the family she has known. Like she said, it takes time. Carlina's real family want her to turn her back on the people that raised her Think of it, how can she turn her back on 23 years of her life to people she does not know. THey are trashing the one mother and only mother she has known so she is hurt about that. Ann Pettway was wrong and hurt a lot of people badly and should be punished deeply, but to Carlina, it would be difficult to see the person that raised her go through that. Carlina;s love is still there for Ann Pettway. The White family is just strangers to her right now.

  • @reneehicks4629

    I can’t understand how she feels but I know the feeling of meeting a biological parent as an adult. I didn’t meet my Father until I was 18 yrs old. I was raised by my Stepdad. I tired building a relationship with my biological Dad but it was difficult because we both had different expectations from the relationship. I went through different emotions that I didn’t know how to handle at such a young age. I didn’t know him or his side of the family they felt like strangers to me. I’m in my Fifties and I’m finally building a relationship with my Father’s side of the family. Unfortunately, my father passed away when I was about 26 yrs old and his death was sudden and unexpected. At the time of his death I was angry and not speaking to him over something stupid. I still regret that. I hope Carlina reads this. Don’t wait too long to speak to your biological parents because you never know what will happen in life.

    I could see why shes not angry, she was raised well. She wasnt mistreated and her life wasnt bad to the point she thinks about the grass on the other side. I feel for her cause all the family she knows as family isnt her blood. They are still her family tho. Thats why its worst for her real mother. Her mom was robbed as well. Now her mom is angry and always would be....

  • @timtobias3223
    @timtobias3223 9 ปีที่แล้ว +38

    Unfortunately,
    This interview is poorly conducted. Why are they asking her these inappropriate dry open-ended questions? I often say: most radio personalities are not skilled enough to conduct productive and positive interviews. This young lady's story is extremely important and has the potential to help other families, or individual who may be experiencing very similar and traumatic situations. Her inability to provide clear and accurate answers is a direct result of the interviewer's inability to conduct a good interview, as well as their lack of awareness of her capacity to answer certain questions. Carlina's story is worthy of an Oprah, Diane Sawyer, or even Wendy Williams' couch, no these clowns. Know when and how to explore and asked the right questions.....Just sayin!!!!!

    • @dray0720
      @dray0720 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Timothy Tobias honestly a question is a question you either answer it or you don't to me this girl is connected with the petway family, that really is the only family she has ever known, can you imagine the woman you've always know as mom telling you that she is not your real mother, then upon finding these real parents of yours, which are telling you not to go back to those people and to come live around them, which they were clearly different people. Where do you turn? Where do you go? It is an issue that truly cannot be fixed. To me it seems like Netty wants to be who she has known her self to be Nedra Nance. She even said I want to be called Netty although she is saying its in between Carlina and Nedra, Netty Is the nickname given to her my the abductor or her sister and she feels comfortable with that, and too me that's because that's what she was use to being called. She doesn't answer the questions directly I believe because she doesn't want to offend anyone. She is really close with her "aunt" ann petway sister so she is definitely not going to say anything remotely crazy about this womans sister. To me personally abduction is abduction she should get the maximum prison sentence because she pretty much screwed up the lives of the White family, the Tyson family, and her own family. Then she really in her diluted mind she thinks that her reason for stilling Carlina is justifiable.

    This Girl did NOT ask for the life she was given. I feel like she is turning to the family that raised her because their bond is a "family" bond. That is very understandable. BUT, I would DEFINITELY question that family because SOME of them HAD 2 know the TRUTH!!! They only lived a short distance away frm Carlina's bio parents & I'm sure it's was all over the news. 1 of them at least saw a pic of that missing baby & realized she was being raised by Ann. In Carlina's defense, family may do you wrng but that won't stop you from loving them. That can't break the bond she has had w/the people that raised her. I do feel, ESPECIALLY because she is now a mother herself, she should have more empathy toward her bio parents. She claims she just wanted to find out who they were so she will know who she is. That's very selfish. Not judging because she was raised by an EXTREMELY selfish female and I'm sure she feels like her bio parents didn't do enough to find her. BUT, Carlina really needs to look at the big picture & realize her bio parents had their BABY, their 1ST BORN STOLEN frm them. Come on!!! It takes a cold heart not to feel that!!!

      They probably didn’t think about it because the kidnapper was pregnant and never told anyone she had a miscarriage. So it wasn’t like she pop up with a baby.

    Reading the families Facebook pages, Carlina is definitely involved more with the #pettyway family and possibly not even her own biological family. Yeah she have a few of them added but she's in her own little world. I'm done with these people, smh.

    Her story is remarkable. I've watched the lifetime movie and all the interviews and news stories I could find. I just wish she was a little more articulate on the subject. I truly hope she is happy and can find herself. Going through such a drastic life change can take so much from you. I pray her and all her parents, Ann Petteway and her biological relatives all find peace and are able to forgive.

    If Carlina had a baby at 16... her new mother didn't do too well of a job raising her. Just in the way she speaks, you can tell she lacks education. I feel she may have had a better opportunity with her biological family for the simple fact they where not as selfish as the person who stole her. How can someone cause so much harm to another woman? If she experienced loss, and wanted a child she thought it ok to take another womans child herself??? There is no way a human being who is capable of that can raise a child right! Those are some messed up values, right there!!!

    The woman who kidnapped her is the only mother she's known. We have no idea of the kind is people our parents were before we came along. I met my bio family and I often feel caught between two worlds. My circumstances were a bit different than Carlina's/Nedra's, but I can empathize with a lot of what she's saying. It's a constant balancing act, and although her life wasn't perfect, we should have respect for the woman she knows as her mother.

    It's sad that Carlina left her biological mother just because all the money that was in a trust fund for her is gone. So she only wanted the money? That's so selfish!

  • @mone2diamonds
    @mone2diamonds 12 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The woman raised her for 23 years. She bonded with that lady and it is not easy to bond with someone you don't know including birth parents. She needs time and therapy to deal with this.

  • @YouReallyMadHuh
    @YouReallyMadHuh 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    This is definitely about money sad to say. I'm sure part of her IS indeed happy she found her real birth parents, but that's it. She don't care about them and she only reunited with them more likely and in my opinion after research is to see what they had to offer her financially. Them spending the trust fund money is not a big issue, that is petty. The money sat for sometime as they had hope she was coming home, but after having more children and bills they had to do what they had to do and I don't blame them. I know the latest is she tried to sue the city for $2 mil and lost. As a grown woman with a child of her own when that could've happened to her one would think she would understand her biological parents, especially mother more than she's willing too instead of making excuses for her kidnapper. The lady story is sad no doubt and I know it takes a toll on women who struggle to have kids but you don't take nobody baby either. You may see me on many post and that's because I just started following along a bit more and just disgusted. I can write a book about how I feel. I hate seeing a real good mother cry or any good woman, and what Carlina did is so wrong I will never forget this.

    "Joy White was asked about the $750,000 settlement she and Tyson received in an agreement with Harlem Hospital in the early '90s. The biological parents each took home about $163,000 and put the remaining $424,000 in a trust fund for Carlina -- should she be found by the age of 21"
    With that amount of money, it does not look like they used the money wisely. If they had invested it, the girl could see have had something. I don't know the level of education of the parents, people like Al Sharpton should be educating our people how to manage sudden money.

      wally tiger I agree but they didnt know she was coming back and money shouldn't be the motive when it comes to family..atleast it shouldnt have been her motive for getting close to her biological mother

    • @Dawnswebdesigns
      @Dawnswebdesigns 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As far as their education level...couldn't have been too high. At least mom was a teen...not sure about dad. Considering their age & education level I think they're awesome. The money was for them...their pain & suffering. The child wasn't suffering...she didn't even know. Others might've split this money 50-50 & blown it immediately. But they put most of it into an account & didn't touch it for almost 20 years.
      $750,000 ain't that much. Maybe they did invest it. Maybe the investments didn't work out.
      But the $10,000 reward money was offered by the state - not the parents. And since she solved her own case she should get that.
      And just cuz the $750,000 is gone don't mean it's over does it? Now that she's an adult can't she also sue the hospital? Plus there's the movie & interviews & such. She may not get rich but she should make enough to move near her parents & build a relationship w/ them...if she hasn't already. This story is 4 years old after all.

    By the way she knew #pettyway wasn't her real mom at age 16. So stop making it seem as if she didn't know until she was 23-years-old. Her and her kidnapping fake mother and other family who probably knew something, but was gossiping behind her back is all messy.

    I feel bad for the biological mother but Pettway raised Carlina, and that is the mother Carlina has always known. Carlina had a good childhood and her real mom should be happy to know that her baby was not harmed and loved. Carlina has every right to love Pettway and her family, they were and still are her family. Family is not always a matter of being blood-related. As a mother I would be so relieved to know, my baby was alive, and well taken care of despite my heartbreak; my baby's feelings come first. It is not about Joy, it is about Carlina. If Joy and her family can not get that, and feel the need to call Carlina out her name, Carlina should leave them all alone.
