Reading through the early comments I appreciate you all for being for good sports about this "not a review", I've had a good laugh reading through them. Thank you :)
Actually one of the better explanations I've seen for *why* the idler helps prevent pedal kickback. Looking forward to seeing you hit some crazy gaps on the new bike!
Phil, thank you for including the times you had trouble saying certain things. I am someone who has issues with speaking and it's very inspiring to see how successful you are despite speech difficulty with certain words and phrases. Love your content and enjoyed watching this not review.
Chain growth only pulls on the pedals at low speeds. I'm on Onyx Vespers also on a DW link bike. I like the chain growth on technical climbs because it keeps the bike from sinking into the travel, especially on ledge ups and going over boulders.
i got a kona process 153 2021 last fall and i am all set with down hill bike now, has serious travel and i can ride local trails, park and simple stuff with my OLD parents.(hope they see this comment) its jumps like a champ and handles those double black tech trails like a champ.
Every time I see Phil (or Noga, Wyn, Martin) nostalgia hits and I want to come back to GT bikes. My first two proper mountain bikes were GTs and I loved them. Nice notreview, Phil, I enjoyed it :)
Thx for going through the "extra wheel" I've wondered the purpose on other brands. Figured there had to be a reason, your explanation of travel makes sense to me. Thx for sharing
Im a little late to this party buuut I still want to say thank you for showing the travel of both bikes without the shock!1 That helped me understand it alot better!
The wheel colors were ordered before I had the bike in hand. I'm actually going to be redoing those decals and replacing them with a brighter color. I'm thinking yellow to continue with the blue/yellow theme I've had in the past.
Always been a GT fanboy, although haven't ridden one since the '90's. This one looks pretty bloody good and am very interested to see how it stacks up against the Norco Range. Love ya content Phil!
I think Phil was trying to tell us something in the beginning of the video...I get the vague impression that he was trying to tell us that this video is "not a review"? 😂😂 Good video Phil, I like the tiny little chain guide on the idler wheel!
Okay, I have to admit, I just got my first park bike, and it's a gt force carbon elite, and yes, seeing your partner ride one was an influence. Also, I got a good deal on it. Mountain Creek season pass here I come!
Hey Phil, if you want a long drop post with nearly no play in it, check out the bike yoke, 213mm drop and almost no play. Super super reliable too. (not sponsored)
I really dislike rear hubs that make a ton of noise - so annoying to hear in the woods! I'm glad you run silent hubs. It makes your videos more enjoyable.
Sorry, engineer here, gotta smartass a bit: The distance with the idler still changes, but only by a very small amount! To use your diagram: The distance A-C and C-B do not change, but the angle of the 2 lines does, which means the chain needs to loop around a bit less so the chain length gets shorter by that amount. Roughly the angle (in radians)* the radius of the idler wheel if I havent forgotten my basic geometry. Obviously since both the angle change and the radius of the idler are tiny, this won't make much of a difference, but you can actually see the pedal move during your demonstration cuz of this effect.
KISS: keep it stupid simple. Oversimplification helps illustrate complex concepts a bit more clearly without confusing people with extra details. Its not perfect, but it gets the main point across.
Switched from OneUp v2 210 to a Bike Yoke Revive 213 and couldn't be happier. Much smother and sturdier (besides annoying the OneUps kept having cartridge failures)
That's a sweet ride dude, GT have a real nice bit of hardware there - It reminds me of a Nukeproof Mega with the new goemetry of a Giga and a Deviate Cycles High Pivot design. Nice combo of Rockshox Fork with Fox Rear Shock 😲 some people will think that's a no, no ! but who cares, it works!
Man I want to take a enduro bike with at least 160mm in rear down maiden voyage, or Killington to see the difference from my bike.2021 Trek fuel ex 9.7 140mm front, 130mm rear. I did some upgrades that made a huge difference. I weigh 206. So I went from a stock .4 to a .8 volume spacer in rear, I was running 220 psi, now 205. Also put a 10cc volume spacer in fork, 110 psi to about 80 to 85. There's cush core front and back. What a massive difference those upgrades have made!!!
Nice looking bike👌 High idler? How does it affect climbing? No pedal kickback would mean it soaks up the power instead of fighting the suspension and propelling the bike forward wouldn't it? It must help suspension when pedaling through the rough. Pedal kickback isn't an issue unless the hub is engaged but. Noisy, Power robbing, Chainring wearing fad that I need to try.
Chain around a traditional drivetrain forms a triangle around the derailleur jockey wheel, cassette and BB, an added idler wheel changes the triangle into a parallelogram. When angles on a triangle change, the length of a side needs to change. When angles on a parallelogram change, lengths on all sides remain the same
"Instead of the flipchip design on their previous bikes they're going whit a wheel..... Wheel baay?? What is that called?" 😂😂 Love the editing of this "not reviewed bike" 😎🤙
phil going crazy with the edits this video
Straight up he snapped
Second grade Me when I discovered how to edit videos

Not in a great way imo.
And 2 minutes in I nearly left 🥴
I really enjoyed your review of this bike!

Please make a full powder ridge video
Yes please do that
Wait this isn’t a review?
You left an easter egg about potato salad in your last video
How is the bike at slower speeds
Great bike review. Thanks Phil.
Actually one of the better explanations I've seen for *why* the idler helps prevent pedal kickback. Looking forward to seeing you hit some crazy gaps on the new bike!
5:53 previous generation also less capable because it lacked a shock. Super smooth, just bottomed to easily.
A.O.S. IS FAR SUPERIOR.
To be honest, no interest in a new bike but just like the way Phil's videos roll, they're just so much fun, GT is lucky to have him.
Phil, thank you for including the times you had trouble saying certain things. I am someone who has issues with speaking and it's very inspiring to see how successful you are despite speech difficulty with certain words and phrases. Love your content and enjoyed watching this not review.
Awesome bike! Loved this review so much, thanks 😏
Thanks so much for the great review Phil it was very impartial
Oh man, so glad to find a review video of the next GT bike. Stoked to watch this!
/s
Point A for (B)ottom bracket and B for (A)xle... Yes, totally makes sense :D
Ahaha, that's actually funny. Good catch 😂
I only kind of understood the high-pivot game until this. Now it totally makes sense. Thanks Phil!
Thats why I'm here :)
Hey Phil, I really liked this bike review. Thanks for clarifying that it was indeed, a review
This video made me think of when I met phill in Whistler. Great video and hope you enjoy the new bike.
Chain growth only pulls on the pedals at low speeds. I'm on Onyx Vespers also on a DW link bike. I like the chain growth on technical climbs because it keeps the bike from sinking into the travel, especially on ledge ups and going over boulders.
Free speed
I really enjoyed this review, I'll be sure to take it into account when buying my bike.
That looks sick! Stoked to see and ride with you at Blue!
Best review of the bike ive heard so far.

Been on the last two versions of their Sensor model, and I'm still in love...the new geometry frames are truly game changers in the handling dept.
Very good explanations on the suspension designs and implementations. Thank you!!!!
Reviews like this are just great 👍
I feel you on the SRAM brake bleed process. Ugh. Fun video though. Thanks!
Nice video, awesome way to explain the idler pulley. I learned something from this one.
I love having the start/stops and re-shoots. Shows truly how it is making videos..
What a great way to start the day. Amazing bike review man. Great edits and stuff too. Loving it.
Thx for going through the "extra wheel" I've wondered the purpose on other brands. Figured there had to be a reason, your explanation of travel makes sense to me. Thx for sharing
I really enjoyed this video. It had some great editing and was really informative
this review was good, but i was really hoping for more Smokey footage. i wanted to hear her input on the idler position and chain growth
Im a little late to this party buuut I still want to say thank you for showing the travel of both bikes without the shock!1 That helped me understand it alot better!
The grey fork matches so well with these violet accents on your rims

@@SkillsWithPhil Ah, I see. Keep the legend alive :D
this bike is sick!!!! congrats i remember when u first got sponsored by gt!!
Best review I have viewed of this bike so far.
Dude, what a bike!
Always loved GT, always will!
I appreciate you explaining the idler. Good on you. Thanks.
Thanks for explaining what the idler pulley does, i've always wondered how it worked but i couldn't find much explanation on it.
Watching your videos has made me think hard about making GT my new bike brand!
Love the editing style...bloopers are great and make the (not a) review less advertisy
This edit was crazy fun! Made me wanna see the whole video even though I already seen the bike.
This review was sick
great review phil I love your opinion on this bike in your review video!!!
Um that is an awesome bike! All of the changes make sense, thanks to Phil's explanation.
That thing looks soooooo good!! Good work GT

This bike is making quite the buzz lately, now I want to try one!
Best review ever!! Thanks Phil!
Bestest video yet! You get tired of the zeb mail it to meh! Great job on edits too!
I think GT offers best bike right now in this segment, great value for money and awesome geometry specs.
1:51. Phil says aluminum and thinks to himself "nailed it!"
this review was sick!!!
So stoked to see you post videos again🤙🏻
Phil please make a full video of you riding at powder ridge!
They’re really going all out with the “Looks like a Session” thing
i have to say the hilarious editing made this video a lot easier to watch lol
What a great review!!!!
So cool when. They brought this bike out to my work
May the force be with you
Okay, I have to admit, I just got my first park bike, and it's a gt force carbon elite, and yes, seeing your partner ride one was an influence. Also, I got a good deal on it. Mountain Creek season pass here I come!
AS A FELLOW TH-camR, I RELATE TO THIS TOO MUCH LOL so many takes!
ayyyy, I saw those Powder Ridge clips too, cant wait for that video
Hey Phil, if you want a long drop post with nearly no play in it, check out the bike yoke, 213mm drop and almost no play. Super super reliable too. (not sponsored)
I'll look into that, I've never heard of them until today. Somebody else suggested it, but I trust your taste and the 3mm extra seals the deal! Haha
I remember Commencal had that third wheel on their enduro bike a few years ago. Seemed to work really good in theory.
still a size medium Phil? so glad to watch a new video from you! Congrats on the new bike!!
Ah yes I'm still running a medium!
@@SkillsWithPhil thanks man! excited for your riding video next week! cheers! 🤙🏼

As stated in the into i really enjoyed this review of the bike! Thanks
Nice review on this bike.
I see powder ridge in the video! Hoping that is the next riding video to hear your thoughts on the new little park that is trying so hard!
