  • Have you ever seen a glacier? Would you want to go inside a glacier (wait, is that even possible)? If you are taking a road trip along Iceland’s south coast road, keep driving west to the famous Vatnajökull Glacier! In this episode, we join Glacier Adventure on their Crystal Blue Ice Tour, to venture inside the glacier. Surrounded by the iconic blue ice, our kids learned about the history of prehistoric Iceland, saw firsthand the geological processes between rocks and ice, and learned how to walk in micro-spike crampons. We hiked 2km to the entrance of the glacier, then spent about an hour inside the blue ice cave. This will be an experience that our family will talk about for years. Don’t miss Iceland’s south coast road, which includes Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, the black beach and columnar basalt of Reynisfjara, Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, black Diamond Beach, and the Eyjafjallajökull, Sólheimajökul, and Vatnajökull glaciers.

This looks so much safer than the Katla ice cave. This tour was not available when I was there during May because the ice was melting. I had to do the Katla ice cave near Vik, with wooden planks across water rushing, many yards down, with no hand rails. I was a nervous wreck, but I had a great tour guide who held my hand. I called him "My Viking God"!

Hi! This is gorgeous! I am actually going to Iceland in October. Which tour did you book? There are so many on their site!

Hi! this looks amazing! My husband and I are going to Iceland in October. I just have a couple of questions if you don't mind. 1. I noticed you were all wearing masks, is that of your own choosing or were you require to? 2. At any point did the cave tour feel claustrophobic? I get a little nervous in small/tight spaces. I appreciate your insight! Thank you!

Awesome video! thanks for sharing. My husband, my son (6) and I are going at the end of June and we're doing this tour. What time of the year did you go? and what kind of clothing did you bring? Thanks for any insight!

Hi, could you please let me know if you managed to do this? We are going in June and from my research the only “cave” that we can see is Katla :-/

We simply explained the age range of our kids and the Forest would be in the baby carrier. Lucky, that let us come. It was a great experience. Did you check with the company that we went with? I believe there’s a link in the description.

Did you take the baby carrier with you or did they rent it out?
