Great video! I am a Canadian school teacher and lived (and taught) in Vietnam for a few years (Hanoi and Da Nang). I intend to retire to Vietnam but haven't decided exactly where yet - most likely Danang or Hoi An. The weather and scenery are fantastic and the people are wonderful. The food is great and the beaches are world-class. I've lived in eight countries including Mexico, Jordan, China, Malaysia, and the Dominican Republic, Vietnam beats them all in EVERY category, including cost of living and ease of travel. Great job, Tim and Fin ! Anyone considering a vacation in Mexico or Hawaii should definitely check out Vietnam first.
Hello Merritt. I am going to VN in November 2024, will stay three months hopefully, and decide if I want to retire. It's been a year now for your post. Could you please offer any information on how it has worked out, visa issues, etc. Thank you for your time. David Jones... I'll be on decent social security and VA disability benefits. :)
6:25 The nature of Ha Giang is magnificent and fascinating not only for foreigners but also for Vietnamese people. I'm very impressed that you travel by motorbike to both Sapa and Ha Giang, places that are so far from the cities. Wow!!
No Vietnam itinerary is complete without experiencing the warm hospitality of the locals. During my visit to Hoi An Memories Land, I was touched by the genuine friendliness of the staff and locals, adding a special touch to my trip.
I have been to Vietnam since 2015-2022 around 7 trips. I probably spent 5 months there in total duration. But it felt like you guys lived there watching your videos lol. I will be going to Vietnam tomorrow can’t wait.
I'd say Huế is so underrated!! The food scene there is incredible there, and the region around the city is gorgeous mountains and not touristy at all! But I'll keep saying that the most amazing place in Vietnam is Hà Giang!!! There's nothing like it up there!
hah we must have had some bad luck in Hue with food. I didn't mention in the video but I was almost in tears over one cold meal with so much fish sauce and vinegar I almost passed out but ate it because we were the only people in the small restaurant and the women kept coming over to see how we were doing 😂 still to this day the worst thing I've ever eaten! haha
TIM and FIN That sounds terrible! Must’ve had bad luck because Hue is known for it’s amazing food especially Bún bò Huế, which is a more spicy, flavorful and delicious noodle soup dish that’s arguably even better than Phở!
Hi guys, Love your videos on Vietnam North to South. My wife and I, we are in our late fifties early sixties, are travelling to Vietnam for the first time, after holidaying in Koh Samui Thailand for the past 9 years, in early June for 20 days, staying in Hanoi for a total of 4 nights then heading to Hoi An for a total of 15 nights. We have confirmed our stay in Hanoi, in between we are doing a 1 night, 2 day cruise to Bai Tu long bay, before heading to Hoi An. Since watching this video we have decided to split our stay in Hoi An into 5 nights in the old town area before our confirmed stay at the Sunrise Resort for our last 10 nights. There are many places to see and do and thanks to your video we are able to confirm things and places we had in mind to do and see to things and places we will be going to see and do. Again many thanks for the insight to Vietnam and keep up the good work.
Just came back from Phu quoc this holiday week. Phu Quoc is very much cleaner now. I didn't see any jelly fish at all. It is now September 2022. During the Covid lockdowns, the Vietnamese people were not lazy but very active in preparing for the after covid tourism restart. There was some trash in the waters but it was fairly light as I did see people cleaning the areas in front of the beachside hotels daily. The small islands were especially clean. It was one of the best trips I have ever taken.
jelly fish appears only about 2 weeks a year, if you are really unlucky then you go there right the jelly fish season. I was one of those unlucky ones. I got stunk a lot but it was funny (even really painful).
Which side of PQ beach did you stay may I ask? I’m heading there in early Dec and still not sure where to stay. I got free nights at Regent but I heard the beach is not clean? Tks
I used your vlog as a reference to plan my trip recently . Thank you first of all. I visited Sapa even though you weren't very positive about it and I would recommend others to visit it too. The place is really nice and Fansipan is just out of the world.
I am glad I stumbled apon your video. We are travelling to Vietnam in October 2022 and concentrating on the north. We will fly into Da Nang and start our journey in Hoi an . I backpacked through Vietnam way back in 1996 and I remember not really enjoying Hue so I am glad you mentioned skipping it. It was the only place that I experienced inappropriate touching. A young man tapped me on the boob as he rode by. No big deal.
Tim &fin very informative when you first mentioned Russian tourist being in that part of Vietnam it surprised me and then I realized how close Russia really is to Vietnam another great video guys thank you
For the Ha long Bay cruise. The best option is to take the tour from Cat Ba island. They go to the less touristy side , also Cat Ba island is really cool.
We did Hanoi to Sapa by sleeper bus last week. The one up there was a Hyundai and for me at 1.85mtrs was a little cramped. On the way back we were in a Thaco bus. It had way more room. It was orgasmic sliding into the berth after our 12 kilometre hill trek through the villages. Didn't do the train but glad we took the sleeper bus. You get to see all the changing scenery on the way. It's only six hours inc stops. Did all of Phu Quoc by scoot the last couple of days. Highly recommended. Driving not as bad as it looks. Everyone gives way. Go easy..
Thank you for a great video on Vietnam and enjoyed your 2 week Itinerary one also. This video helped me confirm places i have on my list for my Vietnam trip next year or so. Plus helped me add & maybe subtract a place or two. Appreciate the specifics & honst opinions vs just fluff & pretty pictures. Very helpful. Now just need to decide what time of year as going north to south then on to Cambodia. Great job!! 🎉
I like how I learn more how to travel in my own country through you guys. It is interesting to see the perspective from people from outside the country. It is interesting what you found interesting and whatnot.
Great info thank you. In my experience on Phu Quoc it was either 5 star resort areas with nice beaches or 1 star poor local areas. I was missing the clean and fun in between 3 star areas with good food and bars wo paying 5*
I think my description of Da Nang would clear a lot of confusion between different vlogs regarding the city: it's a travelling hub of the central region. Love your thought on "the hand", yeah it's a...hand, indeed.
Like your videos...always full of amazing images. Also like the fact that the information is real (good or bad) with no additional unnecessary fluff. Been to those destinations years ago...going back this year 2020. Thank you TIM & FIN.
This video was soooo helpful and honest, I loved it! The map thing really made me feel situated in terms of where to go, distances, etc. Please, make more of videos like that about different countries!!
Thank you for your time and posting. I want to stay for 3 months (depending on the visa, I've heard there is a new 90-day visa (2024) and if it works out, retire there. We'll see.
Thank you so much for the wonderful videos, I don't get to travel but I see many amazing places thru your videos.. thanks for taking the time to make them.. happy and safe journeys to you both..
I actually loved DaNang, but I can see how it could be considered a bit "mild" in comparison to some of the other locations. My wife is from HCMC. We met in the Florida Keys (where we live now) & we're expecting our first child any day....like, maybe tonight! We're moving back to HCMC in the fall. Your videos have given me a good understanding of what to expect when getting around the country & lots of ideas of where I'd like to take the family. So....Thank you for all the info & inspiration!!
Congrats on the new addition to the family! Our time in DaNang was sitting around in winter waiting for a visa renewal so we are likely biased! Would love to go back to enjoy the beach ☺️
Thank you very much. I must return to the Asia very soon!!! and Vietnam / Laos / Thailand and Malaysa are on my list, so I must do like a list of the best and to make it less to see more and this video does help!
Thank you so much Tim and Fin for sharing all your knowledge and experiences! My girlfriend showed me your motorbike documentary a week ago and I've been binge watching your videos ever since. Thanks to you, we're actually planning to go visit Da Nang and Hoi An in January 2021!!! Not only are your travels inspiring, but your business success has encouraged my girlfriend and I to look into trying something similar and hopefully one day becoming digital nomads ourself.. Please never sharing and you have our continued support!! Love you Tim n Fin!!!!!
Welcome to Vietnam. If you need more information about Vietnam or you want to ask any question, just drop by my channel and leave comments below any video. We are very happy to answer right the time you comment.
I went to Kep, Cambodia directly opposite pho quoc last year. The amount of plastic in the water was unbelievable. it was like a pea soup of plastic. You could see the island of Phoc quoc from there. So I have doubts.
What a great video. I always start with a map for any destination just to get the lay of the land, so the the way you have done this just makes it perfect for me to understand and then plan around. Wish you had this for every place in the world!
Thank you! Add this video to the short list of "honest" travel vloggers I will follow about VN. Hope you get down to the Mekong Delta. It's one of those places where I see mixed reviews so not sure if I'll do it. Seems like there's Instagram vs Reality discrepancies apparently. So need more honest travelers to review it before I make a decision.
Loved Vietnam, was there about 5 years ago. But have to disagree on a few things. I found the Hue Citadel fantastic. I had the opposite problem though, it was so hot, even in March, hotter than HCM. You should give it another try if you're back. Also I did meet some Russians in Nha Trang, they spoke English, nobody approached me there in Russian. I did like the city. Thanks for the video.
For an authentic cultural experience, make sure to attend the spectacular show at Hoi An Memories Land. It's an unforgettable way to connect with Vietnam's diverse traditions and customs.

Sounds like a great itinerary! 👍
Yeah not many people know about Lan Ha bay, its like mini version of Ha long bay and much less tourist
I think my description of Da Nang would clear a lot of confusion between different vlogs regarding the city: it's a travelling hub of the central region. Love your thought on "the hand", yeah it's a...hand, indeed.

Hello. Which hotel do you suggest near to night activities, grocery stores and if possible near to a Nice beach. Thank you !
