Hey man - great video! How did you attach the 2x4 uprights to the top and bottom of the frame? I don’t have a pocket hole jig so trying to work around it
I did use pocket holes but you could easily just angle a screw into it and sink it into the 2x4. Pocket holes just hide the screws but everything will be hidden in this so it doesn’t really matter.
your padding is not supposed to go over the tack strip, only the carpet. The padding goes right up to the edge of the tack strip. but, it turned out looking good. Oh, and they sell the correct vent transitions to go from the opening you have to the same opening you put in the wood.
That actually makes sense haha. Thank you for sharing! The vent transition was the best that my local HD had in stock and has worked pretty well so far. Thank you for subscribing Joseph!
Thanks for the straightforward video and information on the steps you took. Just one question. Did you find you had a very small overhang on the lids once you put the hinges in? I don’t want to add a handle so was hoping there’sa slight lip that enables you to lift the lid easily.
Thanks for the comment! There is no overhang on this one but we can still easily open them. I suggested drilling a finger hole into the top to make it even easier to open since ours is covered with cushions now. My wife said it’s fine without the holes so I just left them as is.
Yes I was thinking of a finger hole but if you’re finding it works as it is then maybe I’ll wait and see. I’ve watched the video many times now can’t do it everyday as it’s for our Daughter but the frame is finished. So thanks once again for this excellent demonstration.
Just one more thing I noticed this was a couple of years ago now. Has it stood up well is there anything you’d do differently with the benefit of hindsight? Thanks again.
Thank you for sharing such a detailed video! I am going to be doing a very similar build, and also have to deal with rerouting the vent. Yours turned out great!
You’re welcome! Thank you so much. I have since added some cushions and it looks even better. Do you plan to add cushions on yours? Please subscribe if you haven’t already!
Glad I found your channel. I like your work a lot. As soon as I finish building my cabinets for my shop (big mess now) I will try some of your builds. Thanks
Sorry for the delay! I just did the depth of the existing window bay which happens to be 16 inches. I would have liked wider but did not want it to stick out past the wall. Are you thinking of building one?
I was looking for a new sofa. You gave me a great idea. I'll just build a bench and tuft the top of it with a nice cushion. I'll have extra storage and a place to sit!!
Hands down-the BEST DIY window bench with storage video on TH-cam! I have saved tons of videos and still had questions. This video answered all my questions. Thanks for the video and I’m now subscribed.
We are working on a window bench seat with storage right now, and we have a vent similar to yours. My question is, why did you allow room for the vent within the storage. Was that to allow the storage to be climate controlled?
I’m not sure I understand your question. I extended the vent so the vent wasn’t covered by the bench. I made a platform inside the bench so we wouldn’t loose storage. Does that answer your question?
@@taylorstools777 It looks like your vent is 1/2 and 1/2. Half of it is lined up with the ductwork and the other half is exposed within the storage part of the bench. Does that make sense?
@@ashleydieter9323 Ohhh yes you are right. The vent is not centered on that wall and I didn't want to angle the 'vent extension' and risk reducing airflow. So yes some of the air from that vent is allowed inside the bench. based on where I had the two vertical dividers. I knew I wanted three compartments for the bench. It is not something you can notice looking at it now that it is complete and the room heats/cools as it did before. Does that help?
What a great video. I feel like I can make a window bench. I've been wanting one for two years. Thank you
Thank you glad you enjoyed it!
I can’t imagine who would put a thumbs down? This was very helpful! Thank you.
Thank you! Glad it was helpful!
Great video. I'm building one very similar today.
Good luck! Thank you for subscribing to my channel!

Do you ever opt for the super long 150mm screws on projects?

There is no need for a frame. 1/2” or 3/4” plywood would be substantially stronger, allow for better interior, and is easily trimmed with 1x material.
Excellent job. How did you attach the 2x4 to the brick wall on the right?
Thanks for showing this project from start to finish, I’m getting ready to build a breakfast nook and this is exactly what I needed to see!
Oh exciting! I’m so glad this helped. Good luck!
Did you do it?
What are you height dimensions including the top
Hi, can anyone please share contacts for building this bay window seat. Thanks
What city/state do you live in?

the tip about the gaps is really good. Won't do this project for a while so will save this to watch later. Thanks
Glad it was helpful! There are a few good ways to accomplish the same end result. Good luck on yours!
Thank you for sharing the video, that’s exactly what I was looking to do in one of the bedrooms.

I appreciate this very much!
Can you tell me how deep the bench is?
Sorry for the delay! I just did the depth of the existing window bay which happens to be 16 inches. I would have liked wider but did not want it to stick out past the wall. Are you thinking of building one?
Should have put edge banding on the lids.
I agree! I should have used one piece of plywood on the front too
Would love a close-up of your tools and a how to on cutting away base trim w/o drywall damage.
There was some minor drywall damage but it doesn’t matter because the bench covered it up!
I like your video. You did not use a lot of expense tools.
Makes me think maybe I can try to do this .
You can! I say go for it
now how to incorporate this with my baseboard heaters... sigh
Good luck!

Yes. Two of them.
@@lh876 Good luck!
Carpet won't catch into the tack strips with the pad under there. The pad should be cut back further to butt up next to the tack strip.
Great tip! You’re absolutely right haha. Wish you subscribed a year ago!
Decima Woodworks approves 😊
Yessss lol
Love it, thanks for this video
Thank you for the feedback!

Glad I could help! Anything you did differently to improve yours?

What should height and width be for banquet seating? Thanks
I’m not sure, sorry!
Thank you Im building one this month. Same issue with the vent being there...=)

great help thanks

I love how you incorporated the vent into the bench! Bravo!
Thank you! It is working nicely!

What pocket hole jig is that?
It is the Kreg K5 which I believe they have since improved upon. Not sure if you can still buy it.
Ok and thanks. I’am going to try it. Luckily there is no vent to move or carpet. 😊
Good news! Should be way easier than mine then!
Ok, got it ✔ Had to do a few thing ++ but got it done. 😊 thanks
