Fascinating! And I thought I was mad by having 6 pairs of inline skates.

Loved seeing all these! My original skates were also Super Teri, painted beige when I joined Follies, and I had Reidell for figures. Still have them!
    Skates have certainly evolved!!

I love going through antique shops, especially up here in illinois, because you can find a lot of vintage skates in them. :)

And for carrying those 2 pairs of skates, we used a special carrier made of wood!
It looked like an upside-down T, your toepick went face down at the bottom and the heels were hooked in with a spring at the top (like a guard spring). One pair of skates on each side of the middle support shaft. It was very clever.
I tried to find a photo but was unsuccessful.

Fascinating! I stepped away from skating for a while, and coming back the skates are so different I was wondering what happened! Synthetic materials and so much padding. Good to know even the Olympic skates have changed too, it's not just some weird sneaker-esque thing being hawked to me at the bottom end of the market.

Side note: Two cool things about prehistoric skates:
    1) Most countries didn't actually attach them. Kids would just step on them and rely on the roughened cut side to keep their shoes in place as the dorsal side of the bone slid along the ice. That would be the front part of the leg as the animal is standing. The hole you see in the front of skates was from the cord they'd use to hang them up for storage.
    2) Only kids skated, because the bones only get so long. Cow bones were more common, so mostly it was pre-teen children; richer teens could also skate, because they had horse bones available to them, which are slightly longer.

My 1959 boots and skates were nothing like those you have from the 60s. They were much higher up the leg but they did have a heel. There was very little padding.😁

So that is why I broke my skating boot today... they are from 70. and I did spins and jumps in them, and they were used when I bought them too... 🤣I think the boot was once repaired in past but lost its strenght so it broke.
