Jacob wasn't technically wrong... Apparently the game was released in Europe and Brazil as a Donald Duck game, but then Nintendo got the North American release rights and all Donald Duck references where omitted (still Disney branded tho)

the fact that the game Jacob referenced actually WAS a Donald Duck game has to be one of the best plottwists I've ever seen. silver linings everybody!
After he mentioned that the duck was an archeologist who becomes a ninja, my #2 guess was "that's still somehow a Donald Duck thing." Just had that vibe. My #1 guess was a Darkwing Duck game where you switch between playing as DW and Launchpad. (Mildly disappointed that was wrong because Darkwing is rad.)

I'm actually an aquarist who works with horn sharks so it was super cool seeing yall react to their weird eggs! To answer the question, horn sharks are named that because they have a small spike at the front of their dorsal fin and their eggs are shaped like that so the mother can wedge them into rocks to keep them safe and in one place. Another Californian shark called the swell shark tackles the problem differently by having long tendrils on their eggs that get tangled in the rocks to prevent the eggs from being washed away!

@@Swenglish Yep, ska was a Big Deal here in the UK. We have a sizeable Jamaican population who brought it over, and it really caught on in the mainstream during the 70s-80s.

As an entomologist, i was about to talk about the difference between shield bugs and stink bugs and i was so jived when julia got on google and talked about pentatomids! Basically they were right, stink bugs are shield bugs but not all shield bugs are stinkbugs. And the name is pronounces "PENT-uh-TOE-mid" and you add an "ee" on the end for pentatomidae. :)
Edit: i also would have LOVED to see what theyd have done with whelk eggs or apple snail eggs!!

While I'm not aware of any games _about_ soldier ducks, they were definitely characters _in_ some games from the 90s. The "Mana" series of games (e.g., Secret of Mana, Legend of Mana) had a "Mad Mallard" enemy, which was a duck wearing an infantry helmet.

Example- Nathan is king of dinosaurs in a prehistoric world; Karina uses a Digimon deck in a YuGiOh-esque dimension; Julia is a Drawtective in an isekai full of vampires; and Jacob is the leader of a bunch of little guys rebelling against hot villains.

Some sharks actually give live birth, but it's very interesting because they stay attached to the umbilical cord for quite some time, sharing food with it's mother outside the womb.
Also, Jacob salt is a rock that tastes good, and nightshade berrys are a poison that tasts good.
The older I get, the younger people in their 20's seem to me.
Thus, the fact that Julia, an entity that exists beyond time, sees 20-year-olds as toddlers is canonically accurate.

So Maui Mallard is Donald Duck and Daffy Duck is Duck Dodgers. If I had a nickel for everytime cartoon ducks played real life show character parodies I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but its weird that it happened twice.
I would like to point out one thing about the horn shark eggs - Julia is pretty close to correct about their shape. They're shaped like that so that the horn shark can wedge them into narrow openings in rocks so they don't get washed away or get eaten by predators. So yes, they DO have a good excuse for being like that. Plus they're just cool looking like that.
The second batch of eggs immediately made me think of the Hawaiian happy-face spider and got excited, but I guess if they wouldn't even draw spiders on an episode where they explicitly draw things people don't like when spiders were brought up, featuring and showing photos of an actual real-world spider in the very next episode would be pretty unlikely.
I feel like if you're in a maze full of ducks, the ducks are probably trying to kill you.

Hearing Jacob describe Cold Shadow, which is a Donald Duck game, and then insist that he wasn't talking about Donald Duck hurt my soul. It's an amazing game, it's kind of a shame it is very short.
On a side note, there's at least one other piece of media that does the same metafictional thing Cold Shadow does, funnily enough also centered around a duck, and it's Duck Dodgers. There are probably many more, but I can't think of any in particular.

I, as an exercise, paint pictures of eggs in oil from life. I even do an under drawing as a way to keep practicing the basics. It can get repetitive, until I started using cracked shells, then it got challenging.

Draw what bugs would look like if their adult appearances actually looked anything like their younger selves, like Pokémon evolutions.
Since I've been getting back into Digimon, For Karina's Digimon I want to suggest these names. For the In-Training 1 would be Pupaemon. The In-Training 2 would be Papiliomon and the Rookie would be Catermon, Them both having a subtle reference to cats that would be later dropped in the rest of the evolutions because the Champion is ShieldBugmon. The undrawned Ultimate would be VlinderWolfmon, named after the Butterfly Wolf Sand Wasp, that's neither a Butterfly or a Wolf. Vlinder Wolf is translated from English to Dutch.
Episode idea:
One artist draws something and the other 3 render it.
Each in their own style, So there's 3 different renders of the same original sketch.
SPEED DRAWING SUGGESTION: advertisement posters for a nonsense product, like a yell-powered bicycle or a handheld toaster, idk but I know y'all would have fun, and Nathan would riff SO hard.

i kinda love when drawings from previous episodes are edited in because, like, imagine having never heard of drawfee before seeing this episode, and then out of nowhere you're hit with a picture of a horseshoe crab saying "i am a bottom".
I am sad that Julia doesn't like Vespiquen. Not once have I ever thought of her as a maid. She is a battle hardened monarch. That face is a business face. She is the throne. She also has the honeycomb shaped bottom because she is a hive. Young combee surround her and rest there, so she can do surprise attacks with defend order and swarming capabilities by getting the young combee to do her bidding. She is unsettling and threatening and I think she is such a great design. The honeycomb dress is inspired and I love it.

As a kid in the 90s, I played Crazy Drake, a game about a dead beat prince duck whose parents were kidnapped and he had to become a superhero with older guns to save the king and queen and defeat the evil scientist who kidnapped them!
Ok not a duck, but the whole 'duck soldier game' conversation had me thinking of Sgt. Byrd from the Spyro seires. It's a penguin in an army helmet with rockets on his shoulders - loved that guy!

That Duck Maze cover dug up a super deep memory of being chased by dogs while trying to collect different colored collectables and it took me a while to remember what it was. It was the PC version of Frogger, which had low-poly graphics and a bunch of different worlds and crazy concepts like "what if Frogger was in a volcano factory?" Now I have to find it again and figure out a way to get it to work.

The fact that the sequel to 'Educational Duck Armageddon' involves the titular duck having "nothing left to live for" and going to war, implies the original game is intentionally unwinnable. And that somehow makes perfect sense.
I owned Cold Shadow as a CD-Rom game. I'm glad you guys are talking about it and it wasn't a fever dream I had in my formative years.
