Thanks for recording. Grew up in Monmouth (born 1992) and have seen several incidents of flooding growing up and seen it while crossing the Wye Bridge every day to school, but never this bad. I have never seen the River Wye completely cover the Wye Bridge arches until now, never known them to close the bridge because of fears that the bridge might collapse. Never seen the River Monnow (which is pretty shallow) get that high. Can't ever remember a time when our drinking water was at risk. Can only hope it goes down now and the rain coming isn't enough to make things any worse.

You're welcome. It is the highest I've ever seen of the Wye and Monnow living in the area since the mid 80s. It is a good job the flood defences didn't get breached as the situation would've been a lot worse. Unfortunate for the undefended areas though.

Jesus, that sucks big time. Good luck to everyone dealing with that.
Stay safe first & foremost. Sending my prayers to everybody in the U.K. from Boston, MA.
If this helps, whenever Florida has floods they have alligators in them.

Yes, we do live by a river. That tends to be where populations settle for a variety of reasons. Where would you suggest, up the top of snowdon?

Expect another push of moisture almost weekly ... whadda' change in global atmospheric circulation, bummer.
A solution long-term is Mayan dig•n•fill for wet non-drying fields, loess/soils with clays that don't drain.
It needs a thin ballast rock & gravel layer below topsoil, Inca-style, to drain to the canals to dry out enough to get a crop to harvest.
To reduce runoff volume is working down from ridges to floodplain with manual micro-terracing to Inca terracing, so, has larger ballast drains to pond runoff & that inserts it into the groundwater system which delays it downstream.
Yet, that raises the watertable in creeks, affecting the Mayan style work lower down, so, needs a scoped hydrologic plan for each small watershed a best practice to then build the larger basin models.
    This flooding will get worse.
    Ymmv.
