    I saw Flu twice. The final of copa del libertadores was a difficult game, result is what counts. But the way they played against City was marvelous. 4-0 loss was flattered but Flu played the ball very well around with a lot of risks in front of the keeper. City won the game with experience but Flu played with beauty.

    • @edydossantos

      Brazil lost his identity in football trying to immitate europeans. The european playstyle works for them but didn''t had any success for Brazil.
      If you watch the match against Peru you will see how most of the players are so used to european style that they have a hard time trying to follow this style of play. "jogo bonito" is lost and i doubt it will be back in any time soon.

      Speaking from a Brazilian perspective: i don't believe that we need an European coach. However the disdain for the Brazilian School is in great part caused by Brazilian coaches themselves.
      As top talent was always abundant in Brazilian football, our coaches got more and more over reliant on individual skill to solve problems. It all comes down to the 24 year drought between the 1970 and 1994 WCs. Historically, the Brazilian school was based on asymmetrical positioning and lots of rotations. Diagonals, ladders, position shifts... That's how the 1970 Dream Team played. However we got our asses handed over for 24 years after that as football became ever more athletic and physical. So we got tired of playing beautifully and losing. So beginning the 1990's Brazil had kind of a "compensation" school: teams that were built with total focus on defensive organization to "compensate" for two or three world class players that would free-float in attack. That's how we won the 1994 and 2002 WCs. In the 1990s/2000s was common sense in Brazil that teams had to be organized defensively and that on attack our best players would find their way around autonomously.
      The problem is that with the tactical evolutions of the game from the mid 2000s onwards just relying on individual prowess to win games became unfeasible. Teams are more organized than ever, the pitch became shorter, teams now mark with more intensity and compactness than ever before. Just giving the ball to your best player and saying "go on, win the match" doesn't work. Brazilian coaches took too much time to adapt to this because there was little to no renovation in the 2000s. To make matters worse, we had a terrifyingly underperforming generation in which many of the most promising players never achieved their potential (think of players like Alexandre Pato and Adriano). So not only it's harder to rely only on individual skill but we also have less of it.
      But that seems to be changing: coaches such as Diniz are slowly moving back to a football philosophy closer to what Brazilian football used to be. I don't know if its going to work out on the big stages, but it's damn exciting to watch.

    • @danielgalea8499

      I fundamental misreading of the situation. They can do this because they have so many players around the zone of the ball, someone will be free and every team will always allow the most deep player on the ball to be free if they are outnumbered.
      If you defend zonally (as most European teams do) you will struggle to match the numbers such a game model has.
      In Europe, the reason players don't have time on the ball is because they arrange themselves in a much more even distribution across the entire pitch. Occupying positions or spaces rather than congregating around the ball.
      There is no such thing as it *won't work in Europe*. The reason they'd lose to a European team is because in the end talent makes the difference. If they play a team from the champions league they would have a talent disadvantage, if they played a team from Serie C they would not.

    • @edydossantos

      If you mind to count how many players are with the ball and how many without it, you'll understand what happens. Whilst in Europe they do triangles with the ball and sometimes squares without it, Diniz overloads the ball zone. Sometimes you have seven players with the ball in the same space as in Europe they play with 3 tops. it's like they'd playing in a indoor court. It's very tight and needs time to be absorbed by all the players. And it is mandatory that the players don't be median controlling and passing the ball. They need to be outstanding in this foundation, otherwise they will fail miserably. This Fluminense team from the fitness perspective is something in the middle of table in Brazilian league. This kind of game can make players that still have some fitness, but are good technically, span their careers.
