I read Margarat Michell's novell (about 14 years old) and I found very strange according to her the slaves liked the slavery. That was my funny impression from the book that time. Later I read W.E.B. DuBois's biography about John Brown and his book changed me to respect John Brown in turn I agree Abraham Lincoln (from 1859) the Harpers Ferry raid was doomed from the start! However the role of John Brown was important in the mini Civil War of Kansas according to DuBois.
