I got a 4 year old coonhound who had never been inside a house, had only hunted, had no basic skills. I would get very frustrated after 10 minutes of training. A neighbor 9 year old girl would come over because she really wanted a dog but couldn’t convince her parents to get one. I showed her a few things that I was working on with my dog and went inside. An hour and a half later I came out and they were still playing/training together, both happy as clams. I was jealous.
My biggest setbacks at the beginning with my first lab were not having enough patience, once I learnt to be patient everything started to fall together. Thanks for all these amazing videos Sir, I'm learning so much about these amazing animals every time you post a new video.

I had a huge set back with my old GSD, we had no connection for the first 13 months' of her life and training was difficult, but then it all clicked and she made the best GSD I have ever owned!

Dear Stonnie, thank you very much. We rescued a German Shorthair/Belgian Malinois mix pup last July (yes floppy ears) who turned out to be the brightest dog I ever met. She is so smart! I knew if we didn't start training her right away we would be in trouble and your methods were a godsend! She loves to "go to work" every morning and at four months has very nice manners and impulse control. Your techniques make it so fun. Again, I can't thank you enough.

Another dog training video that I really needed. Thank you. I thought I was a training failure but I think I just didn’t understand my puppy. I had a German Shepherd with high energy and I think I really wanted an Ollie dog. 😊
I moved from ireland to your fine country few months back and am the proud owner of 9 month old American lab and I have to say with your help and guidance and common sense approach she has developed into a well rounded, balanced , healthy dog. I have owned many different breed of dogs back in Ireland over the years but taking your advice on the American type Lab which as available on this side of the water has made me a very happy dog owner. Hey Stonnie- Another great video. Thank you. The Mrs and I are with our Granddog trying to put some techniques regarding sit, stay, wait, and come to use. For this 7 month old Golden Retriever/Duck Toller puppy, he seems to understand all of that, but it takes constant reinforcement and kindness. We understand the incremental progress, and know there are setbacks in the process. We appreciate your training vlogs! By the way, yesterday we saw the short IMAX 3D movie SuperPower Dogs. It’s about all kinds of rescue dogs from Bloodhounds to Newfoundlands. The cool thing I noticed is that the handlers used the same training techniques as yours. Very cool 😎. Thanks again!

You must of read my mind. We're on our fifth puppy. A 19 week old Golden Retriever. Full of energy and wants to be were ever people are for attention. Still in the biting and jumping on people stages but we see gains every week. She has been a challenge so far but I love her for it. She's smart and independent. A good challenge for sure. Been binge watching your videos because I have a lab puppy (American lol) & he’s NOTHING like my older dog who was a breezy Sunday morning since 6mos onward. He’s 6yrs old now (boxer mix though). Otto the lab just turned 8mos and it’s just been so nice watching your videos to freshen up on all my knowledge because I really didn’t need to use it for Hank (older dog). Thanks for being cool! And love the “jumping on your grandma” omg hilarious!!

Hahaha yeah pouting! first thing i taught my GSD was sit on that picnic table .... then first time she go to the cafe she happy jumps right up and so cheesed off when she asked to stay off it on the floor! Turns out we got too many of those public tables in the public spaces.
I have 2 new female border collie Australian shepherd mix pups and love your info and training knowledge. I’ve heard that it’s harder to train two siblings together so I’m really trying to focus on being mindful of that

My Shepherd is very unmotivated, took me 2 months to teach him speak and a month to teach him lie down because he just doesn’t want to learn, he just wants to sit outside by himself all day and once my moms dog is out with him, forget it, he completely ignores me and they’re practically glued to each other, it’s definitely a challenge but I know we’ll get there soon if we keep working
Stonnie, I got 2 questions for you. 1. My pup doesn’t bark or whine, he’s just not real vocal, how do I train him to let me know he needs to go outside. Right now I just make sure I take him out often and I’m saying potty every time but I can’t get him to bark or paw the door or anything really. Take into consideration he’s a 10 week old pit bull. He doesn’t have accidents much but it’s prolly due to us making sure he goes out plenty. So how do I get him to bark or something at the door to let us know? And 2, he seems to have an obsession with culverts...it’s to the point where unless your running with him he’s pulling at the leash trying to fight to get to them, you have to pick him up and get him away from it and then he’s good and doesn’t pull hardly at all until he notices the next one. I’ve tried to let him explore one but he just wants to get in it and stay and won’t budge even for a treat, you have to drag him out. I thought maybe it was just one culvert but it’s not it’s any. Not sure what’s going on here?? Any thoughts or tips on how to overcome this? Sorry for typing this in a public forum, it’s kinda long. Thanks in advance for any reply.
Thank you for your videos, they are helping me with my new pup. It's good to get this perspective from a professional. I have an issue with my 4 1/2 months old lab puppy I just got trying to jump the puppy pen when I walk away. She's okay when I'm there, but the issue is when I walk away. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Is it me, or how do I deal with this?
"I'm a very ego-driven person. I like to go up the hill and have all the dogs gather around me and act like I'm great, and it hurts my feelings if they don't." LOL! I can just imagine you sulking there surrounded by puppies trying to comfort you because one of them decided sniffing poo is more interesting :'D

This came out at a great time for me. Getting a new lab pup has set my 2 year old lab back. She seems to have forgotten how to behave and come lol. Not sure if jealously is coming into play with her.
Just make sure to give her a little bit of extra attention and exercise. She will chill out shortly!
@@StonnieDennis Thank you. I had big plans for her being a mentor dog since watching your videos with Henry and she is such a stable, calm dog. This is a very surprising change in her demeanor. I'm trying more one on one with her too.
Oh my goodness, you are talking to me, lol. I had 4 pups their breeds were notoriously stubborn, but I had no setbacks, they were great. And now this pup... setbacks all the dang time lol.

Anybody know the brand and diameter on those slip leads? Just curious - they are much thinner than the Mendota one I picked up.
Hey Stonnie love your videos! Correct me if I’m wrong but they’re from the same litter right? I recently learned of “litter mate syndrome” where they bond too strongly being from the same litter. From what I understand it can make it more difficult to train the pups because they’re more focused on each other than you the trainer. I’d be interested to hear your opinion. Thanks Stonnie!
LOL, at "littermate syndrome"...everything is a syndrome nowadays, no? It's no trouble raising litter mates, I do it all the time.
I've heard having sibling dogs has inherent difficulties given their bond is priority with each other instead of their handler.
People love to stick labels on stuff. I raise litter mates all the time without a bit of trouble.

I'm having such a hard time deciding if we wanna get an english lab or american lab. They are both so cute and have so many pros and very little cons. Haha I've watched your videos on the differences haha and it's only making me like, ok I want that one, then I'm like welllllll maybe that one. Haha so I'll ask your opinion, o wise one. Haha we have a moderately active life, I have a 6 year old girl and 4 year old boy who are both well behaved towards dogs. They LOVE them. I like the idea if having a mellower dog for the days we just feel like having a slow day! But I dont want a lazy dog. We need one that wants to play and can keep up with my kids and walking to and from school. We live right against the Rockies and go on hikes every so often, want a dog to take with of course! Haha we also own some property near a lake and spend almost every other weekend at the lake, so one that likes to swim and behave on the canoe, boat or paddle board :) I feel like for the most part either one would be good. Also, I've had dogs before but my husband hasnt. He is a little more on the fence on behavior with dogs because he has never had to train one and the ones his siblings and my siblings have are a little naughty Haha but I plan to 100 percent train our dog. So I'm not worried there. This is probably too much info hahaha but there it is :)
Also, winters can get really shitty here so it's not always the easiest to take em out for a walk. But we do have a decent sized house and about a quarter acre fenced yard :)
Hey Stonnie, how would you train a dog to stop fence fighting with neighbor dogs?
I've got a Sheltie who is very high energy and excitable, but never aggressive, except for in the back yard when the neighbor's dogs run to our shared fence and bark.

"A tired dog is a good dog" a sheltie was bred to herd, which is hours a day of hard work, running like crazy, thinking hard.
What Kind of leash you use?
Is that ultrasonic bark buster remote you have effective?
Do all dogs feel a similar level of pain/discomfort from them or does it depend on the individual?
It’s really weird. I’ve been testing it for about a year now and my experience has taught me that it’s 100% effective on about 1 out of 200 dogs; so .5% of the time.
@@StonnieDennis So 95% a waste of time unless you work with a LOT of dogs :)
From a utilitarian point of view, it's a 100% waste of time as there are tons of super easy, effective, correction techniques. From a novelty stand point, it's very interesting though, and they are very cheap so there's no reason not to grab one.
How can I train a lab not to run out in road and chase cars or run to next doors house . He is good at everything else but the minute you take him off the leash or his cable he heads to the road
What is the name of that kind of leash?

We have 2 year old Goldador. We got her as a puppy for my then 8 year old grandson who has mild Autism. I was taking her to training class and she was doing quite well till I fell down the stairs and had to stop . It's been over a year now and I haven't been able to start back. I am 69 now and not physically able to handle a big strong dog. Do you have any tips for disabled owners?
