  • This is an installation and build guide for the Corsair iCue 5000T RGB. A mid-tower case with "smarts". I've crafted a separate features review ( • Corsair iCue 5000T RGB... ) if you want to know what's good but this is an in-depth guide on how to build in it, the features and layout specs and the problems along the way.

The 5000T comes with some things pre-installed to make your life easier with 3 X Corsair LL120 fans, a Commander Core XT (fan/RGB controller) and multiple lighting strips for extra RGB.
It is able to hold multiple 360mm radiators and you can put those on the top, front or back (motherboard panel). But not all three.
In this video I'm showing you two different configurations. One with the NZXT Kraken Z73 ( • NZXT Kraken Z73 RGB In... ) top mounted, with three exhaust fans and three intake. The other with 10 fans (9 X ML120 RGB Elite) and the Corsair H150i Elite Cappellix LCD AIO ( • Corsair H150i Elite LC... ). I've benchmarked both layouts and yes, more fans is better but check the full video for the details.
    Highlights:
Inclusion of Commander Core XT makes life easier for fans
    RGB for days
multiple mounting points for SSDs and rads
Solid and intelligent layout with loads of space for cables
    Lowlights
HDD cage is problematic as it restricts PSU space and/or 360mm rad side mounting

@@TheProvokedPrawn after building it, im a bit torn apart... I had a much smaller case before für a fraction of the price (only 70.- compared to 300+ of the iCue) - but the other one was easier to build. Im still having those thick bundled power cables - and no matter what i do, they push the wimsy side (compared to the robust glass on the other side) now and then open. Then Ill have another command (pro), used to attach it with 2 of the corsair magnet stripes it comes with - somehow on the iCue 5000T the magnets are not strong enough to keep the commander in place. The fans are cool - and i have to say, they are even enough as case fans - even for my heavily overclocked i9 12900k which sometimes gets extremely close to 1.5V when loaded ;) My RTX 3090 (stock air cooled) remains below 70 degrees C under 100% load (even when the load lasts overnight - deep learning - and I pushed it to to +107% power limit - so what i really love is the airflow and the lighting - but some design and material choice of the case is typically "may it look great, sell high, but produced cheap". My old case had totally 14 x 120mm spots, fitting 360mm rad in 3 spaces (bottom, top, front side) - coling effciency due to not having a direct airflow channel (side opening only - no front) was worse - but in terms of fitting parts and cables it was actually well thought and efficient. Even for my QL120s which io wanted to fit - their cables are really have to be strechted to reach the commander - so the fact that they dont even check their own top lighting fans for proper compatibility speaks many words - i cannot even put their cables into the "rapid route" because they're not long enough and of course, corsair tehmselfe dont offer RGB extensions.
Im not saying its crap - but for this price i expected seriously more - especially that wismy cable side door - a few cables can pull it open...

Awesome video, thank you so much for your time and attention to detail in making this video. I’m about to build my first ever PC and this is the case I’m using. I am very nervous about managing all the different cables but eager to get started; your video has been a massive help and gives me an idea of what I’m in for. Im finding it daunting before I have even got started but want to prepare myself for when the components arrive so I can (hopefully) have a relatively smooth time of building it.
I have a question regarding the splitter you mention to enable use of all front end panel USB ports (my mobo only has one port) what is the name of the product I am looking for? I have tried an Amazon search but the connectors look different to those in the video and I do not know the official name for them due to being a newb. If you could link an appropriate product from Amazon or similar that would be perfect however if not possible then just the name of the connector would be grand.
    Thanks again

Can watch this over and over! Thank you for all the explanations :) I was wondering though, if you use a cable USB3.0 splitter (19pin) if you only have one port on your motherboard, does that affect bandwith? Are those 4 ports still using 3.0 speeds? Thanks in advance!

Thank you so much for being so thorough and setting up the multiple options in the case. I'm also going to do the Aio on the side like you did at the end of the video. I did see a temp test video with smoke blown through the case and they found it was better to install only two exhaust fans at the top because that third one over the AIO actually was pulling a lot of the cold air out before it reached the mobo.
One thing I am curious about that you didn't discuss was, can you make each fan a different solid color such as one red, one blue, one pink, one green in the icue program?

Great video! Working with my son on pretty much the exact build. I have a couple of questions. Did you ever find a proper USB 3.0 splitter? You have 10 fans split (6+4) on 2 Commander Cores. How are they split? Front (intake)/Top (exhaust) on one and Radiator Side (intake)/Rear (exhaust) on the second core? How on earth did you cable manage the front fans cleanly? Fan 1 on the bottom isn’t long enough to run to the top of the case and down to the preinstalled Commander Core. It would have to cross the side panel radiator fans. But your final build looks completely clean. Lastly, I have an Asus ROG Strix Z790-E Mobo and only 2 usb 2.0. If I use the splitter from my H150i LCD, I can take care of one Commander Core and Cooler. I can use the 2nd USB 2.0 for the other Commander Core. Can I plug my Corsair HX1000i usb into the daisy chain input cable from the second Commander Core? **Note** This is my first ever PC build.

I did build in one of these last year and today replaced the PSU with a larger 1200w one and added a 4080. There are problems with the case but none are perfect. With a large PSU and lots of cables the 3.5” drive cradle doesn’t fit, the rubber grommets fall off when wires go through, there is a pointless door behind the rear panel that gets in the way and the horizontal slots are a bit low so you can’t use them with tall cards but overall it’s a good case. I have an AIO using 2 fan location on the side panel then all the other fan locations have a fan. I also have another on top of the PSU bay forcing air into the 4080.

Mr Prawn - first of all, great video, and really helped demystify some questions I had about my 5000T when I did my build a few days ago. At one point in your vid (around the 34:30 mark), you talk about how there are 2 USB 3 leads that need to go into the mobo (for the top 4 ports), and say that you can find a splitter online if your board only has one. I'm in that particular predicament, but I cannot find any online. I have, however, found other threads w/people who have my board, who are also looking for ways to solve this, and they were not able to find anything either! There are a few cables on amazon that claim to be USB 3 splitters, but the reviews all say that they are not true splitters, and make it so that neither of the USB 3 leads are seen by the mobo.
Could you please provide an example of where I can get a legitimate USB 3 splitter so that I can plug them both into the single port that I have? Thanks!!

I have the Noctua DH-15 and I don't plan on over-clocking. I would have loved to have seen the results from a passive air cooler in the system. This video is and will be super helpful when I finally build my PC in the next couple weeks. Just two questions:
    1) I have a Aorus Z690 Pro DDR5 Mobo that only has one USB 3.2 header. What do I do with the extra USB front panel cable? What will happen if I don't use it? I can't find anything about this online.
    2) Is it possible to do a push pull set up with 3 fans push and 2 fans pull? I would like 13 fans in my set up but don't want to buy another commander pro since im getting one from the case and another from the AIO kit. So taking one fan out the "pull" would keep me from spending more money. (Only reason I want push pull is to cover that extra gap above the mobo and under the fans in this huge case lol)
    Thank you!

    • @TheProvokedPrawn

      1) you can either use a splitter or don't use it. If you don't then you will just have less front panel connections. No other problems.

How many commander cores are in that setup. I’m doing a SL120 x 10 fans that require 2 usb alone so take up all the commander pro, then I have the H150i cooler that uses one usb and then I have the icue lcd adapter kit which also has another usb i believe . My motherboard only has 2 USB ports and I also need 1 port for case usb and annoyingly the 10 fans require power yet 1 commander core only has power for 6 so I’m guessing I need 2 commander cores ideally.

I found this helpful as my son and I got the 5000x, which doesn't have some of the features yours has, but is very similar.
7:30 Did that control module come with the case? How do you feel about the iCUE software? I didn't find that their website provided enough info on it. Have you used other HMSes than iCUE? If so, which brands (e.g. Lian Li, Cooler Master, ASUS, etc.) and how do they compare to iCUE? Also, in your experience, is having HMS worth the extras involved (cost, hardware, whatever)? Any other thoughts? I'm trying to figure out if I should go for iCUE, the ASUS HMS, or something else. I still have to get the PSU, and I may need to get an AIO because I don't have AC, so those are factors in my purchases. Please note that I do NOT care about LCDs, RGBs and such - I'll be looking at my screen, not inside my case. Thus, my primary interest in the ability to have it monitor my hardware, provide failure predictions/warnings and control my USEFUL hardware in a uniform fashion.
17:57 What is that? I don't see that on my 5000x.
38:00 Will that be a problem for all GCs, or just double wides? What width do you think would make it feasible without an AIO? I'd been planning to use that for my GC, but now I'm bummed.
39:00 Does mounting the SSDs on that grating inversely affect airflow for the PSU or other parts?
