    I went G2 and now G3 Atom with a Morningstar ML5 to add extra loops, works faultlessly and the Tech Support from GigRig has been amazing

      Well done, and indeed the support is unheard of. I am thinking about the Atom for my second board, can’t go wrong.

    This was so well stated. I have a G2. For me it was about preserving the signal from the guitar to the amp. I wanted to feel plugged into the amp with that type of sound and response without signal loss and degradation. I did not have the means to experiment with rack systems and other things in years past. I love delay and pedals. When my brother looked at my rig of pedals in the 90s he said, "That looks like an electric train set." There were easily 10-14 pedals on the floor between me and my amp. Terrible sound dynamics. The guitar needed to be on 10 and the tone knobs did virtually nothing. I almost pulled the trigger on Dan's earlier version, but budget did not permit it until G2 was out and established. From day one the sound quality was outstanding. Beyond anything I had experienced without just a cable, guitar and amp. Clarity. All the controls on the guitar were capable of subtle nuances. Ultimate control of the effects. GigRig is the core that really makes it work. Definitely worth the investment. I really like what you said about the Eco-System. The customer service is outstanding. Even though G3 is out I do not feel left behind or that the G2 will let me down in any way.

      Very cool man! I love that fact that you still feel so connected to the G2. It is by no means an 'old' piece of gear. The G3 has a few more bells and whistles but the sound quality is the same. I would have bought the G2 if the G3 wasn't just released at the time I wanted to get back into the pedal world. And I have experienced their customer service and the 'family', it's crazy good! Al the best!

    Hey mate, first of all this is a very helpful video! I currently own a Boss ES-8 just like you did and I'm wondering wether the G3 has a built in mute switch like the ES-8 so you can tune in silence. Nobody seems to talk about that...

    • @PatDeJongeSoundwise
      @PatDeJongeSoundwise  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate! The G3 units shipped after January 2022 have a build in tuner. That can be silent if you want it to be. I use an external tuning pedal and you can assign that to any button you want. I use button 7. If you tell the G3 that that button is your tuner, the loop can be exclusive, so it mutes all other loops and there you go: silent tuner. Should you run pedals in front of the G3 you have to rethink a bit, but it will work too. You then use your looper as a ‘dead end’ path, if you know what I mean. Good luck, it’s more than a few steps up from an ES8!

      Thanks a lot for the replay. Okay great, that makes sense. I‘ll most probably be using an external tuner as well. Cheers!

    those are completely relevant points. On top of that we should not support this kind of consume and buying cheap shit every year. It is better to invest into a solution that will last long, get great support, and it is easy to fix in case something breaks down.
    One parallel I see with the Kemper. I have my toaster that is already very old an still top of the line, with great support. It has seen multiple Fractal generations ;)

      True! I was referring to Kemper and Helix :) They too understand how it should work.

    Those are all great points, i really needed this video tbh, in my case it all goes down to a battle between rjm pbc10 and a G3, the last one with more loops and what i think more flexibility on the pedal order rearrangement on the fly… still undecided any suggestions/input you could give me? How did you put an on/off switch into your pedalboard? Im still looking how to add one to my friedman pedalboard…
    Thanks for sharing! 👏🏻

    Very helpful insight! I am trying to decide on G3... or the Quartermaster 10. I only work in my studio.... so no need for live features, but I'm sure I could find some uses for Presets etc. Just need to have a clean switching system for noise, troubleshooting & easy swapping. I do have 12 mono pedals though so I would have to decide which pedals to not have inside the system. Can I ask if/jow you use a Volume pedal on this? I'd like mine "after my drives etc"... but "before my delays & verbs" like Lukather so I can pull the pedal back and have time based trails continue. Like Volume swells etc. Thanks!

      Hi, thanks for your comment! Well, I could have worked with the Quartermaster 10, no problem. I have maybe 8 'sounds' and could easily switch between them with the Q10. So the G3 is a bit of a luxury. But..once you start working with the G3 you realize that a lot of the functions should not be considered 'luxury', and now I'd miss them massively. The interface, ease of use, MIDI...all the extra options are so much fun to work with. I am very glad I bit the bullet.
      I do use a volume pedal, just like you, after the drives. I use the 4 cable method, so my amp is in one of the loops. All the drives are in loops 1 to 6, then the amp is in loop 7, the 'fx send' from the amp is in the return of loop 7. All the other loops (8 to 12) are time based pedals (that I control over MIDI), the main output of the G3 goes to the 'FX return' of the amp. The volume pedal (Ernie Ball) is also in loop 7, just before the amp. So out from loop 7 to the volume pedal, then to the amp input, then via the FX send of the amp to the return of loop 7. I've put everything in a nice Schmidt-Array 600 board, love it! Cheers! Pat

    Have you checked out the Morningstar ML10X? 5 TRS loops (stereo) that can be split into 10 TS loops (mono). It's controlled using their MC8 MIDI Controller. It sounds like everything you want is in their products. Their customer support is great. I've written to James (the boss) many times and he answers instantly. They also have a dedicated forum for their switcher system.

      I went with Morningstar for the very reasons you state here. I did not have this experience at all and found the ML10X and the entire Morningstar ecosystem difficult to use. Messed with it for a week and threw my hand ms up in disgust. Switched to the G3 and was up and running in one evening. Different strokes I guess.

      Thanks mate! What switchers are you thinking about? I must say, I just received the G3 and I can't believe how 'clean' the sound is! I didn't expect it to be that different. I'm playing with all the possibilities and it's really nice and straightforward. It seems like evrything you can think of is possible. I highly reccomend the Gigrig stuff. There was one thing I could not find in the manual, I asked the Facebook group and Dan himself send me a message with the info. My idea of their customer support was correct. Do not overlook that aspect! Happy hunting!

    Great video! Just got my G3 today! Can I ask a few questions?
    1. What patch cables did you use? I quickly found out that my flat end cables got in the way of each other at the send/returns.
    2. How can I have my tuner always active without muting the sound when I select Tuner?
    3. How do you power off & on everyday... unplug it?

      @PatDeJongeSoundwise  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Eric, thanks for your comment!
      for your questions:
      1. I use Evidence Audio SIS solder-less cables (evidenceaudio.com). They work great and the plugs are cosy next to each other. I have some flat cables too, but indeed: those plugs are too wide.
      2. I have programmed a preset (number 7) in 'stomp box mode' with just the 'tuner/aux' active. When you programme that preset you just need to make sure 2 buttons are lit: ''stomp box mode' and 'tuner/aux'. Since it is in Stompbox mode it will 'add' the tuner out to an existing preset when you press that preset (in my case: preset 7) switch. I want my sound muted when I tune, so that works for me. If you want I can make you a video. Just let me know. I'm not sure if there is a way to have the Tuner output engaged without the G3 silencing the main output...Could be that if you want that you need to put your tuner in a regular loop.
      3. I have my pedalboard (Schmidt Array 600) with the G3 (and all my pedals) on a power strip with an on/off switch. I just flick the switch and everything is on/off. When powering on I make sure I do the pedalboard first and only when all is lit up there I switch on the amp. Powering down it's the amp first and then the board.
      Hope that helps buddy!
