Birth control has been amazing for my skin! I seriously love it, my periods are so much more chill, I can move them around travel etc and my mood/hormones have been so fine - you hear so much negative stuff about birth control but I’m glad I just tried it for myself!
My acne did come back, it's actually pretty normal and happens to almost everyone and that's just because everyone's acne is caused by different things
I’ve been off of Acutane for about 7 months, and I have not had issues with my acne coming back. Around my period I’ll get very small breakouts, but they go away fairly quickly if I leave them alone. I am also on birth control so I think that is a large factor. I also try to stay pretty consistent with my skincare routine and have implemented retinol and BHA back into my routine :) I have also loved using vitamin c serum!
Hi ! I was on accutane for 6 months, when I got off it I noticed some smaller acne ( not the same as before tho) coming back and I discovered that that happened when I drank milk. I stopped drinking milk and it helped. Later on I stopped eatinf dairy and now I am vegan because I kept noticing that my skin gets irritated and inflamed from these foods.
so excited to watch this video! i love when you vlog anything related to you in college because i’m in my first year and feel like your videos are so relatable or encouraging! 💗🌸
I’ve been on Accutane twice and it’s come back both times :(( BUT I do not regret going on it (as harsh as it can be) because those months with clear skin were so worth it tbh. Now I manage my skin with being dairy free and using Curology. Once you go on Accutane curology can put tretinoin in your prescription because they know you can take the retinol. Also the dermatologist did try to put me on other topical creams and antibiotics that didn’t work for me before accutane, saying they sometimes work better after being on Accutane. But I think what keeps my skin clear now is being dairy free.
My acne didn’t come back, but I think it was because my dermatologist prescribed me a chemical peel (salicylic acid and glycolic acid combo) after going off accutane. I’ve used it as a night cream for the last 3 years and I definitely think that’s prevented me from getting breakouts. And it‘s helped heal my acne scars too!
My daughter is your age and did accutane Jan-June 2021 and her skin is super clear still! And it had been bad acne before. She used Tretinoin, from the dermatologist for a few month after stopping, but now nothing and it is still gone. Also, please don’t do birth control, it is super bad for your body.
Birth control CAN help your acne, but it will come back once you go off, and sometimes it comes back even worse than before! BC majorly messed up my hormones and I was so depressed and anxious on it. I have been off of it for 9 months and ended up starting Spironolactone recently bc my acne has been terrible since coming off the pill. I honestly would rather have the acne than feel how I was feeling on the pill, though! My unsolicited advice is to avoid the pill as much as you can…it has the potential to cause more harm than good!! ❤
The contraceptive pill helped me SOOOo MUCH with my cystic acne! I also veered away from heavy skincare and went back to basics (Cetaphil, The Ordinary etc) and it has been a blessing.
Hey Marla!! Im 20 years old and have had acne since I was like 13 and developed cystic acne at 16-18 and I didn’t want to go on acutane because it seems too strong so I started birth control to help control my hormones and it cleared my skin! I still have some breakouts and scarring but it helping the HUGE majority of my cystic and hormonal acne!!! I only took it for a year because I didn’t love the way it made me feel, but I’ve been off of it for about 3 months and am not breaking out bad at all which I was worried about. I break out around my period which was normal while I was on the birth control. Thanks for sharing your story and experiences!
hey marla! i have been on accutane and the pill: 1.) my acne went away after accutane, sometimes around my period i would get pimples BUT only months after stopping the medication. my acne scars took about a year to disappear as well. overall, not much new acne came along but it’s been about 3 years since i was on accutane and my skin is still good! 2.) the pill is super subjective, so definitely consider why you would want to use it- consider the long term results from the pill and how it can affect you personally. i started birth control the same year i started with accutane, but i am no longer on the pill (despite thankfully having zero side affects) purely because i don’t think it’s good for women! but the choice is yours, just ask friends and professionals what their advice is
i was on accutane for 6 months almost 4 years ago and I have yet to experience really bad breakouts ever since. I of course get the occasional pimple here and there from hormones e.t.c and definitely get the anxiety around feeling like the acne will come back. but personally it has not been an issue since going off accutane. acne will always be something I deal with but not nearly on the scale of what I experienced before accutane!
Hi Marla! I went on Acutane and birth control at the same time. After acutane, I stopped the birth control as well and eventually my acne came back :( so I went on birth control and within 4 months my skin was the best it’s ever been. Haven’t had any issues with acne since (going on 6 years now, except the occasional blemish). Birth control will make your skin worse before it gets better so be patient if you do decide to go on it.
From my experience, my acne didn’t come back! I had done a six month round of Accutane in my freshman year of high school. I’m in my second year of college now and thankfully my skin is still great🥳 I do take good care of my skin when it comes to products and washing
Birth control has helped my acne SO MUCH it also helped my skin be less greasy ! I also saw a difference by changing my pillow cases every 2-3 days, hope it helps ❤
I went off accutane 3 years ago and I have to use topical trentinoin to keep my skin clear- otherwise I’d be breaking out a lot. I also use the cerave benzoyl peroxide wash. I did go on the pill for acne but it’s side effects were worse than acne (weight gain, mood swings, morning sickness). Best of luck and I highly recommend using topicals post accutane!!
I was on Accutane three times and it always came back, but where I live doctors don’t take time to figure out what happens maybe internally or things related to hormones because they just want the money, so I changed my diet and studied so much about products and ingredients and my skin is better than those times on the pill, I mean, I still have acne and I don’t think it will ever go away but that’s just how it is, don’t stress too much because then it will get rough
I was on accutane in junior high and again in high school. It took a while for my skin to break out badly again, but my acne definitely came back, but the second time it was less cystic acne and more texture and small breakouts.
Ive been on the pill for my acne for 6 years and its helped mine SO much! i have never experienced any problems really and it cleared my acne up within like 6 months and still maintains my clear skin obviously i experience some hormonal acne when im on my period but its not cystic anymore
Birth control saved my skin! There are certain types that are better for acne than others, my doctor prescribed me one of these and it worked wonders:) also made my bad period cramps much better!
I have been off acutane for at least three years now. For the first two years, my skin was perfectly fine, but once I hit age 19 my acne came back with a vengeance. But, I'm pretty sure that it was hormonal and that it's normal for 19-year-olds, so once you're off, you should be good!
I finished 7 months of accutane back in October, and was SO nervous to get off!! I actually cried to my derm begging if I could stay on it despite having clear skin LOL!! I have been using spironolactone combined with tret and have had no issues so far!!
I was on accutane about 2 years ago for 8ish months and my acne was doing so good for awhile. I had the clearest skin, however I’ve been breaking out the past few months. I wouldn’t worry too much about it, especially for right after accutane I think your skin should be good for at least awhile if not forever. Plus you may always have little breakouts here and there, accutane is great but not a forever cure. I think personally for me I just have a lot of hormones at the moment. But my dermatologist has assured me not to worry and has put me on other meds and to wait it out
I have been on two separate rounds of acutane. My dermatologist recommended me to slowly get off of acutane after my skin was perfectly clear. As soon as I started to take a lower dose my cystic acne came back at full force. So I went back on acutane at my full dose a few weeks later. I have since been off of it for 2.5 months and my skin has stayed clear and is starting to feel less dry. I will say, the dryness takes awhile to get rid of, as I currently till use the same skincare routine that I used when I was on acutane. I can also say that I am on the pill, so that has helped a lot with my acne too. But I have other people in my life who tried the pill and their skin reacted poorly. Its a trial and error journey. I would recomennd staying on a very basic skin care routine post acutane. I have stayed to the basics, with no extra products or steps added and its helped my skin stay at ease. I use a gentle cleanser from dermaologica, cerave moisturizer and super goup sunscreen, and aquaphor.
I am on birth control and I have nothing negative to say about it, and I was also worried about it initially based off of what I’ve heard with some people’s experiences, but I have been completely fine. It has subdued my periods and I haven’t found any other changes within myself. It’s different for everyone ! I thankfully don’t suffer from acne, however I did when I was younger. I would recommend to look into your diet. What you put into your body matters so much and will improve your skin. Your body will also thank you for it
I was on Accutane twice, years apart. After the second time, acne did come back and I have been using tretinoin ever since which keeps it under control. I also think spearmint teas/supplements, and probiotic foods help.
My acne came back about a year after going on acutane. It is predominantly hormonal acne and stress induced, so trying to lower my stress and take better care of my skin has helped. I went on spironolactone for two months and it was unsuccessful. Hopefully it doesn't come back for you!
i did 80mg of accutane for 6 months. started getting acne again about 6 months post accutane though it was way less severe. just a few spots here and there. i still have acne but i manage with spironolactone, birth control, and tretinoin!
i was on accutane twice but on low doses both times… like 10-30mg because of my very sensitive skin. i do still get acne but it is no where NEAR what it was before accutane and it is much more manageable with basic skincare products (not prescription). i also feel like it’s really only hormonal acne. the biggest difference is that my skin is A LOT less oily and has stayed that way- it is not as dry as it was on accutane (thankfully) but it is def more normal.
Hey Marla, I took accutane for like maybe 6 months, then when I came off I got my acne back but not as bad. So I complained to the dermatologist, and so after just a few weeks of being off it they put me back on it and decided to raise my total target dosage. After that I was on it for like maybe a year honestly and then I came off it again - and I NEVER got my acne back and it’s been about 5 years. My skin is clear and literally maybe around my period I may get like a little pimple here or there but it goes away like by the next day and leaves no scar. I love accutane so much for what it’s done for me. I will say that my back aches sometimes and I’m like hmmm it never hurt before - but honestly it could be that I’m in my 30s now lol so yeah - accutane has been a success for me personally.
I eat my eggs the same WAY! Andddd I too specifically got on birth control for acne and it helps keep it at bay. It’s not perfect but it’s not horrible. Being a female with hormones doesn’t always help 😅
It’s been 15 years since I got off accurate and aside for a few mini breakouts it’s never gone back to the original face full of pimples. If you do start to notice it coming back I would start eliminating inflammatory foods like dairy to see if that helps.
When I was a teen, nothing helped my acne. I was at a point where I was going to try accutane but I had to take 2 forms of contraception so I got on birth control pill and that alone got rid of my acne! It depends if your acne is hormonal or not, if it is then BC can really help it. To this day I still take BC and I get zero adult acne.
I have had acne for what feels like my entire life (from genetics, my sisters struggled with it too) it was never cystic until college where it all the sudden got way worse and then with masking during covid it got super super bad. I went on birth control specifically for my skin bc I was sick of skincare not helping and I wanted to fix the problem internally (I definitely suffered from hormonal acne) and it took time but it really did work. I definitely experienced purging and my skin got worse before it got better (took about 4 months 😬), but I’ll never forget looking in the mirror and realizing my skin had NO breakouts for the first time since I was probably a little kid and feeling thrilled. My skin still breaks out here and there but wow it’s so much better and now I feel like my skincare is effective because my skin isn’t just constantly irritated by breakouts. For reference, I am on a generic version of Yaz, which I believe is one of the approved birth control pills that are used to prevent acne. I still had a lot of scarring left behind even though my skin stopped breaking out so I used Differen Gel (over the counter) and sunscreen religiously and it helped tremendously.
The pill made a world of a difference for me with my acne. I had horrible hormonal and cystic acne and within 2 months of starting BC it was gone! The pill helped to balance my hormones which is what my dermatologist and gynecologist recommended I try to do since I was struggling with acne and horrible periods which made my acne even worse. I do occasionally get a pimple or two so it's definitely not a perfect fix but it's so much better than it was! Plus getting on the pill allowed me to be able to function during my period instead of being bedridden if thats something you struggle with too!
My acne did come back but it was WAYYY more manageable and was usually just a little tiny pimple here and there instead of painful cystic acne. And I think that it was mostly hormonal because it went away when I started on birth control.
my acne was pretty much gone for a while after i stopped my medicine but slowly it started to come back so i got on it again (this time on the stronger real accutane cause before i was on an off brand accutane cause that’s all insurance would cover) so im hoping it will stay gone this next time. my dermatologist said its very uncommon for ppl to get acne as bad as i did after accutane so u probably shouldn’t worry
My acne has been severe for the past five years. Birth control was definitely not for me. I’m currently using Face reality skincare and it’s literally helped SOOO muxh
Birth Control did help me with my acne but tbh when I stopped taking it the acne was 10x worse than before, also the period pain has gotten even worse than before taking birth control. I generally wouldn't recommend taking it just minimize acne. The possible side effects aren't worth it.
I was on accutane for a year & after a couple months my acne did come back😓 but birth control wasn’t something I wanted to go back on (it didn’t help my acne the 1st time) so I started spironolactone & one year later still no acne!
I’m 20 yrs old and I was on birth control for a year. My skin was clear throughout high school and only got a little acne when not eating the best but mostly clear. Once starting birth control, after a few months I got acne. I tried switching birth control and it didn’t make my acne better. I found out I was one of the 3% of people that happen to get acne from birth control. So I stopped taking it. Everyone is different but just keep that in mind. You never know if you’ll be one of the 3% of people to get it.
I would try the brand ClearStem. They have their own version of Accutane but it’s all natural and has ingredients that won’t mess with your hormones. It has tons of great reviews if you’re looking for a non toxic option, I would not recommend putting your body through birth control.
My hormonal acne came back, but birth control helps it! When I went off accutane my hair did fall out more than usual (for abt 2 months) so potentially beware of that 😆
I haven't tried accutane yet. But I took birth control for 1 year. I can say during that time my skin was pretty good. However, still small pimples. I then stopped taking birthcontrol because I got strong mood swings as a result. 3 months after I dropped them off, everything started all over again. But I would like to start with accutane now.
I had pretty bad acne when I was a teenager and birth control completely cleared it! I was considering accutane before it pulled through. I will say though I had tried more than one different type before I found one that worked for me.
birth control helped my acne but it really messed up my hormones. I went off of it and then had such bad cystic acne that I went on accutane. Accutane cleared my skin, but I still have scars from hormonal birth control. Please do your research if you’re thinking about birth control, you have to be so careful!
I went on birth control for PMDD and I had super bad bacne and it completely disappeared! I didn’t have much face acne so I can’t update on that but I’ve heard it helps :)
I went on accutane my senior year of hs (I’m now a sophomore), and it messed with me mentally, but it was really good for my skin. I ended accutane one month early. After moving to provo for school my skin has had on and off problems, I think started from the hard water there. Traveling a lot over the summer was interesting because the constant change of climate, which messed with my skin too. And now that I’m back in Provo I notice that the hard water still messes with my skin (I think) because when I shower (I replaced my shower head w a filtered head) my skin does good. But I think the main cause of my cystic acne is caused by hormones? I think it could be a gluten reaction. Idk but it’s so frustrating to have acne again after having been on accutane
I was on accutane for 7 months and i think i should've done onther month but i couldn't see my doctor. My skin was fine i only had like acne scars which woulve disappeared if i owulve continued with the treatment but at that point i was happy with my skin and with makeuo it looked fine. For like 10 months my skin was fine and then i noticed a few pimples here and there but nithing major. I think it was a big deal to me bacause i was kitreally traumatized from having acne before so i totally get you, but it from time to time i think youre gonna have one or tow pimples. And now after like a year and a half when i need to get my period or when i eat a lot of sweets or i am stressed, a few pinples will appear but i truly believed that if i woulve completed the treatment i wouldn't have to deak with it, so keep going with your treatment and i think youll be fine. I really feel you and i get that youre stressed when you see some acne appear but you skin made so much progress snd i dont think it would go back to how it was. As for birth control, to me it did nothing but make me gain weight, especially because i have some hormonal disrigulation so that that. I truly belive youre gonna be okay, try not to stress tk much about it, i know its hard but your skin already loook amazing!!!
Birth control helped my acne but it’s a blanket drug that covers other issues you have and can lead to struggling to conceive if that’s something you’re planning in life. Do a little research about it though in general, I wish I had known more about the pill and was told by the dr more instead of doing my own research
i have been off of accutane for 6 weeks now and that is also one of my biggest fears. my derm put me on tretinoin and i also take spironolactone (ive been on it for almost a year) and I have yet to get any acne- but I know it can be common to get it again :/
I tried birth control 3 times for acne. it works so well BUT it gave me the worst, most intolerable side effects (threw up at 3am daily without fail) and it ruined my stomach. tried 3 diff kinds but ik it’s diff for everyone but unfortunately wasn’t worth it for me :/
I wouldn't reccomend birth control unless very necessary. I used to take it due to irregular periods, and both times I was on it (first time lasting a year, second time two years) I eventually became moody, very irritable/ impatient, and generally did not like how I felt on it. Of course, the decison is up to you, but altering your horomones is not something I recommend, just drawing from mine and others' experiences.
Hi this will sound insane but do brush your teeth and go to sleep and once you wake up the first thing you need to do is put ur saliva on ur face ik i sound like a mad person but it works
If you have hormonal acne birth control can be really effective, cleared mine perfectly, I'm in a similar situation bc I'm coming off of it and I'm so anxious it will come back
Dear Marla, I would honestly never recommend birth control - for any reason! Birth control is one of the worst things you could do to your body. I have had friends that took it and they got chubby, grumpy, it messed up the situations 'down there' and many other problems. Please, do extensive research on the side affects of taking birth control! I wish you the best
Hello! Please research about birth control. Despite that it can clear the skin, it affects a woman's body negatively in so many other ways and for long term. Xx
Birth control has been amazing for my skin! I seriously love it, my periods are so much more chill, I can move them around travel etc and my mood/hormones have been so fine - you hear so much negative stuff about birth control but I’m glad I just tried it for myself!
Omg same! BC really diminished my acne along with stabilizing my mood that week before my menstrual cycle starts, which was very much needed
My acne did come back, it's actually pretty normal and happens to almost everyone and that's just because everyone's acne is caused by different things
Thank you for being the realest creator out there seriously. I put u on while I cook and you’re my comfort girlie

i did 80mg of accutane for 6 months. started getting acne again about 6 months post accutane though it was way less severe. just a few spots here and there. i still have acne but i manage with spironolactone, birth control, and tretinoin!
i was on accutane twice but on low doses both times… like 10-30mg because of my very sensitive skin. i do still get acne but it is no where NEAR what it was before accutane and it is much more manageable with basic skincare products (not prescription). i also feel like it’s really only hormonal acne.
the biggest difference is that my skin is A LOT less oily and has stayed that way- it is not as dry as it was on accutane (thankfully) but it is def more normal.
I’m a working doctoral student and I should try filming what I eat 😭 bc sometimes it’s hard to put time aside so cook. Enjoyed your video!
My acne came back worse immediately after accutane but I know everyone is different so I hope your experience is better!!!
When I went off accutane my hair did fall out more than usual (for abt 2 months) so potentially beware of that 😆
I started birth control to help with my acne and I’ve been on it for over 6 years and it’s helped a lot!!
Looove this
I loved this vlog ❤❤
That chicken patty looks so yummy 😊
love your videos
I had pretty bad acne when I was a teenager and birth control completely cleared it! I was considering accutane before it pulled through. I will say though I had tried more than one different type before I found one that worked for me.
what brand of birth control did you take if you don’t mind me asking??
birth control helped my acne but it really messed up my hormones. I went off of it and then had such bad cystic acne that I went on accutane. Accutane cleared my skin, but I still have scars from hormonal birth control. Please do your research if you’re thinking about birth control, you have to be so careful!
Yes please keep filming with your phone
Hi Marla! Do you have the recipe for the pumpkin sour dough cookies?
God Bless beautiful souls!! 🙏🏼🤍
i have been off of accutane for 6 weeks now and that is also one of my biggest fears. my derm put me on tretinoin and i also take spironolactone (ive been on it for almost a year) and I have yet to get any acne- but I know it can be common to get it again :/
I’ve been on birth control for four years and it has done sm for me. All my acne is gone and I get barely any cramps
youre so pretty! where is your pink sweater from?
Try face reality acne products when you get off acutane!!
I love ur shirt in the first clip? Where is it from?
I tried birth control 3 times for acne. it works so well BUT it gave me the worst, most intolerable side effects (threw up at 3am daily without fail) and it ruined my stomach. tried 3 diff kinds but ik it’s diff for everyone but unfortunately wasn’t worth it for me :/
OKAYYYYYYYY WE NEED A BOYFRIEND REVEAL!
The only thing that controlled my acne was birth control so i think it would be a good thing to ask your doctor about
Hi this will sound insane but do brush your teeth and go to sleep and once you wake up the first thing you need to do is put ur saliva on ur face ik i sound like a mad person but it works
If you have hormonal acne birth control can be really effective, cleared mine perfectly, I'm in a similar situation bc I'm coming off of it and I'm so anxious it will come back
You are so pretty ❤
Dear Marla, I would honestly never recommend birth control - for any reason! Birth control is one of the worst things you could do to your body. I have had friends that took it and they got chubby, grumpy, it messed up the situations 'down there' and many other problems. Please, do extensive research on the side affects of taking birth control! I wish you the best
Birth control helped my acne but did horrors to my overall system... I wouldn't advice it
Please don't go on BC for acne!! It might help your skin but first it's a bandaid and second it'll screw up your hormones!!
I went on birth control and it helped so much. I had cystic acne on my face, chest, and back and it is so much better. Highly recommend.
What’s your major?❤️
Sergeant Major.
Hi marla
when you want eat dates again you should try Saudi dates
Hello! Please research about birth control. Despite that it can clear the skin, it affects a woman's body negatively in so many other ways and for long term. Xx
Hi Marla, your are so beautiful, but your food , unfortunately is not healthy , too much sugar is not good.
Eat and drink shit, does acne would come back?, dont know, let me know.
My skin was completely clear for a year after Accutane and then came back 🥲
