- Between Full Moon to New Moon in December, a handful of villages along with Tapra of Bajura celebrate a festival called “Bhuwo”. This festival is celebrated by the majority of Chettri castes including other castes as a symbol of unity and to acknowledge the history, truth and reality of the place.
The origin of “Bhuwo” dates back to the 5th century BCE when Ram from Ayodhya with the help of Hanuman successfully brought back his wife Sita from Lanka, who had been kidnapped by Ravana while they were exiled from the Kingdom for 14 years. It is believed that Hanuman took 3 years to find Sita. Hence, this festival is celebrated every 3 years. After defeating Ravana, Sita was brought back to Ajodhya on New moon day taking 15 days. So “Bhuwo” is also celebrated for 15 days ending on the New moon day.
