  • It's a story you may not know. During the Holocaust, sexual violence was used to terrorize, control, and dehumanize Jewish people. In the decades after, brave survivors and witnesses recorded their traumas.
They often described brutality at the hands of the Germans and their collaborators. Some shared stories of assaults by fellow prisoners, and even by rescuers who sheltered them. As we commemorate #SexualAssaultAwarenessMonth, join us to lift these voices once silenced by stigma or shame

My mother-in-law and her two sisters were thrown into a truck abused and made slave laborers in a Nazi uniform factory. These young girls survived the war because the Jewish women imprisoned with them each gave these children a little bit of their own insufficient food ration. These women died a bit earlier so that the children lived. A prayer of thanks with every meal is given in memory of the gift of humanity and love those many Jewish women gave to my family. This prayer is now given in our fourth generation.
"Bread is Life". The girls struggle to walk almost 2000km back home took months. They arrived home 42 months after their disapearance. Their family had mourned all of that time. The girls had such shame they couldn't talk about most of their experiences, and they tried to hide their numbers, but fresh bread was broken with every meal with a prayer of thanks...
    "Bread is Life".

I experienced the same on the Jordan river side at age 7 - this time it was inflected upon me by an IDF soldier - no distinction whether Jordanian or Palestinian - just because a person is Arab - is man Arab Christina American - and faced the fear of my life !

The 1970's book "Men, Women and R*pe", by Susan Brownmiller, gives a very broad historical perceptive on r*pe as a commonly used "tool" of war. Women are/were considered the possession of men; therefore, when the women were SA'd, it was seen as an additional assault on the men. Also, there would also be the added indignation that men would be raising the perpetrator's child. This means that the impregnation of the women was seen as a goal as well.

I had a paper route when I was a teenager. It was my first job, there was a lady on my route that was a holocaust survivor. Her name was Stella, she was the nicest person on my route. I often visited with her as I delivered my papers. I found out from my Dad that she was from Poland and was sent to a concentration camp when she was young. I was studying about WW2 in school at the time and couldn’t imagine what she must have went through. Thank you for keeping these stories alive. I can’t imagine how blind people who deny the holocaust must be. I personally met a survivor of this atrocity. I pray that the world never forgets. If we do forget, it will happen again… RIP Stella, I’ve never forgotten her. I met her in 1992 in Havre Montana. I will remember her for the rest of my life!

She was sent to Auschwitz and escaped by stabbing a guard. She then joined the French Resistance to help fight against the Nazis by spying on them. She said she was smaller than the others and could got into smaller spaces. She's gone to heaven now but I will never forget her.

My grandmother was one of those that were "used" by the perpetrators during the holocaust and my grandmother was in a section called Birkenau. I don't know much about my grandmothers ordeal except from what my older brother spoke with me about. My grandmother was one of the lucky ones of the hundreds that lived long enough to be about when Auschwitz was liberated. My grandmother was in a section that was called "Birkenau" and as we all are aware that Birkenau was just one of the 5 or 6 sections of the camp. Once the camp had been liberated, and the liberators got under way with sending prisoners all over the world, my grandmother was offered either Australia or America to be sent to in order to live out their lives. My grandmother and grandfather stayed in Germany until around 1947 which was when my grandmother gave birth to my father in Germany before my grandparents and my father were sent to Australia. I did try and ask my grandmother what it was that she endured while being held in camp but she didn't really want to speak on the topic which is understandable. All that I was told by my grandmother was the fact that the prisoners were fed a grey watery liquid which was meant to be a kind of soup which had rats within the soup which the prisoners did eat because the rats were the prisoners "protein". My grandmother passed away in 2003 and I wish I was able to understand more of what she went through. Nana, I think of you day after day, and just know that I am not too far away until we meet again in Heaven.😢

This is a subject I’ve read about over the years. These victims not only were subjected to SV by the Male Germans, and collaborators, female guards, and some imprisoned women who were not Jewish perpetrated these acts of violence too.
Then Russian soldiers were also SA Jewish survivors. Theres a quote from a recent book I read, which I, unfortunately cannot remember word for word. The gist of this quote by a Russian soldier was that Germans R.& SA as a way of punishment. We are doing it as a a celebration of your freedom.
    It sickens me!!!

The United States committed HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of acts of SV against Blacks and indegenous natives for several decades; there were no wars except those instigated by the Europeanoids squatters. Blacks suffering in slavery which killed far more people under far more brutal conditions than the Nazi holocaust have been victimized by SV at far more frequent rates than holocaust victims.
If THAT'S not bad enough, the state of California is re-starting the holocaust, craftily concealing it behind the sex offender laws it created just for this purpose!

Whenever we discuss the case of mass sexual assaults we somehow along the way tend to generalise it by saying it has happened and can happen elsewhere in the world too.For example Rape of Tutsi women by Houthis, Rape of Hindu and Sikh Women during partition of India and much before by Muslim armies against Hindu women for 800 years, Japanese atrocities on conform women of Korea , Rape of half a million Bangladeshi Women by pakisthani army etc.Well all of them are despicable and bad to say the least.
But when we discuss a particular topic like Nazi sexual atrocities on Jewish women better to confine ourselves to this topic alone so no side references or talk can dilute the intensity of this particular crime.
Every crime of this nature can be discussed seperately in its context so no room for solace can be given to perpetrators by telling you are not the only one who has committed such crimes.

Survivor testimony collected, especially in Poland, within 2 years after the war was typically much more graphic and detailed. Coping mechanisms often push trauma deep down, which in some ways is beautiful and phenomenal. Dissociation allows everyone to function until pain can be processed and comforted in a safe place. I hope AI will bring early testimonies in various languages to light for posterity. I heard a Jewish Holocaust survivor say every survivor was sexually assaulted at least once during or after the war. Thank you, researchers, for bringing this subject more into the light.
