It Happened One Night is an amazing movie. Neither Gable nor Colbert wanted to do the movie. The head of Gable's studio loaned him out and forced him to do it. Colbert was finishing her third straight movie and wanted a well-earned vacation. She was shocked when the studio met what was then an outrageous salary demand. When she read the script, she told her friends it was going to bomb. Yet, the movie basically created the Rom-Com genre. It swept the Big 5 at the Oscars, giving Gable his only statuette of his career. He did not win for the Big G. The hitchhiking scene created a trope that has been done again and again. My wife and I had the privilege of seeing a restored print right before Covid struck in a theater in our town. It was marvelous.
Imitation Of Life (1959), Seven Brides For Seven Brothers (1954), ,The Creature From The Black lagoon (1954), The Bad Seed (1956), On The Waterfront (1954) & The Blackboard Jungle (1955).
All About Eve captured the world of theatre, earned 14 Oscar nominations (won 6, including Best Picture), and set the stage (pun intended) for similar-themed stories about competition, gaslighting, and payback.
It's so satisfying to see the most iconic roles of the most iconic stars on here. Loved seeing the likes of James Dean, Bette Davis, Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Vivien Leigh, etc. get their entries one after another. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Classic movies are so unique in film history. The fact that they’re black and white adds a beauty and mystery that modern day movies can’t capture. They were full of so much drama and romance that movies today can’t even dream of capturing. The acting was perfection, the soundtracks were unforgettable, the costumes were beautiful….Gah! These movies were all so good and classy
The tap sequence featuring Kelly and O'Connor, "Moses," is absolutely jaw dropping. The hours of practice to create the synchronization must have taken weeks.
The African Queen Inherit the Wind Thin Man To Kill a Mockingbird Red River My Darling Clementine Stagecoach The Little Dictator Time Machine Ghost and Mrs Muir Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein Dracula The Phantom of the Opera (silent) Miracle of 34th Street Christmas Carol with Alastir Sim Holiday Inn White Christmas Citizen Kane wouldn't even make my top 100
Roman Holiday is the only Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck movie I have ever seen. Shocking I feel like but they were both so perfect in it. I’ve only seen it once but I loved it
I did not envy you this task! Hard to decide, so well done! I agree with most of the choices (and those I don't are really just my personal opinion, not appreciation of the art form), but...I do have a couple suggestions. 😁 To Kill a Mocking Bird and A Gentleman's Agreement were both VERY important early films. They were groundbreaking and are still relevant. While I agree with inclusion of Singing in the Rain, I think Royal Wedding would have better suited your reason. Auntie Mame is another that broke a lot of barriers--quietly, subtly, and hilariously! Important to note that this movie was solely centered around a woman. There were plenty in classic films that centered around men, but very few that focused only on a woman. So, take 'em or leave them, they're just my opinion! 😄
Top 20 Best Classic Hollywood Movies of All Time 20. Rebel Without a Cause (1955) Box Office: $622.9 million 19. All About Eve (1950) Box Office: $1.438 billion 18. There's one glaring omission from this list--John Wayne. Forget for a moment that his movies, which many critics sneer at, bankrolled Hollywood for much of this era. For the dismissive idea that he only played himself. I hope Jack Nicholson never says that out loud. Three of the Duke's movies: Stagecoach (1939), The Searchers (1956), and The Quiet Man (1952) feature Wayne playing against type. Johnny Ringo is a gunfighter who falls in love with a prostitute. Sean Thornton is haunted man leaving America after killing an opponent in a boxing match. Ethan Edwards is a howling bigot that has the bad form to fall in love with his brother's wife, which she returned but never acted on it. In the end, he returns the girl (young Natalie Wood) to her family but has lost what little humanity that survived the Civil War and wanders off into the desert. It should be no surprise that all three were directed by the great John Ford. FYI, Ford was on Midway Island filming a documentary for the war department in June of 1942, when the Battle of Midway happened. Ford was wounded while trying to film as much of the fighting as he could.
Peter Jackson used some of the techniques Wells pioneered in CK for the practical effects in the LOTR trilogy 60 years later. How's that for a movie holding up?
Honorable mention goes out to the 4 films starring Elvis Presley - Love Me Tender, Loving You, Jailhouse Rock and King Creole. These 4 classic films are among his very best cinematic achievements, and could easily form the basis for an excellent film festival.
Can we all have a laugh at not being able to differentiate between sepia town and B&W for wizard of oz when the script says b&w and yet they blatantly show sepia tone???😂😂😂😂
Bringing Up Baby A Streetcar Named Desire Niagara On the Waterfront Seven Samuri His Girl Friday The Women Top Hat The Seven Year Itch A Star is Born (Judy Garland)
Bad thing Hollywood now seems to embrace the mind set that all these movies are evil, incarnate, Rachel Ziegler’s comments about the original Snow White anyone😂

Have you made a video of the movies you should watch for the upcoming Christmas season?
‘Gone with the Wind’ = One of the best Hollywood films ever made.
My most favorite line is “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.”
😁
THE best film ever made!
Classic Hollywood is fantastic. Thanks MsMojo for giving these films the highlight.

Solid list. I think I'd definitely add The Ten Commandments and/or Ben-Hur. Two all-time greats.
Decent list, but I would have included The Best Years of Our Lives, one of the first movies to deal with PTSD.
I have a growing list of classic movies I’m going to watch. I’ll add this one💯
Eu incluiria Wuthering Heights, How Green Was My Valley, Frankenstein, 4snd Street e Gilda
Casablanca
"Here's looking at you kid"
Imitation Of Life (1959), Seven Brides For Seven Brothers (1954), ,The Creature From The Black lagoon (1954), The Bad Seed (1956), On The Waterfront (1954) & The Blackboard Jungle (1955).
“I coulda had class. I coulda been a contender. I coulda been somebody.” - Marlon Brando.
All About Eve captured the world of theatre, earned 14 Oscar nominations (won 6, including Best Picture), and set the stage (pun intended) for similar-themed stories about competition, gaslighting, and payback.
I Love It's A Wonderful Life
‘The Wizard of Oz’ movie turned 85 this year.
😁👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Released the same year as "Gone with the Wind".
Beautiful movie
“Here’s looking at you kid.” ❤
The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) belongs on the list

Casablanca is the best romantic movie ever
The dialogue in these movies were so slick and so perfect
I would quibble on the order of the rankings but, on the whole, a superb list of must-see Hollywood Classics. Well done!
Classic movies from 1920s-1950s
One classic movie you forgot: Wuthering Heights, starring Merle Oberon and Lawrence Olivier.
The tap sequence featuring Kelly and O'Connor, "Moses," is absolutely jaw dropping. The hours of practice to create the synchronization must have taken weeks.
The African Queen
Inherit the Wind
Thin Man
To Kill a Mockingbird
Red River
My Darling Clementine
Stagecoach
The Little Dictator
Time Machine
Ghost and Mrs Muir
Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein
Dracula
The Phantom of the Opera (silent)

The Wizard Of Oz maybe a kids movie, its also the darkest classic fantasy film
Some likes it hot, Roman Holiday and Singing In The Rain are my favorite classic movies and it makes me really happy that they are on the list ❤❤❤ ❤
I’ve been waiting for more of Classic Hollywood content. Thank you so much!! ❤️🙏
Happy monday morning, Rebecca, take care and God bless you. Greetings from Colombia to you as well.
"Rosebud" one of the best lines of all time 😊
Worst movie ever!
The Wizard of Oz is my all time favorite.
There is a certain time to watch these movies. they're so relaxing
Where the Corn is Green with the incomparable Bette Davis.
Excellent 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Sunset Blvd not in Top 10? Really?
Fantastic choices!
I know it doesn't belong here and could be on another list, but The Spiral Staircase is a great one.
Added this vid to Likes. :o)
I’ll add that on to my new Must Watch classics list
Loved the list! 💖
"It was beauty who killed the beast"
King Kong (1933)
@@ryanangelastro504 Yes
Loved "King Kong" since I was 12. Saw the Peter Jackson in theaters a year later.
@@darthstarkiller1912 I like that one too, but I think I would prefer the monsterverse one
Amazing job on the video Ms Mojo and Rebecca. They just don't make movies like this anymore, I love the classics. 🥰
Roman Holiday is the only Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck movie I have ever seen. Shocking I feel like but they were both so perfect in it. I’ve only seen it once but I loved it
3 of my favorite films of all time are on this list! Although Gone With The Wind should have been #1!!
I must thank those movies. Without then; we couldn't experiment the cinema as an art instead of a distraction.
The original ‘King Kong’ movie after 91 years.
Yeah I know it is Kong's 91st anniversary
Great list- but I'd also add To Kill a Mockingbird.
My personal favorite Golden Age Hollywood movies from each decade are 1958’s Touch of Evil and 1940’s Fantasia. The 1930s is still undecided for me.
#9 NGL I just spit out water and laughed at Jack Lemmon in a dress saying he was engaged
#5 There are NO criticisms to be had about this masterpiece

Miracle on 34th street (1994) films is a remake of a 1947 film
You forgot the classic horror movies though
King Kong certainly counts, though I would have included The Bride of Frankenstein as well.
@@Aratak711 And Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Wolfman, Creature from the black lagoon and The Blob
Psycho was on here.
vertigo not one of my favorites, and i might disagree with some of the rankings- but all great movies and definitely the best
Roman Holiday wow, this movie was fun and sad in one movie. Love Audrey Hepburn.

All about Eve should be higher on the list, I think.
Battleship Potemkin (1925) its been 99 years since this movie was released

12 Angry Men is way too low...
I don’t get the love for Citizen Kane. I’ve seen it multiple times and it leaves me cold.
You missed Adventures of Robin Hood-Errol Flynn, Ninotchka-Greta Garbo…too many to list
To Kill a Mockingbird...
Humphrey Bogart was the best!
Put gone with the wind and put the Day the Earth stood still
Classic Horror Movie Monsters.

i wonder that is the classic western or war movie or maybe childern movies (not only cartoon version) around that time. that is also wondering?
