Ronnie James Dio is a heavy metal vocal god. RIP. Forever immortalized from his work in Black Sabbath(Check out Heaven and hell), Rainbow(Check out stargazer), and Dio(check out Last in line)
To really appreciate Dio's voice, listen to his time with the band Rainbow. The Song "Catch the Rainbow" studio and especially the Munich 1977 live version captures how good his voice really was. The song is beautiful and a softer sound.
Hallo, i am nearly 60 and DIO was my man since Rainbow 40-45 years ago, then the time with black sabbath..this man is LEGEND. Thx for the reaction, greets from Germany
Same here man, turned 60 recently and I have been a fan most of my life. The man is a Metal God with a remarkable voice and career. Top 3 bands from that time for me were Black Sabbath, Dio and Ozzy in that order...
Hey, nice reaction! The album this came out on is also called Holy Diver and it came out in 1983, so the video was probably '83 or '84. You just listened to the man that popularized the metal sign that is popular among fans of metal. In an interview he said that his Grandmother used to walk to where his Grandfather worked to take him his lunch every day and he would walk with her. He saw her doing that sign and asked her what she was doing and she said that if somebody was giving you the evil eye you could use it to ward it off. She also told him you could also use it to give someone the evil eye. Somewhere along the way people started calling the sign the devil horns. Then he said that when he became lead singer of Black Sabbath he wanted something to use onstage because Ozzy used to raise both arms and do the peace sign (index and middle finger raised) and so he decided to use the sign that he saw his Grandmother use.
Lars Ulrich on Dio: "Ronnie, your voice impacted and empowered me, your music inspired and influenced me, and your kindness touched and moved me. Thank you. Much love, Lars"
What can you say. Ronnie James Dio was a force of nature. His sonic power was unreal. I’m told he was loved unconditionally by his loyal fans. When he passed I remember there was this gathering of people who travelled to memorialize Dio and they came out in this really great crowd of Dio devotees. It seemed fitting.
In this video the Guitar solo was cut short but its amazing. Great reaction! I like how you pick up details. ‘I speed at night’ is my favorite Dio song
I just realized after discovering your channel tonight and watching the videos of the songs I love, most feature dead artists. That obviously means I’m getting OLD. I love your videos.
Same...Dio is a GOD but to add Vivian...that made dreams come true ...the 2 times i saw him between Vivian and Jake E Lee...the Vivian show stands at the top on the mountain!
You were so (biss)cute when this 40 year old piece of art freaked you out after the music sets in. I couldn't stop grinning to be honest... I am defininetly someone who searches for new bands and new songs all day long. I don't like to listen to songs that I've heard 100 times 20 years ago. But sometimes there are these small pearls, these pioneering songs you can listen to nowadays without unpleasently smelling and feeling the dust of the ages - just like the "Holy Diver".
A Band called "Lilliac does a cover of this song that is quite remarkable. They are a family band. The parents are from Transylvania originally. They moved to America when they were kids and they met in church.
This was 1983. The first Dio album also titled 'Holy Diver' was released that year, and he got on MTV in the early days. The big single/video off the album was 'Rainbow in the dark'. His biggest Dio record was 'The last in line' released in 1984. It had the singles/videos 'The last in line' ... 'Mystery' ... 'We rock'... 🤘🤘
Dio plays the villain in the QUEENSRYCHE concept album 'Operation Mindcrime 2'. He and Geoff Tate have an EPIC vocal fight. Two if the most powerful male voices in rock. I highly recommend it, and anything from Operation Mindcrime.
Unfortunately, it's the only great moment on an otherwise utterly terrible album... That purported to be the sequel to one of the greatest rock albums ever recorded.
RONNIE JAMES DIO singing in Pre- Rainbow, Rainbow, Saabbath, Dio all eras including 90s and early 00s and H&H LIVE is an absolute treat. Video is early 83 i think. Even then and always Ronnie always put emphasis and more importance to music and all audio. Where is this lady from?
If you want to see an insanely good live performance with Dio, watch the performance of a song named Mistreated played by Rainbow in 1977. One of the best live performances ever
He gave his own take on an already classic track. And Ritchie was hyped in that performance as he’d been released from police custody and the concert began ridiculously late.
Just wanna say that I love to see your reactions! 🙂You know music and give great comments! Dio was the Master, and still is when it comes to metal! RIP Ronnie. So much good music here!! Check out more! 🙂
Sadly, this is a shortened version of the guitar solo. Vivian Campbell was the guitarist for Dio's first three solo albums, and he was incredible! Perhaps his best solos are on the Dio songs "Don't Talk To Strangers" and "Last in Line," both of which I strongly recommend. God bless!!
With how you are enjoying discovering these old classics I would like to recommend two goodies that are amongst my favourites. First is: David Bowie - Life on Mars Second: Eagles - Hotel California. Just lean back and marvel at the music and enjoy. Thanks for another good reaction and keep on enjoying yourself :D
Bisscute thanks for bringing us my all time favorite metal voice. An absolute legend. You talked about how times have changed. In the early 80's I attended a private Lutheran Christian School. I cant remember how many times I was sent home to change my shirts. I pretty much wore concert shirts every day from Dio, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and other Metal favs I had seen live. At school the were considered Demonic or serving the devil. Anyway keep bringing the noise Bisscute. May I suggest Stargazer with Ronnie James while with the band Rainbow
I cant agree, he is often ranked at the very top and considered one of the greatest metal singers of all time and rightfully so, he had it all. Many of the legendary metal singers look up to him. He was very big in the 80´s and this record sold double platinum and is considered one of the greatest metal albums of all time. Its certainly one of my favourite albums and Dio has meant so much to me both as a musician and listener. Rock In Peace Ronnie James Dio.
