- Vicki Butler-Henderson is checking out the new hatcback model from Peugeot, the 206. The Peugeot 206 is a supermini car (B-segment) designed and produced by the French car manufacturer Peugeot since May 1998 as a replacement to the Peugeot 205. Developed under the codename T1, it was released in September 1998 in hatchback form, which was followed by coupé cabriolet (206 CC) in September 2000, station wagon (206 SW) in September 2001, and a sedan version (206 SD) in September 2005.

Peugeot's modern small car classic was a pearler, around eight million copies were sold throughout the world and that is a remarkable achievement.

My first car, I loved mine even though it was a 1.1 and only produced 59bhp. Fun fact: I met Vicki at a classic car show in 2019 and she asked what car I had, I said a Peugeot 206 and she proper turned her nose up at it, quickly changing the subject. In hindsight, I wish I'd have replied to her "You know, we all can't afford a nice, flashy car. Especially on my wages and being a 21 year old driver!".
Doesn't really surprise me. Quite a lot of TV personalities appear to be great on screen but just absolutely awful in real life
It is still a very good car. Really well designed.
It still looks quite modern in my opinion.
A revolution in small car design, biggest selling car in Europe for it's entire lifespan, Rally pedigree, Gti models smoke the 205 to say nothing of the later 180hp version. A maligned car doomed to be compared to the 205 it's whole life, a car that, it was faster than, safer than, better built than, didn't get dented by leaves and managed to idle too. I owned a 205gti and a 106Gti and a 206 Gti, each fun in their own way, the 106 was my favorite simply because, like the 206 it was faster, safer and easier to live with.
Was honestly a decent car for its time.
Still got an 05 1.1 norust, totally reliable
I think it was quite revolutionary as at that time all cars were still quite boxy. Sadly the French have germanized their style.
I loved french design, but not when going to service.
Renault design has gone Japanese though, and that's because of Nissan.
I think that Citroen is the only one who keep the originality
Boxy?? Not in _my_ 1990s, where car design was devoid of any edges. Agree on the Germanization, though. Every hatchback wants to be ze Audi A3... that even rhymes a bit. :-)
Best car Peugeot ever made, Have had 2 of them, still got 1. My dad has also had 2. Can't fault these at all, especially the diesels.
Had one as my second car 18 years ago until I stacked it into a hedge and wrote it off!
The fact that the 205 has been so successful and enduring,to the point that it produced its own successor,has got to seriously piss Scotty Kilmer off.
206s are great little cars and I own two of them...(one is a Roland Garros and is very well appointed)...love 'em both. And they still look modern. Make sure to buy a 1.6 litre 5 door version and unlike German cars these nifty things never rust. Fantastique !!

The 106, 306 and 406 were surprisingly good cars. I remember being excited to drive the 206... until I did.
I remember when these started being more affordable used buys around 2004 onwards I noticed it was mainly hot girls driving these. Then they moved on to Minis and Fiat 500s
This was a very very good car, smooth riding, reliable and safe for it's time..sharp handling compared to rivals and extremely economical. VBH yet again being completely useless as a motoring journalist, meatier??! Jeez, the 205 was tin foil, it didn't rust but it didn't protect either, move on people, the 207 was a good car too but because the tupperware 205 existed it never shone....
I love this car. Since I played Need for Speed Underground 1 when I was younger, that was and is today too my favorite car. You can Tuning this car so sexy like no car could do wowowowowoooooow

I have a 206 Sport and it sure is a lot fun to drive of tight, twisty roads. Just as Vicky said, the chassie really has superb handling. Goes really well on the high way too. I love the sleek styling and I think it still looks better than all new Peugeots, who to me has gotten too angular, angry-looking and full of weird lines that fight each other.

I thought it was a horrible driving car . Nothing flowed well the clutch was a guessing game and paired to the revy 1.4 from the sport version, it was unintuitive and nasty to drive

2:24 Front seat storage box? I have never seen this before. I wonder which 206s have this. I don't think that mine has this.
Only on some of the non sport front passenger seats usually in mid level trims. My 2003 built GLX had it.
I wonder if it's facelift.
My '04 206 doesn't have that storage box.
