Having been a carp angler since the hair rig first became known in the very early 80s, and I know how much more effective it was compared to popular rigs such as side hooking, it was revolutionary. The impact of the Ronnie rig is nowhere near as game changing or revolutionary as the hair rig was. A stupid comparison, and one only someone who never experienced the arrival of the hair rig would make. There are dozens of rigs in use today, and to say one is streets ahead of other effective ones is pure speculation and down to subjectivity. Yes, the Ronnie catches loads of fish. But if every man and his dog is using them then fish will be caught on them. And over time and over use any rig will lose effectiveness. So please crack on recommending its use to the masses and the unthinking, and then that can leave other overlooked or other trains of thought to give the edge to other anglers who don’t follow the crowd like sheep just because some ‘bloke’ who makes youtube videos says its a game changer!
Idk. Most use it with pop up, I use it with a bottom bait, any lead set up, with or without pva bag. I can't see how it'll lose its effectiveness. If so, how are carp still caught on everyday hair rigs? I don't always use them, but when I do....I know I am fishing, and that takes the worry out of my fishing.
Different rigs for different situations caught fish on Ronnies ,stiff hinged and combies all do pretty much the same thing .The hair rig thing was a daft statement though
I've tried all the 'new' rigs and always go back to blowback rigs, mainly the DF. Did a couple of years on only popups/rigs but always find I have much higher catch rates on bottom baits.
The biggest innovation after the hair rig in fishing has to be bite alarms ! Amy one remember mr crabtree using potato as bait before boillies? 40 years ago hooks were jusy not sharp ! I remember trying to put maggots on and struggling! No wonder why i never caught. You either love the Ronnie rig or dont ! Its the Marmite off fishing.
Poor old Carpology what ever vids they put out they get slagged to the max. Lads I like your vids, ye may have seen before but there are new anglers out there ( hopefully) coming through. You carp fishing experts perhaps rather than writing about it ought to be on the bank fishing. 😉Yes I know what I’ve just done there. 😂😂😂 Perhaps we ought to say you can’t make a comment until you put your Uk and abroad PB up so we know if we can take you seriously. Oh and please take off the sling it weighs 4 to 5 lb 😀😂🤣
The Ronnie rig or Shot on the hair rig - Can’t get on with them. Just too many components on one rig. Where’s the simple stuff that still catches fish … The ultimate rig is what you have confidence in .. what u use and if it’s the above so be it. The wheel re-invented !
The Ronnie rig , or the pointless rip off rig .its a Dave lane 360 rig with just a slight adjustment on the swivel attachment,I honestly don’t know that anyone can belive that this is in any shape or form a game changing original set up ,all these type of d rigs , multi rigs all do the same thing there’s nothing new in any of these designs ,it’s just another rig with lots of bits attached. Over 40 years years ago lenny Middleton and Kevin maddocks fished with a bait not attached to the hook (hair rig ) everything since is just refinements of a theme .
It all came about as refinements to the hinged stiff rig and was the the same group of anglers that came up with the stiff and then the rig Dave Lane was shown which at the time was called the spinney doo da rig in early 2000s which was a Ronnie to all intents and purposes just opened the eye of the hook to fit the eye of swivel then closed back up, Dave made an adaptation by putting the eye of swivel over the shank instead which we called the "spinney doo da wiv Dave doings" fast forward 10yrs and everyone called it a Ronnie rig it was all around Horton, and Wraysbury in early 2000s way before any Ronnie got hold of it 🤷♂️ alot of rigs evolve in parallel due to similar minds working with similar materials on the same problems and very often come to the same conclusions but I can remember the effect that the hinged stiff rig had back in the 90s and also the effect of supple braid in the 80s it all comes around again with newer components as now I see alot of combi rigs which I used in the early 90s made with multistrand for the supple end, read carp fever and the basis for all modern rigs are in there just using the materials that were avaliable at the time

Absolutely 💯

I only use a simple supple braid hair rig 4”-7” with either a wafter or bottom bait and sure it get tangled every so often but it works just fine 😂
Aahh! a Ronnie rig, I've never seen a video on how to make these before.🤔😉

What a load of bollocks, l use 30lb clear amnesia with crimps 👌

Looks good but I don't think there is enough bits of plastic tube, shrink tube, swivels and tungsten in that rig! Must be rubbish! 🤣

'The ultimate rig is what you have confidence in' very true indeed John! Which is exactly why there's so many rig designs out there :)
It does make me laugh when people refer to 'tying' a ronnie rig. Its almost like lego puting it together. Especially with the pre tied booms.
Dear God, scraping the barrel for content now 😩
The ‘ fucked up carp fishing rig ‘

That looks like a christmas tree. What is wrong with a simple, non complicated rig without puttin 10 million plastics and other shits on the hook
You don’t want your hook holds in the scissors 🤣
