I'm an above average movement controller/console player that recently has been playing on PC. I've never done a tapstrafe in my life, unpopular opinion I guess but it doesn't bother me to die to someone who put in the time to learn extremely difficult advanced strafe patterns and beaming while doing so. I respect when someone has mastered it, they deserve the advantage they get from it. Not a nerf because someone's ego got hurt that they were better.

Apex Legends at the end of the day is a shooter first, in a shooter game it is necessary to be able to anticipate, react and then execute aiming mechanics. Movement like 180 degree tap strafing or neo-strafing that causes the player's character to rapidly change directions multiple times mid-air without losing momentum, is inherently unpredictable to a human user as it defies the "intuitive perception of real life physics" that our brains comprehend. Naturally, with an equally inhuman system like AA for a while there was a tenuous balance, an unspoken agreement that allowed both inhuman defying systems to co-exist. To better balance this relationship, the devs logically have to tweak both the lurching strength and AA until the most fair balance can be achieved. Realistically it is impossible to achieve a balance that everyone agrees with, but as was shown by this update some sort of trackable metric analysis from Respawn indicated that with the current AA value, lurch was too strong to be fair. Skill issue: I think it's well documented on youtube that when switching from one input to the other, neither one was easier or harder to learn than the other. Anecdotally speaking, when taking two players one on each input that never or rarely have touched their respective "counter" input, the controller player switching to MnK for the first time will always be better right from the beginning because of the more intuitive and responsive aiming system a mouse and arm provides rather than a joystick and thumb does. Objectively speaking, in terms of aiming at "unintuitive movement tech" there is no true mechanical skill involved because of it's inherent unpredictability, and the reaction time required to even begin to track your target is beyond human scales to make it worth using up ammo in your gun's magazine. It's best instead to wait for the neo strafe tapstrafe to return to a predictable state. In summary, both input methods have their own sets of artificial aids designed to balance gameplay. MnK has lurching, aim stabilization, aim smoothing and better customization (which I chose not to discuss). Controller players have aim assist. The key is to find a balance that allows players to enjoy the game regardless of their chosen input method. It's an ongoing process, and developers continually work to refine these systems. To badly want lurch strength to return to what it was pre-update, you must be willing to also return some power back to the other input in order to maintain the competitive balance, 0.4 aim assist I agree was too strong, but 0.3 pre-update was too weak, as of right now the devs might have found the best balance yet. As a reward for reading this far and re-considering your stance on the matter I will leave you with this food for thought. Since it is realistically impossible to find a perfect balance between artificial aids on MnK and Controller, should cross-platform play even be supported in high level competitive multiplayer games like apex?

If the devs truly cared about player enjoyment they would do something about sbmm. Community Sentiment: The gaming community often focuses on the more visible advantages, which in this case is aim assist for controllers. However, developers are aware of the need for balance and often tweak these systems to ensure fairness.
Elaborating on my rage-bait opinion:
As you know, MnK players in apex get an input exclusive movement tech known as "lurch" which is one of the primary sources for all movement tech within the game including tap-strafing, and neo strafing. While movment is integral to the apex experience, every players should agree that it shouldn't get in the way of competitive fairness in an online multiplayer like apex. The way the apex dev team seems to have made up their mind on after this update, and the way I think is that any movement tech that can be described as "unintuitive to a human beings perception of physics" should be modified to make it more predictable. Apex Legends at the end of the day is a shooter first, in a shooter game it is necessary to be able to anticipate, react and then execute aiming mechanics. Movement like 180 degree tap strafing or neo-strafing that causes the player's character to rapidly change directions multiple times mid-air without losing momentum, is inherently unpredictable to a human user as it defies the "intuitive perception of real life physics" that our brains comprehend. Naturally, with an equally inhuman system like AA for a while there was a tenuous balance, an unspoken agreement that allowed both inhuman defying systems to co-exist. To better balance this relationship, the devs logically have to tweak both the lurching strength and AA until the most fair balance can be achieved. Realistically it is impossible to achieve a balance that everyone agrees with, but as was shown by this update some sort of trackable metric analysis from Respawn indicated that with the current AA value, lurch was too strong to be fair.
Skill issue:
I think it's well documented on youtube that when switching from one input to the other, neither one was easier or harder to learn than the other. Anecdotally speaking, when taking two players one on each input that never or rarely have touched their respective "counter" input, the controller player switching to MnK for the first time will always be better right from the beginning because of the more intuitive and responsive aiming system a mouse and arm provides rather than a joystick and thumb does. Objectively speaking, in terms of aiming at "unintuitive movement tech" there is no true mechanical skill involved because of it's inherent unpredictability, and the reaction time required to even begin to track your target is beyond human scales to make it worth using up ammo in your gun's magazine. It's best instead to wait for the neo strafe tapstrafe to return to a predictable state.
In summary, both input methods have their own sets of artificial aids designed to balance gameplay. MnK has lurching, aim stabilization, aim smoothing and better customization (which I chose not to discuss). Controller players have aim assist. The key is to find a balance that allows players to enjoy the game regardless of their chosen input method. It's an ongoing process, and developers continually work to refine these systems.
To badly want lurch strength to return to what it was pre-update, you must be willing to also return some power back to the other input in order to maintain the competitive balance, 0.4 aim assist I agree was too strong, but 0.3 pre-update was too weak, as of right now the devs might have found the best balance yet.
As a reward for reading this far and re-considering your stance on the matter I will leave you with this food for thought. Since it is realistically impossible to find a perfect balance between artificial aids on MnK and Controller, should cross-platform play even be supported in high level competitive multiplayer games like apex?

@@KadandEve yup cause the minority 0.01% of movement players killed the game, and not the countless cash grabs, 20 tick servers for SIX YEARS, recycled game modes and skins, horrific, unbalanced meta changes, AWFUL sbmm, and a constantly changing garbage ranked system.
Console players have their own lobbies, so they don’t have to worry about it, and pc controller players choose to plug in a roller.
If the devs truly cared about player enjoyment they would do something about sbmm. If you’re bad enough and can’t compete with tap strafing, then you should be in lobbies where the players don’t know how to do it. But instead EA has poured every resource into milking the player base dry. Punishing mechanics in THE MOVEMENT SHOOTER is outrageous.
