Thanks for sharing the link Babz, this is helpful! Can you give us any guidelines for the effect of elevation? If I look at the formulas, I am not seeing it being used. The big downhill holes seem to be more effected by the wind. Thx
Hey Fred! Typically uphill shots will affect less and downhill shots affect more. Quantifying this into numbers would be a player by player basis since people use different clubs/balls. For a severe downhill shot like wolf creek, I will add a grid of aim depending on my timing. BUT you have to keep in mind where the trouble is. Especially #8, it may call for 6-7 grids of aim which is pointer in water but I will purposefully aim less and misding into the wind to ensure I land on the green and not the rough/water.
@@Babzilla33, I completed a couple of rounds using this wind calculator with excellent results, one of them being high winds on St Andy’s! Just the tool I was looking for. I will experiment with the large elevation holes as you suggest.

Hello there. Thank you for the calculator. I'm still trying to tweak here and there. I hope that this is not a stupid question but I notice on your approach shot calculator that there is a distinction between headwind and tailwind ie -225 and 180 and it's effects on shot power. However, when you enter in wind direction In the wind calculator there is not. Is it something to do with the formula? I know that headwinds affect the ball more negatively than tailwind help it. It seems like a headwind would keep the ball from moving left to right then if you had a tailwind. Maybe I'm totally wrong. Whoever came up with the formula is much smarter than I am when it comes to advanced math. If you didn't come up with it, I understand if you don't know. I was just curious. Thanks again, enjoy the videos!
I offered the wind calculator without this feature for those who already have their own method of calculating shot power. In actuality, headwinds cause more ball movement than tailwinds because the wind is affecting forward movement. Therefore the ball will not only not travel as far but the wind will create more “lift” and therefore more time in the air=increased sideways movement. If you look in the formulas for the wind calculator, there is a number “300” at the beginning. You can change this number to acquire more or less grid movements depending on your clubs/balls/ game play style.
Hi Ross, Your aim calculator is excellent! I have been very frustrated playing the ITC weekly 9 hole tournament due to the very high winds. During the round today (after a double bogey) I came close to quitting the round and no longer playing that tournament in the future since it always has extreme winds. Then I remembered downloading your aim aid. From there on I birdied all but one hole (par) to finish the round. Thank you for willingly sharing your WGT tools to help everyone. Not everyone is so forthcoming with their tools, even in my club. I have a question about the wind direction protractor you have on the spreadsheet. It has the north and south degrees at zero and the east and west as 90. All other examples I’ve seen elsewhere show the opposite with N/S as 100 and E/W as O. Just wondering.
My calculator simply determines the strength of the wind for aim only, which is why north and south are 0 since there’s no aim needed. When you see others with 100 as north or south, that is indicating how much effect the wind will have on distance. Since 0 being east and west doesn’t affect distance. Edit: big congrats on the birdies!!!
Now I understand! I was using your aiming protractor with JSmither’s distance calc and was getting weird distances. Now I know why. Thank you for the quick response. I have watched all your TH-cam and Twitch videos, and my game is continuing to improve. Cannot thank you enough!
