  • @zachharris3040

So, I like this song a lot. It's light, fast paced, and has sentimental core that is aimed at young men. Basically the message is to keep your head up when someone does you wrong. And part of coping with being wronged is leaning on your friends. If you call this corny, my question for you is what isn't corny? I find this song admittedly immature and they are in no way hiding that. But country and hip hop music are both filled with phonies who try to fit certain images mainstream listeners will respond to because let's face it their fan's music taste are the lowest common denominator. That pandering to audiences is a lot cornier to me. I''m pretty defensive but if you gonna give the negativity expect the blowback.

This was the song that changed my whole life. Blink 182 was the band that made me love punk rock music. Dammit has so much sentimental value. If you grew up during that time you’d understand what I mean. They were so much fun and goofy but also would hit you with some more mature songs that were on point. This was when punk was rocking and rolling best era for this style of music.

That DI song which T mentioned is actually pretty awesome :) Here's the thing, though, punk rock goes in different sub-genres and eras. DI, for example, is from the American underground of the early 1980s, the topics in the songs of that era were usually much darker but also with a dash of oddball humor. Social commentary done in a clever manner was pretty common. The other thing is that most underground bands of that period had no hope of getting mainstream attention nor airplay, so they just let it all hang out and did whatever they wanted. While growing-up I was instantly drawn to the politically incorrect nature and absurdity in it all not to mention some of the rage it could invoke. Later on toward the 90s I didn't mind Green Day nor Blink 182, but they were more of a different take on being an outcast and such and in a more poppy way. Poppy-punk always existed - Descendants and Hard-Ons to quickly name two from the earlier 80s, so it just depends upon what style you like.

Blink 182 started out as a joke band. It was never about the money or fame for them, just all fun and games. They purposefully didn't take anything seriously. Everything was just for fun and to joke around. But that is what made them popular. They still have a few joke songs but they are a little more serious about their music today. But they still just want to have fun with it all too.

To me punk has always been the most shallow of all music. The exact same chords, melodies, and worst of all, the same sneering "British" vocals. The only value it had was either political, or it could be humourous.
This early Blink song isn't very good, but they got a new drummer shortly after named Travis Barker, and he was electric. One of the best rock drummers of the last 25 years or so. Check out their video for "First Date" to see their humourous side, and to hear Travis on fire. It's a great song.

Mostly western states, but also Kentucky where our kinfolk are from. US Army M.I. Analyst here. And thank you for your service as well. I've only traveled across Texas once by Greyhound and it was the longest 2.5 days! I didn't see anything but horizon, oil wells, cows, and cities flaunting their charm from the 1950's. I was glad to get to New Mexico and Arizona, even to California at the time. At least there were mountains. That dull horizon actually made me car sick on the bus, sorry to say about Texas. Just an impression. I'm sure to you it is nice as home. I'm used to forests and mountains and rivers full of fish and wild bears, mountain lions, wolves, etc...
