At 70, I got diagnosed with Diabetes so I went on a Keto diet in July. Definitely noticed better brain function. I don’t have trouble with word recall anymore. This is great.
A Dr. told me my husband had dementia. I didn't believe him. I took my husband to Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA. His first appointment was 4 hours long with a team of doctors. He had an MRI and found he had a mini stroke and did NOT have dementia. He also had very low folic acid levels. He's been in speech therapy. Always get a second opinion. I highly recommend Tufts Medical Center in Boston.
Thank you Dr Berg. My father died of Dementia! I am hoping and prayer that keto and IF will prevent me from dying the same way 🙏 I appreciate you so much for helping us stay healthy. You helped me lose 93lbs, cure my insomnia, migrains and back pain. You helped change my life 💙

My mom died from dementia in October, I know it was because she had very poor eating habits, never exercised, didn't take vitamins or supplements. It matters. Take care of yourselves.
There had been a study on the effects of coconut oil on the brain particularly in relation to dementia. A doctor was alarmed by her husband's rapidly increasing level of dementia and looked into a study which gave evidence of the therapeutic properties in coconut oil. So she included quite large amounts of coconut oil in her husband's diet and within a short amount of time her husband showed a marked improvement, in fact began to regain the ability to do tasks he had stopped being able to do. She gives talks on the subject.
Michelle is correct. Unfortunstely the same doctor posted updates on her husband and there were bad news. It was sad, initially the oil appeares to be working Wonders. Please keep vit D levels in check folks, ita very important for this.
I’ve been doing this for two years and a long time friend of mine asked me yesterday “what did you do to improve your memory?” I was shocked I just got better. For the next two hours we talked about low carb, she said I gave her hope that she can get healthy again. Love ❤️ this stuff.
I lost my dad to dementia August 2021 he was 90. He had had dementia for about 15 years. I can’t tell you how extremely painful this is to watch I am his youngest of six and dad was a mathematician he was brilliant very high IQ. I can honestly tell you when someone has dementia it’s almost like you’ve lost them and then when they really do pass, it’s like losing them twice.
In a world where so many physicians these days are focused on medicine and not prevention, I'm thankful to find videos like yours that talk about prevention in the form of good nutrition & supplements.
@@mibz1117bullcrap. Doctors are focused on cures instead of prevention because 99% of their patients put zero effort into their own health. So a doctor can tell you to exercise and lose weight and you will similarly ignore them.
Caregiving for my mom,87, who has this. Extremely hard on both patient and caregiver . She won’t give up her sugars, but at 87, I just let her be. Ive replaced all the things I could with sugar free alternatives, but at this point , I just want to to be happy with the days she has left. Maybe I’m wrong, dunno.
You have the same resource of information but at the same time you have much more affordable non GMO food and cheap, regional options(buying berries, veggies, eggs etc from babushkas sitting next to traffic spots and selling their harvested stuff as one example). I don't demonize the u.s but the food options are awful with low budget.

My sister showed all these signs in her late fifties. If only I had know these were early signs of her Alzheimer’s. She is now 73, in a Dementia Village care center. My sister is gone, only hers physical body is there. It’s the saddest thing ever
So sorry you're going through that. My Mom was in a nursing home for 6 weeks while she recovered from a bad fall and surgical complications. There were a lot of dementia patients there and it was so sad to see people suffering with it. Some were so confused and didn't know where they were, and were very distraught because they didn't understand what was happening. I would not wish that on anyone. I hope Dr. Berg's message gets out to more people so they don't have to suffer that fate.
I have all those symptoms. It is quite embrassing to live like this. I have to ask same thing many times and i feel how answer disappears like puff. What would you do if you need some answer but you could not keep it? There is also that i am so irritaded for something i cant remember and after that i am just irritated because i do not remember what course it. I have try to hide it because no one likes to be stupid. My mom has alzheimer she dyes it few years.
Thank you so much for this Dr Berg. My dad had dementia, I believe at least partly because he was on cholesterol medication and told to reduce his dietary fats. Sometimes when he had lucid moments he would say to me, "This is the most terrible disease." Breaks my heart just to think of how he suffered.
My mother is with advanced dementia now, she often uses "words" that don't exist, as she is having trouble remembering the actual words. But I take care of her, she lives with me and she's around me all day and guess what - she does NOT forget who I am. My theory is that love and care are much stronger even than dementia. But many people, who have relatives with dementia try to get rid of them - stay away, put them into "care" homes, etc, you know... I think that is why the people with this condition forget about their relatives - because their relatives forgot about them first and are not around.
@@moetocafe Very sorry to hear about your situation. Dementia/Alzheimer's has taken just about everyone in my family. We don't even ask who has it anymore, we ask who doesn't have it in our family? I have a 96 year old Aunt who has so lost everyone due to Alzheimer's, that she's outlived all 6 of her kids and her husband to Alzheimer's.
@@moetocafe They don't get 'rid' of them. What an absurd comment! We had no choice, nor did my husband's family for his mum. In both instances none of us lived in the same town as our mothers. I lived on the other side of the planet to mine and my husband lives in a different country to his. We all work full time and have families too. We don't have the luxury of having someone home all day to care for them, apart from the distance factor. In the case of my own mother, my brother did make the decision to move mum from one end of the country to the other, to be near him. It turned out to be a bad decision, she went down hill really rapidly after that move. My husband's sisters also decided to move his mum to be close to one of them, from one island to another of their country. She also went down hill rapidly due to that move. Neither was their fault, it is just what happened. Please don't make such inconsiderate comments when you do not know people's circumstances, it's hurtful and rude.
@@moetocafe I will say that you are lucky in your situation … however I was one of the “ I’d never put my mother in a home” people … and I’m ashamed that I ever said that … for the hurt it causes people that can not take care of a parent at home. In addition to this advice, stimulate the soleus muscles as they are responsible for pumping blood back up to the heart and brain. Also in regard to exercise, swing your arms while walking to reinforce the neuromuscular connections.
I have family members who will not/cannot change their food and lifestyle, despite having a dementia diagnosis and this info. Many here can relate, I'm sure. Very sad.
I had the 4 signs while battling mental illness in my early 20's and I thought that was it for me..It was tough and frustrating.. I'm glad I recovered. My dad is diabetic and currently showing these signs and I'd love to help him before it gets worse. Thank you for the information.
@@raysubrata1337 Sometimes you can recover. I did and believe it was by prayers to our Lord. Try getting good vitamins. B 12, 6 and others, Omega 3, Calcium, Iron, Vit D,. To keep sugar stabilized, try using vegetables with peanut butter for in between meals. Give up all sugar, gradually of course. Bread, which raise glucose then lowers it lower than before.
When my brother and I became 24/7 caregivers for our mom (in January 2019) who had Dementia we made significant changes in her diet by really lowering carbs to a minimum, got rid of salt and sugar via milk (changed to unsweetened almond milk) and other changes. It took several months but we saw a drastic improvement in her cognitive state. She still had other symptoms related to dementia but her alertness was greatly improved and remained somewhat steady for almost three years up until the last few weeks of her life (July 2021). Diet makes a huge difference, we are convinced the diet made a huge difference.
Hard part in implementing this plan is convincing both my parents they have dementia. They see it in each other but not in themselves. They also firmly believe any fat in your diet leads to instant heart disease.
My mother lives on sugar. The closest to real food is toast slathered with honey. Then she complains about her memory. My siblings take turns giving her plates of sugary treats. If I try to give her normal food she says she is full and 'will eat it later'.
@@Chahlie My brother was the same way. I think very high sugar craving is one of the symptoms of the disease. I know several people with dementia and the only food they want to eat is cookies, cakes, ice cream and sodas. Great information Doctor! I would like to also suggest that people with early signs of Dementia have their medication list evaluated by their doctor. As you know, certain meds, or maybe too many meds can cause a person to exhibit dementia like symptoms. This is especially risky when people are treated by multiple doctors. Thanks again for sharing!
There was a study printed that said the people in nursing were taken of antidepressants and antiseizure drugs. They greatly improved and they did not have dementia after all.
My mom was in assisted living with Alzheimer’s. She got to the point where she would slump forward and the staff wouldn’t feed her. I would come in and retrieve her from the corner and take her into a private room to feed her. I started putting coconut oil in her food and one day she lifted her head upright again. The next time I visited all the nurses came in and started questioning me about what I was doing. After that I asked them to ask her dr if it could be part of her meal regimen. He said yes. I left it at the desk for the staff to administer but unfortunately it came up missing. I had them replace it.
I appreciate that you mention what is more affordable! I think that everyone in medical community lost a moment that they are treating patients with real life… they all going to tell you do this or eat this… while they do not know can you do it or can you afford it! I’m so proud that medicine went so far but I would appreciate that doctors or any other healers come back to real reason why they are here! For us! And us who most of the time just feel lucky if we can get buy! You are the first one who cares about all this and I thank you for that!!
I work in a Assisted Living Facility. I’V helped diagnosed dementia in our residents for almost twelve years. It breaks my heart to see this happening to people in my field everyday. agreeing with the others that you could suggest your facility make healthier food options and perhaps even an in-house "trial" of a better diet and IF for so many weeks and see if volunteer participants notice any difference.

My mother had early on-set Dementia Alzheimer’s, and I gotta say, the list of symptoms is misleading. Everything on the list could for example also signal perimenopause and so many other things.
As someone who has experienced family members with dementia the symptoms are correct with the caveat that it is persistent. It’s not simply forgetting here and there. It’s a more intense forgetfulness and confusion that repeatedly happens.

Oh wow, this is the first time, I've heard about it being a matter of fuel. Makes sense. I have ME/CFS and that illness is a deficiency in energy (fuel). And when I fell into disability after being bedridden for 6 months, I was disabled and very ill, but still able to drive. That is, until I got in the car and got lost a block from my home and realised I ought not be driving. I was unable to make simple computations. (Have not had either problem in a dozen years though I remain mostly couch bound.) I'd had mild ME/CFS since childhood and began to have word find problems in my early 30s and losing my train of thought when speaking. But becoming fully disabled was another story. I no longer read very much, when I used to love to read, because of the amount of energy it uses. I have to save that brain energy to make meals and have spatial memory. Not everyone's brain is as severely affected by ME/CFS and when people are feeling better, our brains come back online, which gives us hope that if a cure is ever found, we'll get all of our cognitive abilities back. (We're also not getting oxygen, but we can't exercise.) I do most of these except exercise. When I am able, I walk. This is reminding me to continue to take the MCT oil. I've slacked off recently. Thanks so much.
Actually my father's dementia worsened while he was fasting in the hospital. He and my mother lost a lot of weight while in hospital because they lost appetite. My father got abstinence dementia and mother got alopecia. That's risky. Fasting is not always the answer.

So she included quite large amounts of coconut oil in her husband's diet and within a short amount of time her husband showed a marked improvement, in fact began to regain the ability to do tasks he had stopped being able to do. She gives talks on the subject.
She reneged when he shortly after had a very rapid decline and died.
@@michelleschulman914 Well we're all going to die someday but I was wondering if coconut oil truly has mental health benefits.
Michelle is correct.
Unfortunstely the same doctor posted updates on her husband and there were bad news.

Sad reality is that no physician or doctor gives a crap about your health. It is up to you to do your own research and prevent . Dr Berg is a miracle
@@mibz1117bullcrap.
Doctors are focused on cures instead of prevention because 99% of their patients put zero effort into their own health.
So a doctor can tell you to exercise and lose weight and you will similarly ignore them.

So sorry to hear that

Thank you so much for this Dr Berg. My dad had dementia, I believe at least partly because he was on cholesterol medication and told to reduce his dietary fats. Sometimes when he had lucid moments he would say to me, "This is the most terrible disease." Breaks my heart just to think of how he suffered.
Wow Erica that sounds awful. Sorry you had to go through that.
Try give your dad MCT oil or coconut oil. My mom has dementia… coconut oil seems to help improve her condition. 🙏🏻
I'm so sorry. Cholesterol MEDS definitely harm the brain. The brain needs cholesterol.

I'm so sorry....how sad.
My father had this for 10 years bless him
Dementia is the one thing I never want to get . So scary forgetting your loved ones or even who you are 😱
My mother is with advanced dementia now, she often uses "words" that don't exist, as she is having trouble remembering the actual words.

Sometimes you can recover.
Do not do liver cleanses. The liver isn't dirty. Yikes!

And?????? She continued to what? Get better, worse or??
I'm also wondering...
what was written on the paper?
I appreciate that you mention what is more affordable! Thanks so much for providing us with so much up to date information that we can use to live the longest, healthiest, and most productive lives we can!
Covid brain has many of these same symptoms. And mine has gotten better adopting a ketogenic lifestyle, taking MCT oil and adding intermittent FASTING. This is a good video. Thank you.
Very scary that both of my grandparents, Grandma and Grandpa have almost all of these signs...
I've seen stories where people have reversed signs
I clearly remember during all of my 75 years a feeling of craziness each and every time I felt overly confused OR whenever I failed to recall whatever happened to be on the tip of my tongue. 'Cept now, cause I don't care no more.
Thanks Doc,I appreciate you.wish I would have had this for family 15 yrs.ago.
Dr Berg is a genius.
God bless you Dr Berg! You have answered many of my questions regarding some issues that I haven't been able to address. Thank you for your service.
Happy you found it useful! Be well!

OMG. I have had all those subtle signs for 50 years now. I'm 62.
Wow, Dr. Berg, you are really on the ball!!! You seem excited making these videos and I am excited to watch them! Thank you for all the great information! You are awesome!
A pleasure to have someone get directly to the important points. There are so many "experts", who take ages to get to the point - obviously from the old school of "why use 10 words when a hundred will do and I can seem (to myself) so clever".
My dad always watched what he ate, my mother ate anything she craved. Dad had Alzheimer’s, my mother did not , and she outlived him by several years. Keto is not for everyone, not the answer to everything !!!
@@carollynt why not?
Just paused and hopped over to amazon to order mct oil. Have already been taking cod liver oil, bile salts to be able to digest it. Been taking zinc for months and recently added b1. Its havibg a great effect on my post covid brain fog and autonomic nervous system dysfunction.
I had a neighbor smart as a wip always doing his projects sweetest man ever his daughters would drop his food at the door so mean to him. One was kinda nice they never visited him. One day one came had fireman say he had Alzheimer’s. I knew he didn’t. They asked him the date he said I haven’t looked at the calendar is so long I don’t need too. And asked what day is it he said it doesn’t mater to me every day is the same. They took him in a home. He was perfectly doing fine on his own. They got all his money I heard later he always asked for me cause he knew I knew he was fine. He was the kindest smartest 80 something year old. I wish I could do those days again and bring him back home.
Thankfully he had you as a kind neighbor, and possibly there were kind people at the home too...
Maybe you could visit him once a week. It would give him so much joy.
Sometimes you can't change the family situation, but you CAN bring JOY to people. Warm company is worth gold!
@@barbieskates540 I agree, my Mom was in a care home after a stroke and I always tried to smile, say hi or acknowledge the residents in the hallways On the way to my moms room you could just tell it brighten their day to have someone smile or speak to them.
working at home all day, I think I am going to have a Dr Berg all day kind of day toay... going to watch him for the next 8 hours ' cuz he is the BESTTTTTT :)) Luv u doc!
I've noticed that fasting helps my clarity, but keto put me in the ER. I have kidney disease, and my CKD went into stage 4 after about three weeks following a keto lifestyle. As an aside, I study Greek and Hebrew, but when I stop studying for any amount of time, the symptoms you listed return. I don't know if it's common, but consistent language study seems to stop these symptoms for me.
What was your daily percentage of fats, protein & non starchy carbs like?
Have you heard of Dr. Jason Fung? He is a kidney specialist in Toronto, who focuses on low carb and intermittent fasting. He offers personalized coaching through a company called The Fasting Method. Also, at UCLA there’s a neurologist called Dale Bredesen who does personalized plans that he claims reverse cognitive decline. He wrote a book (The End of Alzheimer's: The First Program to Prevent and Reverse Cognitive Decline) and several journal articles about it. I also find language study a great help, especially when combined with singing. Best wishes!
@@roxyiconoclast - Hi, thanks for your concern and the info. I'm with you on the singing! I love to sing, and I'm even good at it!
@@FriendOfChrist you’re so welcome. Wish I were good at singing, but I am tone deaf! Still enjoy singing along with music videos anyway, just have to do it in private.
I am 74. Both my mother and grandmother died of dementia. I stay hydrated, practice walking, I still work 40 hours a week and during lunch break I play jigsaw and mahjong and other puzzle games to keep my synapses going. I also include fats and oils in my diet always.
I've experienced all this most of my life (I'm 59) due to disassociating and having CPTSD.
My mom started showing signs of dementia after surgery a couple years ago. She also takes Vicodin which amplifies her symptoms
@Maria Lindell I try every day, but it is so hard to convince them. Their brains are already compromised and their motivation is not there. It is so hard to convince my husband to make some changes... The only thing I do is cook with MCT oil and try to put it in anything I can and also the apple vinegar and replace sugar for stevia... but he likes to eat bananas lol! So there goes the keto diet... I hate his tantrum! Can't deal with it..
(Have not had either problem in a dozen years though I remain mostly couch bound.)
I'd had mild ME/CFS since childhood and began to have word find problems in my early 30s and losing my train of thought when speaking. (We're also not getting oxygen, but we can't exercise.)
I do most of these except exercise. When I am able, I walk. This is reminding me to continue to take the MCT oil. I've slacked off recently.
Thanks so much.
Thank you Doctor Eric Berg for always being so helpful with your advices and tips
Happy to be of help!
Dr. Berg is a God send. It's who I direct everyone to for health issues.
Actually my father's dementia worsened while he was fasting in the hospital. He and my mother lost a lot of weight while in hospital because they lost appetite. My father got abstinence dementia and mother got alopecia. That's risky. Fasting is not always the answer.
I agree - fasting lowers blood sugar and causes confusion and reduced brain function. Even yogis who fast regularly get dementia
Did it get better once they resumed eating??
This old rancher noticed it hurt him to say beef. But my hats off to you for including it as healthy. My 94 year old mother in-law who keeps beating me at cribe would agree also.
My Grandpa had Alzheimer's.
He suffered for 10 years from it. Slow but steady death. :(
Every single day he would have a dessert after breakfast and dinner, but he was 6' 4" and always had a slim, athletic build. All that sugar was a huge factor, we know believe.
Same with Ronald Regan. He had lots of sugar and was known to keep a candy jar on his desk.
Good - exercise, sleep, fasting, fish
Bad - sweets, bread, pasta, alcohol
