Yay you did it Nate 😂😀👍😁🛩️❄️☃️. Awesome job . They worked great. I love the snow ❄️ flights 😍. Hope you all had a wonderful day. Thank you so very much Nate and Abby, Popeye 🐕👋😀. God bless you and your family always 🙏.
Hey Nate.. it's the rear motor design. When ON it PUSHES the front down , When OFF it PULLS the front up... So that's what's up in the air and deeper snow 😉 also the trailing edge of the skis 👍 good you put the lip ,, might be a little steep. And most of all THANK YOU!!! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR A GOOD SNOW VID (plane) YAAAAAY! 👍🎉
Very cool! Powder skis are relatively new, but their much wider than traditional groomer skis. The extra weight of the ski won't compare to the area you're adding. Pressure=force x area, and the key is to minimize pressure to float on powder. Of course, you I've never flown from powder either, so there's the extra challenge of making it balanced, as you and others have noted. I might also design the tips taller so it can handle bigger bumps in the snow. Very cool though!!
You are so awesome, thank you!! We still have some left! I’ll even throw in an RC Saylor sticker to anyone who places an order today and tomorrow! 👍💯😎🤩⚓️
Just my 2 cents! So with powder snow I think a bit wider ski will benefit you more than length. I made some and I think they work amazingly well. Love the content.💪🏼
Touch and go? Wouldn't it be slide and go! 😂 Do you think that kinda like hollowed out pontoons would work on fluffy snow, just a thought. I agree with some comments.. add a ridge down the middle of the front ski would/should help with the steering - like ridges on bottom of boats. Didn't you plan on that landing!? So you didn't have to bend over and just grab the tail? (What I would have said... I planned it that way 😅)
I once hand crafted a pair of skis for my plane out of wood! Never got to the part of flying in the winter, though! Yours work very well! I agree with the front ski being a longer & maybe a bit wider as well to avoid dig-ins
Nate you need to land on water with that! Print out some triple edge at 20 degree edge and and 5 millimeter center edge for center skim for snow etc. You can thank me later!
Make the skis wider. The front one will have a lot of trouble if it’s longer. Also if you make it just longer in the front the ski will dive and won’t be level when you go to land. But you know about making things balanced, you fly planes! lol😂
Hey RcSaylors I wonder if you have enough room in the battery compartment if you put one of those disposable hand warmers on the lipo battery would that extend your flight time ????
If you are looking to try to make skis to work in more granual snow...try making them wider, and the nose ski wider and longer. More surface = more weight it can suspend on the snow. An engineer could probably tell you exactly how big to make them, but some trial and error could yield something without wasting a lot of filament.
Walk of shame would be interesting if you dorked it on the thin ice. Remember, for fluffy snow use the floats. Hopefully you verified whether you have resell rights on the print files? Some folks restrict what you can do with them.
I have a suggestion for the skis. For the nose ski put a small hole in the middle front and middle rear of the ski. Then take a wire close hanger and bend it into a U shape to match the holes. Not sure how to securely fasten it. but that will give you more steering authority in the snow. (instead of the bottom of the ski being flat)
Nate, love the videos. Also, I have the Aero Scout and like the idea of buying 3d stuff you might make. Almost want to buy the ski's but I live in Santa Cruz, CA (no snow...just sand). How about adapting for pontoons (a little bigger than ski's) so I can land on water?
Agreed! Not hard, just stomp down the runway a bit but I really wanted to see these work in a spot that hadn’t been packed yet so to the frozen lake we go!! 🥶🤩💯👍⚓️
That’s awesome guys. I definitely want some for my AeroScout 😁 Can you make some pontoons for water? We don’t get much snow here in NC. I love the skies but we don’t get much snow here in NC, sadly..
