They went with that cover, because it was drawn by the film's director, David Litchfield, for a brochure to give to prospective airing TV stations. That's the poster you get with the LP and CD sets. Yes, I think they were going for a bootleg motif for this. My bootleg is spectacular, with full color pics. 😊
Hi Matt! Great music in a cheap packaging. This album fills a gap between "Band on the run" (73) and "Venus and Mars" (75). Until now, the only (kind of) Wings album for 1974 was "McGear". Now we have the real thing.
@@canarsie56 Yeah! Great album! I discovered it in the 80's and always thought it was the next best thing to a real Wings album. Paul & Linda can be heard on almost every song and Jimmy & Denny did a great job on guitars. Mike's vocals are very good . Really love it and I listened to it very often. 😉
The CD has a gatefold so I bought that. No need for the incomplete Backyard cuts since they’re all available if you want to look for them. The Backyard songs were filmed so they could have released the video since they were so against releasing the complete film.
I got my copy yesterday. I like/love most of the tracks. It almost sounds like an early rehearsal for the forthcoming Wings Over America/Europe tours of 1975-76.
the packaging is beautiful and tasteful made. Especially the sleeves. If you love design thats pure early 70s style! You probably wouldn't like the White Album aswell if it would come out today.
Matthew thank you for sharing the music. It seems like the Beatles have been around forever because of their solo careers. Such a gift of music that they have given to the world. I'll get the CD at some point. I don't have this CD. God bless you and all you love.
Hi Matt, My copy is still sitting in the FedEx warehouse in the black hole called Grove City, Ohio. Will probably be put on my doorstep to melt when im in Providence for my dauhters college orientation. $10.46 for shipping, and God only knows when I'll receive it.
Hi Matthew .....don't disagree. Somewhat underwhelming ! Love the music ...don't care for the packaging. Only the music matters.......could of been better. Wonder whats due next to be thrust upon us ! McCartneys never predictable...he will have something up his sleeve.
I saw someone else's unboxing of this a few days ago, and I agree with you that the packaging/presentation is boring. They could have made a collage of frames from the TV special, plus include any regular still photos of Paul and the band for the front cover, and then maybe a picture of Paul + Linda at the mixing board on the back (or something like that, related to the music). Even a photo of Paul plugging in his guitar or adjusting a knob on an amp. Plus, song lyrics and detailed credits would be good (or did they put credits on the poster?) would have been good. If I buy this, I'll get the CD. On the positive side, it is nice to see that this album (the CD, anyway) is the #1 top seller on Amazon right now. It is good to see new releases from Ringo, then this, and the remixed "Mind Games" sets.
You really said it all about the packaging and the artwork there Matt. And why no gatefold? But then again this is being done by other record labels with other artists, cramming two discs into a single sleeve. I guess that this is a money saving exercise. As for the artwork, what's with the baby? it just looks creepy. What would've been a nice touch would've been to use some shots taken by Linda at the sessions at Abbey Rd, or go for the Bootleg album look as The Who did with Live at Leeds back in the day. But this aside I am loving this album and the EP. Less than a month now until we get the Mind Games Ultimate Box... Again thank you Matt for another great Vid.....
But the overall packaging of the albums is very different. Honestly, if the White Album had a naked half baby/winged creature pencil drawing on it most people (if not all) would still be criticizing it to this day.
Hi Matt, I'm waiting for the Gatefold, different cover, and colored vinyl version! Until then I will not purchase this one! The CD is good enough for me! And I didn't even order that yet! Lol..😅
Wow. This is sad! This is one of the huge reasons I’ve already stopped purchasing new vinyl (Late Millenial here). I’ll stick to finding oldies at half the price.
The packaging is a little boring. But at closer look there’s more going on there. The coffee stains on the whole left side. Even the appearance of ring ware. The texture of the paper is great too. I do think they were going for that bootleg feeling with it. I still think they could have done more though.
You didn't hear me clapping ...because I only used one hand. Did Paul draw that baby? Baby with only half a Wing...because the group Wings were only hangin on by One Wing? Have fun...
I agree that the packaging is dull and need to rant on, because a great many albums being released this year also have horrible packaging. From super sterile AI graphics to the most boring fonts for album and song titles to quickly rushed pencil sketches, it’s as if most record labels today are too cheap to pay a talented artist for quality work. Maybe they’re rushing releases out too quickly to bother with the graphics, but this is highly unlikely since it seems to take forever for any artist’s new work to come out.
Babys not even wearing a diaper what kind of parents...nice one Mat! Given the price of LPs at Least a gatefold-Better poster cover design. Guess collectors have to wait for expanded special editions. I will only buy the cd version used in a music store. Shame the DVD was not released that would have made it worthwhile.
Hi Matt, didn’t really think about the packaging, I thought Paul was going for the bootleg look anyway it’s the music that counts. Anyway take care and great video 😊
The plain white sleeve with the cupid baby on it reminds me somewhat of "The White Album" design: just plain white design with bare minimums of photos and song listings. The record labels are plain white simply because they resemble acetate and test pressing labels, which weren't too imaginative with their designs either, but people can pay insane prices for them if they are by The Beatles, Elvis, The Rolling Stones, Dylan, etc.
I am happy with the music. It looks like it is supposed to be like a bootleg, hence the sparse packaging. Remember the double record for Red Rose Speedway?
I like the cover! 😂 as for the rest of it I wished they would have had more band photos. I wish Paul would take more of a hands on approach with this stuff. I am glad its out and also pleased with the fact it didn't end up being bonus material. I would like to see more releases like this from the Beatles and their solo camps as it did not cost an arm, leg, or even a wing. Ha Ha!
Looks like they were going for a spartan approach here! I heard it on my nephew's Appleplay in his car and liked what I heard. I agree that the packaging is quite meh.
it would have been nice to have had it in a gatefold sleeve with some really nice photos inside. There could also have been a nice poster of the whole band. Perhaps with the DVD / BluRay release.
Not a big fan of the artwork but the music is what counts…as a huge Wings fan, this could have been in a plain brown paper bag, I would be happy. The packaging seems to mimic the “Unplugged album” with minimalist packaging and artwork.
@@daveidmarx8296 Great! In looking at it again, there seems to be some significance to the structure and texture of the cover art. There's the one wing and one hand somehow clapping.
