    I like, like one of your other commenters, was dreading ripping out several seams and came on to see if there was another way besides using the sharp part of the ripper AND praise God, you were there! Thank you so much. This is the best useful video I've ever seen! I decided to share it to public on facebook and I generally only share with friends. Thank you again and may God bless you and yours for helping so many of us. I, too, have used the ripper for many years; I just had my 77th birthday. And to thank most of us had no idea or even wondered why that little red ball was on the ripper. I never really thought about it but if I did, just figured it was looking pretty. You're an angel! :)

    I have been using these darm things for 50 years, and I never realized that the red ball was supposed to be inside! If it's not, and you hold it upside down, it's very easy to rip your fabric, even sturdy fabric, so then you find yourself picking 1 or 2 stitches at a time. Ugh. So thanks very much--if you're not careful, you might learn something every day!!!

      monelle ... Me too! All these years thinking why do they make these stupid things so #*$@# dull?! Well now we know! We've be cutting our steak with the wrong side of the knife!😂😂😂

    This made my day!!! I was dreading ripping a very large seam and decided to look up a video to see if there was a better way. THANK YOU for saving me so much time! 😁

    23 year old from Sweden here, I'm making a skirt and for once using a non-stretchy material and I thought "there must be a way to rip this seam faster" so I looked it up and yup here it is! 👍 Thank you for the video! 😊

    This is vindication a bit for me lol! I used to do that to seam rip in my sewing class in high school and my teacher told me i'd tear my fabric doing it and that is the wrong way to do it. So thanks for sharing!

      iiswansongii yeah the single stitch method is madness

      The trick is to keep the sharp part of the ripper toward the seam and the little ball against the main section of the piece. Hope that makes sense.

    That red ball has been one of the best kept secrets of all time. I knew what it was for, but never saw such a good demo of how to do it. Keep Quilting!

      The Bunco Club would you consider refilming it at that horizontal angle? I have a couple of sewing sites that I belong to and I would love to post this video on there for you

    That rubber handle section is great to rub along the snipped thread to collect it so you don't have to hand pick each tiny piece.

    That only works with stiff fabric ,NEVER use on silk or softer fabrics. My silk blouse is ruined but not the fault of this video.

    This is the way I was taught to use a seam ripper - the little ball keeps you from tearing the fabric :-D

  • @swettyspaghtti
    @swettyspaghtti 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lol i have never used a seam ripper...i searched to see how to do it. I guess i will do it right for 40 years now 😃

  • @timmothycopeland4866
    @timmothycopeland4866 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    the red ball was just logical after the first time I stabbed the fabric with the point. But using the ball will no necessarily prevent you from ripping your fabric still.

    • @thebuncoclub7986
      @thebuncoclub7986  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is true, Timmothy. But if you keep the point inside the seam and the ball on the other side, the damage to the seam should be minor. Try a few practice pieces from scraps to get the feel of the tension on the fabric, how fast you can go, and you should be able to tell when that pointy thing strays from the path and pricks the seam. Hope this helps...happy sewing! PS: Going over cross-seams that are in the path can be rather tricky. You'll have to slow down and sometimes even "pick" across the seam before continuing your faster rip.

    Sometimes when I do that, I end up cutting the fabric. Any tips on how to avoid that??

    • @thebuncoclub7986
      @thebuncoclub7986  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes...make sure to keep the pointy part in the seam and the ball on the bigger side. That way if you accidentally cut something, it should only be on the seam side of the fabric and not the good side. Hope this helps.

    • @lilcicero77
      @lilcicero77 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cynthia Fiekers don't fight the seam. So if it's moving smoothly then starts resisting don't fight it. That's when it rips. Just wiggle it gently until it flows again. Or start from the other end.

    • @thebuncoclub7986
      @thebuncoclub7986  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The trick is to keep the sharp part of the ripper toward the seam and the little ball against the main section of the piece. Hope that makes sense. Sorry for taking so long to reply.

    • @brysonteufel7417
      @brysonteufel7417 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have someone hold the other end so it is a little taut, you are much less likely to catch a bit of the fabric. Do not use a ripper that is old and dull. I taught sewing for 35 years to middle schoolers. I also taught them to take out a few stitches so you can catch hold, then go down about 2 inches and cut the stitch. Then you can pull out the loose end. Turn to the other side and repeat. (by Iva Lea Bryant, NOT Bryson Teufel ;-))
