I also wish they'd stop tiptoeing around major plot developments and just go all-in with it- it's sort of ridiculous. I think in the Borderlands universe, they're the best examples of the most raw human reactions to being surrounded by an insane amount of chaos nonstop. At least for me anyway.
I see where you are coming from, but you are giving her relatability too much reach to make her likeable. She’s negative, arrogant, and rude towards other people’s interests out of an excuse being “an Autistic person who had her hands broken”. I get that she has a hard time picking up social queues, but all that means is she’s prone to speak her opinion more often than others….. and her opinions SUCK.
I don't remember much of BL1, but I remember Tannis' echos vividly. They're seriously horrifying. She sounds just a typical scientist at first, then it dawns how the planet makes people into psychos. It's amazing that she didn't completely crack.
I imagine that in Borderlands 4 she may try to unite the other Sirens, either to learn more about Sirens/Vaults/Eridians or to feel safer in numbers since so many want to abuse their Phase powers. She’ll likely have her hands full trying to reign in Amara’s lust for stardom and dealing with Ava who is, well, Ava...
Wouldn't be surprised if someone else inherited Tyreen's leeching powers, and basically did their own thing, allowing us to play as some vampiric ass-kicker, and probably bringing in some interesting dynamic to it all.

Honestly I'm shocked she even has aspie this type of info just came out of nowhere and I even have it too and again it shocked me to know that she has it aswell
Its so funny; Tannis says so much about avoiding human contact and even throws up from disgust due to someone calling her pretty, yet went on about wanting friends and even offers to have set with the vault hunter when you first meet her in borderlands 2
Maybe it's the kind of human contact she prefers. Professor Nakayama might be her taste. Possibly because every person she has encountered was not even literate. Could be her aversion. She may be a sapiosexual . Attraction to intelligence. Though Nakayama fell down stairs and killed himself. Usually high IQ has side effects in other areas. Particularly emotions, understanding people, not having certain life skills, cooking etc. Her Social Skills are lacking because her Scientific skills are predominant.
@vincentparadis3438 That trait is usually unwarranted. I suppose this comes from her success. Which feeds the ego. And that ego can go sky high if its not tampered. Since not too many people are around her to do that it just goes up. To her that's just the side effects of success. She is alone for a reason. I am amazed she is alive at all. We never see her so any actual traveling I don't think.
In my school vr game, Tannis, along with Tina, were both involved in Project Apex (infusing Goalius and Nogara with very high amounts of iridium to go after the counter titan a massive mechanical vault monster who power rivals the Destroyer and in it introduction it killed the Traveller) it kinda worked with it being able to escape through assimilating the corpes of the traveller and teleported away
I feel like she cared about everybody in her own way and when everyone started dying she started going into denial and then when everyone was finally gone she just continued to work to be like I must not let this go for all for nothing
Being an aspie (person with Aspergers) myself, it’s nice to see a character in one of my favourite game series also be autistic. (Also, shes never met a child? Weird. Well, this is the Borderlands franchise after all.
I just looked up aspergers and I actually think I may have it, it wouldn’t explain a lot about my life. I enjoyed this video very much but I think I may have to speak to someone after this.
I'm Autistic, just like Tannis. She's one of my favourite Borderlands characters (other than Lilith and Maya.) When I first found out about it, I was like... "No way, finally! A video game character who's just like me!" Man, I wish Tannis was real, I think in some way, she and I would've been great friends. 😁😁😁
I have Asperger's syndrome and I can also relate to Tannis. I doubt that we would have been great friends as I have found that trying to interact with other people, even people who also has Asperger, will be difficult. It would be nice to think that I could make a friend.
Id be able to understand her as much as I can understand most of the entire cast (always say trade in when wanting a different gun from Marcus). It's just visual/verbal ques and body language that I can't fully understand until straight up told to me. Joking example being Moxxy trying to seduce me, id only know that she wanted me if she just straight up told me and not danced around it fully naked.
I didn't know that Tannis was on the spectrum (I'd always focused on Gaige so I completely missed her), but after hearing you describe her, I can definitely see how she works. For starters, we're commonly claimed to not have emotions or empathy, which is extremely wrong, but understandable since what we lack is emotional _expression_ making us appear emotionless. Similarly, we can feel empathy, but from what I can tell, it needs to be learned. A side effect of learned empathy is 1) it can be difficult to turn off under normal circumstances, and 2) restricting it to other humans has to be learned completely separately. The latter basically means that it gets over-generalized to apply to anything from non-human animals to, as Tannis shows, inanimate objects. Another aspect is that the autism spectrum doesn't inherently make one antisocial or asocial. We still crave social interaction just like any other human. The problem is that we effectively have a separate language, so communicating with neurotypicals means that we have to put in effort, a _lot_ of effort, to translate between the two languages. Put two people on the spectrum together, and no translation is needed and they can both start acting far more social than they ever had before. Her intro in BL2 implies a potential sensory part, but what I'd rather end this off with is her becoming a siren. This, likely unintentionally, plays into an interesting piece of autistic history, portrayals, and culture. Despite usually focusing on logic as Tannis mentioned, magic is a surprisingly common interest. Part of this can be attributed to the powers themselves acting as a metaphor, part can be due to some abilities potentially appearing magical to some, and another part can be traced back to the stories of changelings. Descriptions of changelings often show similar traits as various physical and mental disabilities, including autism. In a sense, Tannis receiving the powers could be seen as similar to becoming a changeling. How curious she is...
Siren powers being physiological manifestations of someone's personality traits makes sense. When the siren doesn't choose a host, the powers choose the person they match and the most. Lilith, with her phasewalk, always tried to run from her problems, and had to be forced into a position where she couldn't run any more. Maya grew up controlled, and in the iron grip of a group of tyrants. Likewise, in BL3, she is particularly controlling of Ava, although in this case trying to leep her safe as opposed to weaponise her. Tyreen is a parasite, using her circumstances as an excuse to justify her horrible actions and her literally consuming the lives of anyone useful to her. Amara is confrontational, often acting without thinking, and is very blunt with her words and actions, hence why her siren power is the one thay is configured entirely for combat. Tannis is like Angel, wherein the two of them feel more of a connection with machines and objects with people. They're logical in their actions, but that does not mean they lack emotion. It makes sense why they have their phase shift.
After watching three "History of" videos, it has suddenly dawned on me how as the series went on, Gearbox wrote themselves into a lot of corners. And instead of addressing or fixing those plot holes, they just barged right through them and pretended like they didn't exist. Do Sirens choose their next host or don't they? Are they born with their powers or not? If Jack was manipulating the vault hunters before they even got off the bus in the first game, how is the Pre-Sequel the story of Jack becoming the evil Handsome Jack if he was already evil? It really makes you wonder why we care about the story of Borderlands when the writers don't.
Jack was using the vault hunters to get Atlas off of Pandora, he wasn't doing it because he was evil at the time. He just wanted to get Hyperion to turn their attention towards finding the Vaults. Which makes sense given there are Four Vaults on Pandora if you count the planet vault from BL3. There's the Destroyer's Feeding Cage, The Vault of the Warrior, The Vault of the Traveler, and the planet vault. Jack wanted to get Hyperion to go to Pandora and then take it over to open the Vault on Elpis and thats what led him to becoming evil.
Also sirens are capable of choosing their hosts, but if they don’t then I assume it’s random. And in almost all circumstances (with the sole exception being the calypso twins as far as we know) you are not born with siren powers.
@@zacyquack Probably be interesting to see someone eventually get Tyreen's leeching powers in the series, and possibly play as a vampiric ass-kicker of sorts. Probably would be an interesting dynamic, after what happened with the Calypsos.
@jacktheripper7735 well technically the vault of the traveler appears everywhere in the universe its just pandora where atlas decided to try to keep it locked in one location long enough to defeat the traveler and loot the vault via the gortys project and yes I know late

Wait so if Tannis stayed up for three days straight on Pandora which has days that are 90 hours long then she was superhuman long before inheriting her siren powers
I always wondered why sirens are always girls but then I remember a key component of human DNA, the chromosomes. The Y chromosome, which is what makes men, is just so much smaller than the X chromosomes which make women. This is likely due to women being the ones that generate life and give birth so they need the extra information in their DNA to do just that. Its likely that the powers that are passed on require space, maybe even taking over the space of the information needed to generate life, thus making them infertile, but in return giving them tremendous power. Its odd to me this video made me think about it this logically but I figured I'd share my thoughts to all of the other fans here.

Eruption, I've got something you can use. In Crawmerax dlc, we see Zer0 saved from Sparky Flynt's assassin, by a being named One. In the alternative body style for Zane, he adopts the mantle of assassin One. Because he may have no knowledge that one may already exist, there is no reason Zane couldn't have gone back in time to save Zer0. What is the deal with this?
Zane's Assassin One suit isn't cannon, it's an alternate universe version of Zane. The One that save's Zer0 is is just somebody from his past, the joke being that his name is Zer0, so probably knows people with other number-based names (probably a reference to James Bond and and that world's in universe numbering of agents; "007", "006" ect)
@@griskin_8202 he may actually be canon unless they are confirmed. It confirmed that there is a multiverse. It could happen with interdimensional travel. Nobody has confirmed information with the Watcher that there is or isn't a multiverse. So all we can do is assume and put the dots together. As they did go to the same assassin bar.
You did a great job with this video... Just as you have with the other ones that I have watched this far! Thanks for putting all of the time and effort into creating these 🙏
my fav interaction with tannis is before leaving sanctuary to fight the warrior. she didn't say a word, just handed me a 150% HP on second wind, I loved it.
Since the BL1 vault is keeping more of a borderlands god and less a normal vault monster kept in check, it was meant to be a “food slot” where every 200 years, whenever some hapless adventurer witnessed the vault opening they’d be eaten by the Destroyer. This was the system they used to keep the monster contained as explained by Nyriads (an ancient sirens) recordings
@@anantrawat2311 not really true. The destroyer in its true form can never die and it’s been stated to be a casual Star Buster threat. In its sealed form however it’s considerably weaker hence why it can be defeated, but not killed. Remember the Destroyer is only sealed at all because Nyriad had to sacrifice all the eridians to make herself strong enough to seal it and even she knew she could never truly kill it.
Wait.....DAHL were about to leave the planet due to more failure than success. Also, inform Tannis that they were about to leave and she should join. Where they neglecting her until then? She was literally working solo that entire time and they somehow expected success?
I have a Theroy that BL3 takes place after the events in the game- during the intro Marcus says Vault Hunters that remind him of you. Meaning we are the (Next gen) of Vault hunters and we are only reliving the story of BL3 Vault hunters. This really clicked with me when we travel to kreigs mind in the middle of space... as if we are living in a dream universe. Also a lot of characters from other Borderlands games have changed there personality like the story teller IE (Marcus) has a bias towards them.
I agree because at the end of the Pre sequel the alien (I forgot is name) said that a war is "COMING" meaning its not here yet and I don't think calypso twins arc is the war and we're going to need all the vault hunters we can get, I think he came to either just deliver the message or maybe he left hence why hes not in the game maybe BL3 this is way for us to get use to the Vault hunters in Bl4 cause like you said BL3 is their story but BL4 is the real game. If im right (Which I think I am) that means BL3 is kind of like The Pre Sequel 2 in a way.
The way I interpreted it was that Tannis was inspired by Typhon but either grew jaded at one point at not finding any evidence for it or always saw it as an inspirational fairy tale. Her mother could very well have been a scientist but hated her job. I know I have been a cashier with no interest in retail.
Tannis becoming a siren might be the reason she never interacted with a child since she was shielded by her parents. Since as seen with Ava some are destined to be a siren from a young age. So it’s not to far that her parents saw this as well and shielded her.
Tannis is the Trunchbull from Matilda, reimagined 😂. She too also said she hates children and "am glad I never was one" easily my most favorite movie villain ever
R.I.P red coat. Siren powers can only work when your arms aren’t covered. Seriously how can getting glowing magic tattoos make a character’s design more boring?
Tannis is my favourite female character in Borderlands and maybe all of video games. She's weird and out there, but also cares for people and wants to do good.
What if the reason Angel gave Tannis the siren abilities because Angel was acting as her Echo Log when she was "going insane" it would make more sense than her randomly getting them or anything
I just want to add, Tannis' psychosis makes her a very unreliable narrator, so some of her later dialogue could be a side effect of that. that could help make sense of some of her conflicting story!
When you live that long on an unforgiving hostile planet, of course your brain's gone haywire with details. Bet she doesn't remember her real family as Tannis has been on Pandora for what, like, 12 years? And while her last ECHO recording said Day 718, Pandora has a 90-hour cycle so it must have been about 6 Earth years before the first game.

Bruh same
Love the videos my guy, keep up the good work and awaiting your new videos!
0:46 No wonder I've been able to relate to her so much
Same
Great video and I like her character.
Absolutely love Tannass. This video was spot on as always and I'd love to see a video on Vaughn
Jamie Lee Curtis as Tannis is literally the most unforgivable thing any game adaptation has ever done. I'm fuming
You did a great job with this video... Just as you have with the other ones that I have watched this far! Thanks for putting all of the time and effort into creating these 🙏
Bruh you work so hard on these videos I feel so bad that this only has 100 views
I love how you can slowly hear the sped up way of talking she normally has
my fav interaction with tannis is before leaving sanctuary to fight the warrior. she didn't say a word, just handed me a 150% HP on second wind, I loved it.
Ah yes, torture chairs, the one quest of BL2 (along with Tiny Tina's backstory quest) that got stuck in my brain. Tannis got real there for a second.
Someone explain me please. Why Eridians made possible to open Vault (Borderlands 1) every 200 years? What purpose? To check if Destroyer doing fine?
Since the BL1 vault is keeping more of a borderlands god and less a normal vault monster kept in check, it was meant to be a “food slot” where every 200 years, whenever some hapless adventurer witnessed the vault opening they’d be eaten by the Destroyer. This was the system they used to keep the monster contained as explained by Nyriads (an ancient sirens) recordings
Funny how eridians were centuries ahead in technology and couldn't kill the destroyer...but a regular dude with 4 guns can
@@anantrawat2311 not really true.
I saw the description, I appreciate your dedication
No wonder Tannis is a phatt mood for me, being I have similar mental stability patterns
This was awesome, thanks for this video.
I like how the first two games she looked pretty normal and then the third game came out and made her look like WaLuigi’s Daughter
Honestly, I never like the idea of her becoming a siren.
Same, the lore says in the whole universe there can be like 6 or 7 sirens at once, in the universe !!! And in bl3 there's sirens all around
So? What's wrong with gearbox finally using sirens 💀
I always remember the first time we hear her talk on a echo log, how she survived a skag attack by hiding under a body
6:11 "can we go now?"
Tannis becoming a siren might be the reason she never interacted with a child since she was shielded by her parents. Since as seen with Ava some are destined to be a siren from a young age. So it’s not to far that her parents saw this as well and shielded her.
My 3 favorite characters are definitely Mister Torgue, Tiny Tina, and Patricia Tannis
In Borderlands 2, she also invites the Vault Hunter to her bed, a "standing offer".
Gaige is a high school student lol
13:08 - "This is where the sandwiches live!!! Get you one!!"
Just watching the intro screen for Tannis in BL1, I just noticed the background is a floating mosaic of a screw and a ball 😆😆
“IVE GOT ONE QUESTION AND ONE QUESTION ONLY. EXPLOSIONS!!!!????”
Idk why but this is just one of those odd feelings you get.
Tannis is gonna be a playable character in BL4
Tannis is the Trunchbull from Matilda, reimagined 😂. She too also said she hates children and "am glad I never was one" easily my most favorite movie villain ever
This is a very good content. I never knew how her psych work before ans im glad i watched your video. Very entertaining.
Out of curiosity, would a history on Marcus be in the future?
I feel like she's in queue for a borderlands 4 vault hunter. Especially now that she is a siren.
Definitely a long one, but definitely a good one.
R.I.P red coat. Siren powers can only work when your arms aren’t covered. Seriously how can getting glowing magic tattoos make a character’s design more boring?
My favorite character hands down
Forget the Sirens, Tannis is my Borderlands waifu :-D
tannis is a siren sooooo
Tannis tanking torture like a mad lad... until they touched her chairs
Love the vids keep up the good work🌹
yo wtf, i was literally thinking about this video since i just finished 2 side quest's from tannis on BL2 where you retrieve her journals.
Her becoming the next playable siren in bl4 would be nice.
This reminds me of how "Eridian" was first pronounced, and I missed it.
"Er-i-dan" rolls off the tongue a bit smoother than "Ear-id-ian."
I'd find every vault for that bed offer.
When she was doing that stuff to the graveward I was like wow your so not a siren then when I kill the agonizer boom siren
It’d be cool if we can play as Tannis is Borderlands 4.
Tannis was my first game crush….
And while her last ECHO recording said Day 718, Pandora has a 90-hour cycle so it must have been about 6 Earth years before the first game.
god i like Tannis so much, she cracks me up the most xD
my atypical icon ❤
It's Aspergers, not Assburgers. Although, that condition sounds both strange and hilarious.
When I first heard about philip and his brother I thkught they were real people and philip was the one guy in sanctuary who had a crush on her
Doing the math in earth years she would be over 180 years old so im guessing time moves way slower in this universe
I relate to tannis a lot, i have the same autism diagnosis as her and i also can’t pickup social cues
Wow I never realize she had Asperger's I also have that too which is very cool to me
Claptrap story pls
History of Claptrap
Ok ok this was a good one...now do a
HISTORY OF SHADE!
Either the history of Claptrap or Timothy Lawrence would be nice
