Probably a lot later because there's so much to do all over the wiki and I'm also covering the other releases so the map project is going to be delayed for a while
As a player with no DnD experience, thanks so much for making all these guides, helps a lot understanding game mechanics😃
As a player with a ton of DnD experience also thank you for making these guides. BG3 offers a lot of different options and with the ability to respec I feel like I can actually purfect some of these builds I've been playing for years in ways I never would have been able to, and your insightful videos are my guide posts along the way.
I also have no DnD exp and these vids are so appreciated. I still end up going through each spell and action every turn to read them individually, but overall class tips have helped point me in the right direction. Still ended up taking like a hour in MC creation lol
As a player with no DnD experience, I didn't understand 85% of what he was talking about. He tells everything pretty fast and gives me the feeling like he expects us to have read the DnD guidebook before watching his "Guides".
Also a totally fair reaction. The vids kinda introduce the mechanics but I definitely need to spend signficant ingame hours to actually learn them. And ya, he does talk rather quickly, ive slowed his videos down somtimes to .75. i dont really watch him anymore after learning about what the group actually is though @@Devonaxx
This is the way
It’s important to note that the Careful Spell Metamagic does NOT completely prevent the damage to friendly units like the Evocation subclass of Wizards. It just gives an automatic saving throw to the damage/affect. So Fireball will still damage allies, but they’ll only take half damage.
I had to explain this to a friend.
But it's great for a "get off me" for your surrounded rogue/monk, since they get abilities that nullify all damage from spells they pass the saving throw on.
However, it's more powerful in one respect- it works for any spell type including conjuration, whereas Evocation's FULL protection only works on evocation spells (as an example, you will still absolutely hurt Shadowheart with your ice knife or flame orb, because those are conjuration spells not evocation- Fireball though, Evo wizard benefits far more since it's a full protection AND costs no additional resources).
@dragonlord21392 thing it's more for damage spells with "rider effects" like thunderwave. You throw everyone off the cliff besides the teammates
Yes I know. I’m only providing some clarification so other, like my friend, don’t get confused/mislead.
Couldn't you just take 2 levels of wizard miss out on like nothing and get that feature and never have to take careful spell
One thing that wasn't mentioned is that if you pick draconic bloodline sorcerer with dragonborn as your race you can mix and match dragon ancestries to get some really cool skin color combinations for your character.
I don't know about bg3, but in D&D draconic bloodline sorcerer gets draconic wings which is the dream of every dragonborn player
@@kamilrichert8446level 11 draconic Bloodline sorcerer gains Fly
@@kamilrichert8446level 11 draconic Bloodline sorcerer gains Fly
@@donhughes7339not wings tho :(
You can also just pick any color combo you want during character creation
One "hack" I found with Storm Sorcerer is you can cast a Ritual spell (out of combat, doesn't cost slots, like Jump or Summon Familiar), OR a 1st level at-will spell from an equip, like the ring of Color Spray, and that will trigger your Fly ability, allowing you to fly to places your normal jump can't reach, anytime you want. Make sure to toggle turn mode because the dlt effect goes out pretty quickly.
i noticed this too, and once i did storm sorcerer became my favorite class. since mobility, even out of combat, is so important in this game its not a bad idea to multiclass 1 lvl of storm sorcery into almost any build. especially since it works with spells you get from items too.
Well that's good to hear, since Storm Sorcerer having few changes from 5e [outside of the spells] was pretty dissapointing, as it's easily the worst subclass in the tabletop for Sorcerer.
I use the Helm of Disguise to trigger the 1 Rd Fly whenever I need it. This is great for Act 1 & 2 . If you use the Astral Tadpole from the Emporor to evolve into a Half- Illithid around Act 3, you can access the 3rd row of Illithid powers, which includes Levitate/ Fly at will.
In case anyone missed why constitution proficiency is important, it's because most spells that provide good effects require concentration, and you have to make a constitution saving throw to maintain them every time you're hit. If you don't opt to start with a Sorcerer, Fighter, or Barbarian to get that, it's worth considering picking up the Resilience: Constitution feat for this reason alone.
War Mage also provides a concentration bonus if mot mistaken and is the better of the two choices, no?
@@bmwd4000 You mean "War Caster" (assuming you're playing an English version) and it gives you advantage on concentration, which is a pretty good in most circumstances. However, advantage works out to roughly a +3, depending on what you're rolling for, while Constitution proficiency will give you a +4 by level 9. So War Mage isn't necessarily better than Constitution proficiency. Both, however, would be fantastic. Though if I have a choice between War Mage and Lucky I'd probably go with Lucky because I'd rather choose to reroll a few vital rolls a day than every constitution save.
damn nice info man
Do you still need war caster for saving concentration?
One of the nice things about this game, is that it is very generous in the number of scrolls it provides you. As a result, the Sorc, can use these scrolls to provide themselves with spells that they normally wouldn't have access to. While it's true that scrolls have no conditions, meaning, any class can use the scroll, casting class, IMO, make the best use of them as they usually would be using their turn to cast spells anyways. Martial classes using an action to cast a spell is situational and very powerful when combined with other casters, however, I find that it's usually better to let martial classes do what martial classes do best. Hit stuff.
I honestly always forget to use those scroll in combat xD
But even if we are just talking about outside of combat,
being able to use scrolls for utilities and letting your character focus on dmg is still so valuables.
This is why I multi-classed as a wizard with my sorcerer. Wizard allows you to learn spells from scrolls.
What stat do scrolls use for attack chance and damage?
@@billbaggins1688 Your spellcasting ability. So if you are a soreceror its Cha.
@@billbaggins1688 it uses your caster stat
I haven't started playing the game yet, I need to upgrade my computer. BUT the more I watch your guides, the less I am certain which class I want to play. And that's amazing!
Same boat. Can't decided what to do 😢 Bard or Sorcerer or Paladin lol maybe Druid too idkk
@@NolanB91 my first walkthrough is half-elf draw Sorc wild magic, Idk it feels like main hero to me
Second is going to be bard for sure
Bard is pretty much a cheat code through the game thus far. I imagine Sorcerer would be very similar because of high Charisma. That said, there's not really a wrong answer and you don't have to restart if you don't like the class, just respec shortly into the playthrough.
most noteable spells:
twinned spell haste - the single best spell in the game as long as youre intelligent enough to keep your sorc from losing concentration (dont be a tyr)
counterspell - universally useful and optimizes your (re)action economy, doesnt combine well with wild magic for obvious reasons
twinned spell chain lightning - arguably the best lategame damage spell combo + double damage on wet targets, needs 11 sorc levels
magic missile - every single missile counts as an individual hit, this enables some crazy stuff like forcing enemy casters to roll concentration for every single missile and some crazy item combos as well as stripping specific lategame buffs, does force damage which is resisted by (almost?) nothing in the game, cant miss
cloud of daggers - best concentration spell before level 5
fireball - cant go wrong with the classics but haste should be prioritized for level 3 spellslots (for some reason you cant upcast haste - might get fixed in a patch)
PSA: twinned spell does not work on single target spells with multiple instances like magic missile or scorching ray.
Githyanki draconic sorcerer whose ancestor really liked their mount
Again 10x for the great video. I have found some things that work better for me personally, playing as Dark Urge Drow. I dumped strength as you suggested, but dumped also intelligence. The reason for that is I use the circlet of intelligence as my helm. The 2 extra points I invested in wisdom for the skill checks. In my experience, many dialogue options require high wisdom, especially if you use the tadpole. I also switched constitution and dexterity for higher initiative. I play as a storm sorcerer and my tactics are hit and seek higher elevation with fly.
You’re vids helped me in DOS 2 and now you’re helping me in BG3 patiently waiting for the rogue subclass guide
How are your thumbnail concept artwork always on point and perfect? Give the artist a raise!
The timing of this was absolutely perfect, i was just about to start a sorcerer playthrough and couldn't make up my mind on a subclass. Thanks for the save Fextra!
Chad wild magic I hope
Ooooooh the excitement builds. This means there is a "3 early game builds" video coming... Archfey Warlock may be my first playthrough, but some kind of Sorc is without question going to be second.
Thank you again for these videos. Such good info.
Amazing guide! Thanks for all the BG3 content, I’ve really been enjoying it. Wizard guide next please! 🙌🏻 Can’t seem to find any in depth ones yet
A special note about draconic sorcerers:
Draconic (White) sorcerers get armor of agathys. 5 temporary hit points and 5 cold damage to attackers per level isn't absurdly strong on it's own. However, by level six you could potentially do 20 damage to an enemy that strikes you, and making enemies wet would double that to 40. You can also have resistance to any damage type via items, blade ward cantrip, or just equipment. So assuming the dual wield enemy doesn't hit you for over 15 damage with their first strike you would do 80 damage back to them.
It's proving to be a very interesting way to play the class. I took a level in monk in the current build so that I could double dip with a strength unarmed build. It's fun to smack the piss out of enemies knowing if they hit you they are just going to die. Also, it plays very well with a storm cleric build since they want to electrocute wet enemies.
Plus the electrical effect in the wet area around you looks so cool !
This wet area works for cold spells too..its possible to freeze enemies solid for a turn like Subzero. !
Ice Knife just got cooler !
Dude seriously thank you for these tid bits of data on class and perk combo ideas.
Just making Shadowhart hit more has made a world of change as does understanding mage users pros and cons instead of “oh he has more spells bro”.

Thanks for this class guide. It's very concise and a great look at different routes to take with this class without having to do too much experimenting in-game. Greatly looking forward to your build guides.
This is what I was waiting for now I can play the game /s (I am stuck in character creation but I decided I wanna play Sorcerer first)
im gonna give this game another go. think im gonna pick a storm sorceror, thank you for making this guide
18:12 if you multi class to fighter to get action surge, I believe you can get up to 4 spells a turn with some shenanigans. Cast haste on yourself, use Quickened Spell to cast a spell with a bonus action, cast another spell with the extra action from haste, then Action Surge and cast another one.
cant you drink potion of speed for another action?
take 1 level in wizard and find the intelligence circlet that pushes your INT to 17 and now you can learn 4 new spells from any scroll you find, as long as your sorc is level 11 you can also learn level 6 spells from scrolls and also use metamagic with them, so now you got 11 sorc 1 wizard and you got a whole arsenal of destruction to use.
But wouldn't the spells you learn from scrolls roll off your int rather than your charisma since it's a wizard feature?
@@adamdarling2315 thats why you need the intelligence circlet so your INT is 17, means you can use all spells - either use Cha or INT, WITH metamagic.
I’m trying this right away!
It does roll off your INT but you already got 17 from the circlet that you get very early in Act 1 and if you also get a weapon with +INT later on and some buffs (like the one in the sharran shrine, if you know where that is), you could get to 20 INT and 20 CHA, so now you're a sorcerer with metamagic, casting wizard spells. At 19 INT you get one more spell slot so that's 5 wiz spells + metamagic, for only 1 level in wizard, it's completely ridiculous.
I recommend multiclassing into Wiz, as soon as you get that circlet, then just dump all other levels into sorc.
It gets very OP, very fast.
I considered this for extra spells, but thought I'd only get maybe 2. This sounds way better than I thought it would be lol
I'm having a blast with Wizard/Sorcerer Multiclass. Wizard first and then Sorcerer. Spell slots can be used for Wizard spells with INT, and you can learn any number of spells with the Wizard learning ability. The spells you get with Sorcerer are mostly for utility (misty step, etc) and the damage comes from anything learned from a scroll. Combine that Metamagic, and Evocation school and you have a nuke coming in. Probably not optimal but it's fun for me.
It's the opposite actually. The sorcerer class is for high damage and the wizard class is for high utility. If you multi-class as a sorcerer/wizard make sure you get that crown in Act 1 that raises your intelligence to 17 and dump all your other points into charisma!
Storm sorcerer can use their flight skill without limit out of combat, when you use the collector edition helmet to change your appearance. It counts as spell and triggers your bonus action. The helm itself has no limitations. Makes it easy to move around. Using a regular fly spell is just easier to use.
Also worth noting that you get that helmet when you buy the digital deluxe version of the game as well
Sounds like a bug
@@damagecase14 there are several skills which can be used out of combat with no limit. Not all need a short/long rest. E.g. the teleport boots, which teleport only your character without clothes. This would be useless in combat.
Literally went to search for this build from you. And didn't see it, then you posted this. Just downloading the game and this is the character I wanted to play. Thanks!

@@rantalmore no its good bc it has that single round, insane damage and then spends the rest of the fight contributing spellcaster aoe damage and good utility. you can run higher damage team comps that focus on finishing fights faster (I have Wyll, Karlach, and Astarion)
Love your guides man. The wiki you developed is a god send. Do you have a play-through for yourself?
Nice that this game truly offers a non-cookie cutter build choices. I don't think I've played a game w/ this much build diversity.
Well, it is based off of D&D where you do face choice overload, at least until you get used to it 😛
There's arguably even more to consider in D&D since you can go up to level 20 (depending on the campaign and the DM) and if you use homebrew stuff or extra rulebooks then you can add a lot of stuff more.
That being said, the diversity in BG3 is great
Well done.
I love you man.
Not any spells can be upcasted FOR increased damage or number of targets. Some spells dont increase anything, you just use the upcast when you dont have any more slots of their level.
I would be interested to hear how you would rank the draconic bloodline options, is there an equal number of spells for each type of magic or is it leaning towards a few elements. Just from seeing videos it seems like acid and poison might be the two that lack the most.
What I realized not too long ago, that I enjoy sorcerer way more as a support, than a dmg dealer. I'm at lvl9 currently and my favorites are blind and confusion or hold monster or any of these nasty crowd control spells. Simply use them with heightened spell metamagic and then go to town with my barbarian dmg dealer (with the great weapon master feat). Mama K approves :D
I would call that control instead of support. Support is when you buff your party, like with haste, bless, or stone skin for example.🤓
That's a crowd control sorcerer, not a support sorcerer. If you enjoy crowd control more than damage, then I HIGHLY recommend that you respec into the wizard class. It gets far greater access to crowd control spells.
*Will definitely multiclass.* Still hesitant between a Wizard/Fighter (potential to use three spells per turn is tempting) or a Wizard/Warlock (for the Eldritch blast, among others).
If you choose a dragonborn of say copper or black sub race for acid and acid resistance, you can choose draconic bloodline of a different heritage like green for poison to double it up! Double dragon!
So this works? You can get double resists from both?
I've found myself not using quickened pell anywhere as much as i thought i would mostly because it burns through resources and I like to see how far I can stretch resources.
Strongly recommend your first 5 levels are all sorcerer because getting level 3 spells (haste and fireball) are game changing.
Draconic mastery: fire only affects the first bolt of scorching ray
Depending on group makeup, Hastening two Melee characters in battle and then cantriping on the sidelines is broken. The durability of a two tank/psudo-tanks run has greatly been under apprciated in my run thus far.
Quickened is perhaps the one metamagic spell that is making it worth playing a sorc over a wizard. In difficult fights having two spell attack can make the difference between victory and defeat. If you are on cruise mode and nothing really challenge you then it's better to conserve, sure.
I used twin spell in the beginning, but closer to end its only quickened spell. It basically lets you cast two lvl6 spells per turn if you use arcane battery or of you have the staff from the magic tower.
Only the first one, huh? Pity, I imagined silver dragon ancestry would be bonkers with Cone of Cold... actually since it's an AoE it still might be?
something i've noticed is that heart of the storm is triggered by shocking grasp even though it's a cantrip. stormchads can't stop winning
Honestly, I actually find that going like 3 levels of Sorcerer and then the rest in Wizard works very well. You get a few metamagic options, can create spell slots, can restore spell slots (Arcane Recovery) which further allows you to fuel sorcery points, and access to a few very nice perks that help wizard immensely.
And you don't even lose access to the highest level spells due to wizards being able to learn spells from scrolls of any spell level they have spell slots for, NOT for spell levels that they could normally cast at that level. Thus, a 9th level wizard/3rd level sorcerer can still learn 6th level spells because he has access to 6th level spell slots! I don't know if that's intentional (Larian did say they wanted to allow for better caster multiclassing) or a bug that will be patched, but as of right now there is very few downsides and many upsides to this multiclass.
And it's not even MAD since you can still dump your Charisma (unlike Wizard, Charisma has no effect on the number of spells you have access to as Sorcerer) and just take Sorcerer spells that don't require Charisma to be effective; Magic Missile, Mage Armor, Shield, Sleep, False Life etc.
BOOOOYAAAAAAY!!! FINALY !!!!!!
hey Fex, could you perhaps cover Necromancer in a build guide?
Would i be missing much from a sorc if i'd go 6Sorc + 2Fighter (for action surge) + 1 wizz (to learn spells from scrolls) + 3 warlock for the pact? I'm guessing the first downside is missing 2 feats. alternatively ditch wizz for lvl 4 lock for the extra feat.
Is there a breakdown with what each class gains at each level?
Sorry for bad English. Insteed of taking 1 lvl figher you can got 1 lvl war domain cleric. You can take it second and still have heavy armor. Also with 16 dex you can take rapier and use additional attacks. Its really good in early lvles, when you dont want spend spell slots and still deal a good damage. Also, you will got sanctuary and will not miss any spellslot in progression. In late its doesn't matter, fighter or cleric, but in early it benefits so well
Planning a less serious playthrough with 4 Wild Magic sorcerers. One pure Sorcerer, and the others mixed with Bard, Paladin and Warlock respectively. The chaos will be intense
If I multiclass draconian with fighter, do I add armor bonus or one cancels the other?
Which grants the more lightning damage, Storm sorceres or Draconic Blue/bronze Dragon?
Has anyone tried / can give feedback on the idea of a 11 level dragon sorcerer with 1 pevel of warlock for the EB? Does EB fully scale with character level? Or just number of beams?

At level 11, draconic sorcerers get to fly around for just movement, wild magic sorcerers twist fate, and storm sorcerers deal a bit of lightning damage when they're hit?
For storm sorcerer: When you get to level six and already know the spells the class gives you, are you given the option in the level up screen to change them or do you have to swap them out in level 5?
You can just respect from Level 6 and pick different spells then. Or you can change one by one each level..

Actor is fantastic if you start with 17 cha, two cha skills with expertise is amazing in the dialogues. It's two skills confirmed to pass more or less.
Story sorcery is my favorite sorcerer subclass
Instead of summoning a storm, you summon a wizened old man who tells such boring stories that he casts an aoe sleeping spells to anyone within earshot for the duration of the spell.

Hahahaha 😂 I wouldn't actually put it past Larian to do something like that
It’s very much like the STORMLORD Druid subclass from 3.5e
@@jakekosler2153Deckard cain from hero's of the storm ultimate lol
2 levels of Paladin and 10 levels of Sorcerer!! Works SURPRISINGLY well, you get your Smites, some minor healing, etc, and then can maximize on the Sorcery side with level 5 spells.
Based on the wording of tempestuous magic being almost if not identical To dnd 5e, I’d be curious to see if it works in synergy with warlock spells of 1st level that you cast at will with the invocations that allow you to do so. (False life from fiendish vigor) in the TTRPG it’s worded the same so RulesAsWritten (RAW) you don’t have to use a slot to trigger it, only cast a spell of 1st level or higher. Let me know if any testing on this has been done to confirm or squash this idea.
Ps- I have an “eldritch storm blade” build that would be a spell blade that can get the temp HP and then reposition without opportunity attacks and because hexblade is instead pact of the blade in Baldur’s gate 3 this build if it works would be even more affective in BG3 than in DND
So, i'm willing to bet that Sorcerers will be getting their Aberrant Mind subclass in a future update
my reason is that the Aberrant Mind subclass has a bunch of pre-written options on how you got your power and one of them reads as follows: "You were implanted with a mind flayer tadpole, but the ceremorphosis never completed. And now its psionic power is yours" sound familiar? that's basically the opening plot of the game, how you and several others get infected with tadpoles.
meaning you can rp that your character was a normal [Race of Your Choice] until the events that lead up to your capture
Does twinned-spell works with AOE like Cloud of Blades?
War caster is good. Especially for blue or bronze dragon bloodline.
You can take 11 lvl Sorcerer and 1 lvl Wizard so that you can learn all the scroles up to lvl 4
How do you multi class? I play on ps5 and when I level up I don’t see any option to put points into another class ?
would suggestiom on creation maybe make intel down to 8 or so because helmet from enlightened orge will take you to 17 if needed and the can boost other stats latter with ability increase.
Hi guys. Where i can find some new robes in game. Are there any for a wizard? Thanks for help
I'd recommend Draconic Sorcerer over Storm Sorcerer if you're multiclassing with Tempest Cleric. At lvl 6 Sorcerer you can add your charisma modifier to any lightning damage spell. So in effect this will do more damage than storm sorcerer. Also, 14 con is fine. That's the standard in tabletop. Tiefling is also a good choice for Sorcerer because they get extra spells that use charisma as their spellcasting ability.
I agree, except that you would want to stick with storm sorcery until at least level six, and then switch over to Draconic Sorcerer, as that extra damage you mentioned doesn’t become available until then. Even then, storm sorcery might be better, as the aoe from storm sorcery being cast could end up being just as useful for causing damage (depending on how many enemies are around you), plus you get the extra spells like call lightening
Would a level 1 fighter be ok as a second class option for a sorcerer in order to still have access to fly?
So I am currently level 4 dragonborn (blue) sorcerer. I am bit bored by the poor amount of spells that I have yet. Since I found that diadem that gives 17 Int I wonder if a sorcerer/wizard is viable. Has anybody made some experience with this yet ?
never have i seen fextralife take a fat L not mentioning sorcerer wizard multiclass with headband of intellect for +4 more spells throughout the whole game that can be super helpful wizard only spells such as animate dead, conjure elementals and even 6th level spells along side the one you learn at lvl 11 sorc granted you find the scrolls and learn them to your spellbook
Would multi classing my necromancy wizard with sorcerer be a good pairing?
This guide is missing two important things: Best spells for the context of BG3 and relevant items found in game.
Why shy away from Spell sniper feat ? Until they fix it, there is a mod that fixes cantrips not being inclued in 19-20 crit range

Dumb question, but does the fire resistance gained from the tiefling race stack with the fire resistance gained from draconic bloodline? Like could you make an almost fire immune character ?
[DamageType] Resistance is a binary thing in the game's mechanics -- getting it twice just means if you lose one of them you keep the other, but it doesn't stack for immunity, or even 1/4 damage.
I think the dragonborn looks awesome so what would your recommendation be for the best class to play as dragonborn???
I'd say this is missing one little thing, and really many of the guide miss this. Is that all multiclasses have a level 4 break point for bonus feat. It's a small destination, but the extra feat isn't nothing.
Draconic Sorcerer focus on MM get that + Charisma damage modifier at level 6 + a few easy to get items in act 1 you can be doing 20 damage per missile if you upscale to level 3 missile you can take out bosses with 2 level 1 spells.
Does cantrip damage increase with class level or character level?
