- Over the past several years, solo jazz guitarist Martin Taylor, has basically become one of the gang here at KNKX. He's such good company and such a brilliant guitarist that we invite him into our studios for a session almost every time he comes to town.
See Martin's latest performance in our studios now: th-cam.com/video/DyY462799Xw/w-d-xo.html
With a name like Martin Taylor you know this guy is going to know his way around a guitar.
matt4c4 And his middle name is Gibson!
+matt4c4 It was pre-destined!

pablpfanque no, it’s Danelectro.
Right? Lol
I'm one of Martins online students. He is a wonderful and gracious individual as well as an absolutely superb artist. He has no equal.
One of the best fingerstyle jazz guitarists on the planet.
first time in my life I've ever heard a bass solo and a changing rhythm guitar being played with a single hand, fucking amazing
+Ibrar Mohammad

@@rubenlesuma5700 All kinds
Having read some of these comments, it’s important to understand this piece in context.
This is a showpiece
It’s a showpiece…he’s showing off his walking bass chops whilst playing/improvising over the top…at breakneck speed
He’s not going for maximum musical content, just fireworks 💥
I’ve seen Martin live and believe me, he can swing with the best of them!
Unbelievable that anyone could give a 'thumbs down' to such a performance! MT is a master of the art and craft of guitar
An outrageously good and musical guitarist, and a really nice down to earth guy. I've only seen him live once, but it was one of the best jazz gigs I have ever had the pleasure to attend. Hope he comes to Norway in the not too distant future. Then again, if he has a gig in Glasgow, Scotland I will need to hop over and see him with my father, for sure!
This man is an absolute genius, the Yoda of Guitar!
After seeing this I think Martin is the world's best guitarist! Wow!
Love his playing. Loooove his guitar !
❤❤saw him live in Wellington, New Zealand, amazing
Damn, leave some for the rest of us!🤯🤯🤯
Just Great. Martin is one of a kind
different world !! genius
such a beautiful guitar
As a pianist myself I've always thought his playing is related to solo piano in approach, and here he confirms it. I guess this is why I like it so much. Must take a genius though to do this.
p1anosteve He and Tommy Emmanuel are the two big ones with a style akin to piano
Oh come on there are hundreds of pianistically oriented guitarist, Jim hall, Ben monder, Jeffrey burr, Kevin Malone…….
7yrs ago! I remember seeing him live in NZ
My thumb is cramping just watching this!
WOW !!!!!!!!!!!! UNBELIEVABLE !!!!!!!
Martin one of the best jazz guitarist in the world saw him with Tony emmanuel what a show that was both joking and having fun together playing was amazing
I feel grateful for all these saturday nights (ok these mon, tues, wed, etc.) spent rehearsing at home so I can enjoy these 5 minutes. The sad thing is that my brain likes Martin Taylor, but my heart loves Bill Frisell. You know what I mean...
mind blowing!
Amazing....
Thanks for watching!
Great Master!!!
Loved the guitar
This is the best thing i have heard in my hole life :D
Absolutely breathtaking! No words....
Lovely Martin...truely one of the greats, .......so many wonderful guitarists sound like each other, ....like Django, and Wes, Martin just sounds like himself. great.......Ade H.
and Joe Pass.
The guitar is not made for playing like this. A normal human being can't do this. Only an exceptional master.
Unglaublich! Bravo!
Nailed it👍
MAESTRO!!!!!! great Playing.....
What he says about Art Tatum is the same thing I say about him; every time I hear him I laugh because of the absurd of his mastery on the guitar
Martin is totally un-believable good lord!
BRAVO!!
A Master at work
Really interesting!!
Yup 🔥
Fantastic!
Wow! Never seen anything like this.
Martin that's outstanding :)
If there is a Yoda of Guitar playing then this man surely must be it!
Master of the guitar he is !!!
wow, a master
I purchased Martin's Stepping Stones album shortly after it was released in 2000. I remember hearing this song for the first time and erupting in laughter. It seemed ridiculous and impossible that someone could play this. I saw him perform a few years later and witnessed first hand that it is possible but still ridiculous. I still laugh every time I hear it.
Genius!
That top line definition is unreal
really impressive
Superb player
Great Guitarist !
Grandissimo...!!
SUPER !!!!
This man has two brains!!
Genius! But seriously who would want to listen to this. But I do love Mr Taylor.
I know he said his main influences were pianists but I have a sneaky feeling he's a closet bassist!
His dad was a bassist.
haha yeah i started to get that impression as well
Madness
Days will be sunny..............................
How does his brain process something like that so quick?? Its fucken insane
Obviously he couldn't play that straight off. A hell of a lot of thought and work went into working out the melody and bass lines. He'll have picked up the "tools" over the years, to allow him the facility to do it. He'd have started off playing it slowly, and then it's hard practice to perfect it and up to speed.
I've always wanted a beauty guitar 😉
Wow
I lost it after. 5 seconds !
Il. The best. Guitarista. migliore chitarrista del mondo do mindo
brilliant
Amazing! One guitar no looping🤣he starts going crazy lol
oh, c'mon! what a master..
God!
Great musica
fantastic! here He using flatwounds?
I also what to know that!
I don't think so, I got a new Peerless Martin Taylor Maestro a few years ago and assuming they strung it with what he uses, I believe they were D'Addario XL .011-.050 nickel/steel round wounds. At least that's what I replaced them with & it felt the same. I want to try some more beef on the bottom, there are Slinkies .011-.054 I have that I want to try on it next.
Great sounding & playing ax, needed nothing out of the box.
Well might he smile at the end of that. Frightening ability and a nice man too - just not fair.
The only thing more beautiful than his playing is that guitar.
Unbelievable
Question guys, what do you specifically call this type of playing? I only know it's Jazz. Thanks in advance.
It's quite unique i guess, because of the approach he talks about at the beginning of the video.
But you could find some of this in Pat Methenty's solo performances with accoustic guitar.
Look for Pat Metheny live in Zwitzerland : D
He's imitating stride piano, like Fats Waller for example.
@@manualvarado2212 Pat Metheny has praised Martin Taylor to the nth degree. Pat is an excellent composer and guitarist. He knows the guitar and a quality musician when he hears one.
how many ✋ does this man has
What's this guitar model/brand please ?
I'm looking for the same answer.
What's the name of the "master" that Mr. Taylor names at the beginning of the video? I can't understand the last name, i just know he says George.
Awesome!
ManuAlvarado22 George Van Eps
Thank you so much!
Martin Taylor? What’s his middle name? Gibson?
He's playing traps you in Nostalgia
If you are musicalley inclined, you don't want to miss this turn.
For those of you who say it doesn't swing 1. why does it have to? Are you trying to dance to it. You should use a big band or combo or something this is virtuoso guitar playing. 2. He used to be Stephan Grappelli's guitarist the guy who along with Django invented swing.
Grapelli and Django invented swing? Why are you commenting authoritatively on a jazz on TH-cam when you don't know anything about jazz?
well, swing and gypsy both spell with a 'g' ... that's easy to mix up :-)
LOL They don't invented swing. Please don't be ridiculous...
Swing with a guitar (?) It could be what he meant
I thought this was a guitar made by both Taylor and martin !!
ขอบคุณเดอะทอย ที่ทำให้ผมมาฟังคุณ
Hi I'm Fender Gibson.
Play this tune on a Strandberg Boden 7 thru some delay and Reverb, you got some great prog metal
very good
To think with all of that, he would have an extra finger resting on the guitar.
Anybody want to transcribe this ???
What a thumb!
im too high for this
is he british?
He doesn't know how huge he is...those lines could came out only from genius mind..
Wish he used a seven string on this one, those bass notes would've been clearer
I think they give the sound its own quirk.
OK...that's it...guitar for sale...:)
This should encourage you to play more, lol
#fact
I ain't got decaf !
No comments ... no Need.
Not bad, but can he play Crazy Train 🤪
close your guys its two guys
Who are the 31 subhumans who gave this a Thumbs Down?
Ok, this man is insane. But I have to believe every single riff is just him practicing... On stage!
This being said, it's awesome chord techniques, tons of counter point. It just seems extremely repetitive and gets a little out of whack a few times.
Randall Dollahon from Miami U. was similar. Genius thought process. Any melody, multiple choruses of amazing chord melodies. I
Saw him do Oh Danny Boy once and he played about 25 choruses sweet as can be, always fresh ideas. Bebop tempos of 200 plus are a bit silly in any context. 💊
Quite simply, impossible !
gave up waiting
